"Sea Breeze," ::Pietro repeated the name for her, gratified that she enjoyed it. She should at least enjoy some aspect of being at this bar, as she had come alone. Her question reminded him that she had never drank with him before, and he nodded slightly.:: "I can't feel it."

"Okay," Emily accepted his explanation, looking at him with curiosity. "An aspect of your speed, or some other power?" she sipped her cocktail.

::Pietro took another sip from his vodka, before setting it down. It was always the speed; that and his strength were his powers. Although it manifested itself in different ways, it always came back to his speed.:: "My metabolism breaks down the alcohol before it accumulates."

"Oh," Emily said. "Well, then that's one less thing for you to worry about... My brain reacts to alcohol even before I realize I've swallowed it," she grinned as if it was a good joke.

::Pietro could have responded with a comment about how getting drunk was useful and there were times when he resented his inability to do something so basic. But he could see how nervous she was, and she tried to mask it with humor, like Hank did. And as with Hank, he doubted that her jokes hit their mark.:: "Perhaps some controlled drinking will help build your tolerance."

"Controlled drinking?" Emily asked. "What do you mean?"

::One of the many aspects of life in Europe was the tendency to be more laid back and intelligent about alcohol. It wasn't a poison that suddenly became acceptable at twenty-one; it was a beverage you shared with friends and family. Tolerance was built more easily that way.:: "Drinking at home with your parents, or somewhere safe where no one could take advantage of you."

He seemed to be genuinely wishing to help her find a solution for that. Emily studied Pietro's face for a second, considering whether she should tell him and probably risk ruining her good girl image. "Actually," she said finally, becoming serious, "the last time I had alcohol was at a family dinner. I ended up attempting to dance striptease on the dinner table." She took a small drink. "My family is very understanding... but as much as I feel safe around them, I wouldn't want them - or anybody, for that matter - to see me that way. Maybe someday I'll find someone in whose faith in me I'll trust completely, even after I lose myself like that... but haven't found such a friend so far."

::One of Pietro's silver eyebrows rose, but he otherwise kept his expression sympathetic. It was a pity she had that sort of experience at the family table. Not that he hadn't had his share of terrible dinner memories, the first night the school had opened stuck out in his mind. Or the day of his and Wanda's thirteenth birthday.
If she needed someone to supervise her, he could offer his services. He felt as though her were adopting her under his wing as it was, and she needed someone who could defend her should something happen, or give her wisdom.:: "If you would ever like to try it with me..."

Emily bit her lip for a second, considering. She imagined herself going alcohol-nuts in his presence. Probably doing something she would very much regret afterwards. Even if he didn't mind anything she'd do or say when drunk, he'd still see her being something that wasn't really her... Emily got completely confused by her own thoughts and shook her head. "I appreciate that," she said. "But... it's not really worth it. Maybe I'll just take the raincheck."

::Pietro nodded slightly in response, taking another sip from his vodka. He could hardly fault her for the reluctance to drink with him. She was shy, she had a bad experience, and he knew he came off as far more intimidating than he intended.:: "Should you change your mind."

Emily nodded a few times. "I guess I will... eventually." She swallowed and decided to change the subject - that is, to do something she was extremely bad at. "Can I ask something about your mutation?" She had already had some bad experience asking people about that and had learned to at least ask for permission before asking.

::Pietro nodded, lowering his eyebrow. He preferred to speak of his mutation than other aspects of his life, such as his childhood.:: "Yes."

"Is it just a physical quality, or it affects your perception of time as well?" Emily asked. At first she had thought that it was only the speed of movement, but when Pietro mentioned his metabolism, she got curious whether it comprised some other aspects as well.

::The answer to that was "both," as Pietro had learned. His body worked at a faster pace than the world around him, throwing off his perceptions as well as his metabolism, and giving him the ability to think faster, speak faster, run faster, and react faster. It was not something that could be turned off, only slowed with immense concentration and practice.:: "Time moves slowly."
