[...from Room 384]
Strolling out the door of the Hilton, Nadia Davich, as she was now known, headed down the street to look for a decent cafe to grab a cup of caffeine fuel. In her experience, it was the little cafes that served the best coffee, not those giant chains with shops on every corner. She felt that the more shops they opened, the more they lost focus on what was important: the coffee.
Just a few blocks down, she found a place that looked promising. A quaint little place with a few table and chairs set outside in the sunshine. She smiled; it would be good to sit outside for a few minutes, instead of inside the cafe with all the business people chattering away on their electronic devices.
Luckily, she found an empty table outside on the sidewalk and, after going in briefly to order her cup of black coffee, she settled down. Nadia forego reading the paper left on the table from the previous customer, instead content to survey the scene around her: cars driving by, hundreds of people rushing down the street on foot. A dozen different sounds and smells. Ah, this was the life. She had missed New York.

Five minutes later she had her coffee in hand and took a liberal sip of it, closing her eyes as she did so. Aah, that was the stuff. Much better than anything from one of the national chains. Nadia savored the 'miracle elixir' for a while longer, enjoying the sun on her face and the hustle and bustle of traffic.
Feeling quite alert and awake now that she had coffee streaming through her veins, Nadia could now properly think about what she had on her agenda for that day. First and foremost, she needed to start looking for a warehouse or other such building that see could lease cheap and start settling up her headquarters in. Something where all the young mutants could come after school or late at night or whenever necessary to get away from their lives for a little while.
For now, though, she was just content to enjoy her coffee, for a few minutes longer.

Nadia finished up her coffee and slide out of her seat. Enough was enough. It was time to get some work done. Knowing she would need some more fuel later, she went for a refill of coffee in a to-go cup. A few moments later she was back on the sidewalk, contemplating whether to hail a taxi or just to walk. A glance up at the sky determined her answer: she'd walk. There was no better way to enjoy the sunshine or find a good place to rent than by walking.
Sipping from her coffee, she headed off down the street with the hundreds of others hurrying about their day in New York City. Nadia wasn't exactly sure where she would be looking, but she had an idea in her head of what she needed to find. She just would walk around until the perfect location jumped out at her.

::Karl was one of those hundreds on the streets of the City. Though peripherally aware of those around them, he was lost in his thoughts. Unfortunately, he could hardly claim complete anonymity with his physical mutations - his green skin and red eyes caused him to stand apart from any crowd.::

She had gone quite a few blocks, realizing belatedly that the part of town she was entering was very unlikely to house the type of location that would serve her purposes. Or her budget. Nadia chided herself inwardly for being too long gone from the city that she had forgotten its layout.
Wanting to correct her mistake, she quickly turned right to head around a corner, hoping to head to a better locale. Halfway through the sparse crowd, however, she ran into a brick wall. Rather, a person, she saw, after she looked up to see how she could have taken the corner so sharply as to hit the building. It was then Nadia saw that her coffee was no longer in her hand and lay pouring on the street. But the biggest surprise she had was that the man in front of her looked... strange.
"I'm sorry..." She stammered, unusually tongue-tied at the moment because of her odd clumsiness. "I wasn't watching where I was going."

::Karl supposed he should consider himself lucky in that only a little bit of coffee had landed on his coat. The rest hand hit the sidewalk, but he hadn't been burned. He stepped back instinctively, as one was prone to do after having someone - smaller perhaps but still solid - walk into them. At least she had apologized.:: "I'm sure, since I tend to be hard to miss."

Nadia broke into a smile then, his admission of his strange appearance somehow putting her more at ease. Not completely at ease but almost there. "I hope you understand that I am normally not this clumsy," her slight trailing embarrassment of the incident bringing out her accent a bit more strongly than usual.
She bent over then, picking up her fallen coffee cup and walking a few steps to toss it away, mourning the loss of a good brew. Turning back to the green stranger she had ran into, she held out her hand. "I think the least I can do for the inconvenience is introduce myself. I'm Nadia."

::Karl took her hand and shook it; she was an attractive enough young woman, and evidently embarrassed about the whole affair.:: "I'm Karl."

"Nice to meet you," she smiled again. Nadia wasn't sure if the man in front of her was usually quiet, or was in a hurry, or even maybe just didn't like having attention on him. For whatever reason, she was curious as to why he was so quiet. "I hope I haven't made you late for anything?"

::Karl took his hand back when the handshake ended and slipped it back into his coat pocket. To her question, he shook his head; he had nowhere in particular to be at this late hour: that was the life of an unemployed widower.:: "No, I'm not late for anything, aside from crossing the street."

She nodded a bit. "Good." Nadia looked around herself to make sure she wasn't missing anything, and finding she wasn't, she turned back to Karl. "I won't keep you, then," she added with a smile, taking a step to walk around him.

::Karl was feeling a bit tired from the day, and because it had been some time since he had last satisfied several needs; he might want her around later, or at the least take company for a bit. Though he made no attempt to keep her, he said,:: "This might be forward, but do you want to get a cup of coffee, since your last one ended up between my coat and the sidewalk?"

At his question, Nadia stopped in her tracks and looked at the strange greenish man. She considered his offer very briefly. Not only did she want more coffee, but the morning was advancing farther than she thought. All her time searching the streets had made her hungry.
A bright smile flashed across her features. "That would be wonderful. I think I could use some brunch or a light lunch as well."

::That would suit Karl fine; he could sit, and people tended to be more pleasant on a full stomach.:: "I could eat."

"Great!" Nadia turned around to survey their surroundings, looking for a small place to grab a bite to eat and some much-needed coffee. Nothing resembling a restaurant seemed to be in the general vicinity of the corner they were standing on. She looked back at Karl. "Do you know of anywhere? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this area," smiling wryly.
