::Karl was familiar with the layout of the City, although not a resident. Most of his meals had been taken at home, once he and Tanya had begun living together, and usually he ate in town with her passing. However, he could find somewhere to eat.:: "I think there's a diner a couple of blocks from here."

Nadia nodded to Karl with a smile, after securing her purse more firmly under her arm."That sounds great. Lead the way."

::It was hardly a leading situation, as Karl was only reasonably certain of the diner's existence. However, he turned and began walking in its general direction, slow enough that she would be able to keep pace.::

She easily kept pace with him as they walked, content to keep quiet and enjoy the sunshine beating down on them along with the sights and sounds of a busy metropolis. Nadia knew a lot of people preferred the quiet, but she actually felt strange if she didn't hear honking cars and the like all the time.
Gathering that the man walking beside her might prefer conversation, she decided to speak up. "So are you from New York?"

::They moved through the throng of people who gave them a bit of a wide berth when they noticed Karl's skin tone, but he was used to it. Walking down the block, they passed a jewelry store offering to buy gold for market value but nothing selling food just yet.:: "No, but I'm from the tri-state area."

She nodded. Nadia had felt that he had an air about him, just something inherent, that she had thought she was from this general area of the city. Whether it was a power she hadn't yet discovered or just something she had gotten good at with all the people and cultures and countries she had been to, she didn't know, but she would put her money on the latter bet.
"I'm not, if you couldn't tell," smiling at him a moment before looking at head to watch where she was going. "My accent is a bit of a giveaway sometimes." Nadia wasn't sure why, but this man was easy to talk to, and she found herself divulging information effortlessly, just like her dinner the night before with Odin.

::Karl had noticed her accent; it was too strong for him not to have noticed, but he wasn't generally inclined to make such comments. Particularly not with strangers. However, she appeared to want conversation, and he could oblige.:: "Your accent is a bit of a tell. How long have you been in the country?"

Nadia paused a moment to think back, trying not to remember things from her past spent in the Urkraine and later in Russia. Though better than her home country because she had had friends there, things hadn't been much better in Russia. "I first came here to America a few years ago," she finally said. "Five, six years, maybe seven. I lose track of time sometimes." She smiled at him.

::Karl nodded while he listened, because it was professional habit.:: "And how long ago was the most recent trip? Unless you mean first for the extended stay."

"My first. After I came here, I've never been back home." Mostly Nadia knew it was because she couldn't go back to her family, didn't have a true home back in the Ukraine, but also it was because she knew she was needed here. Her organization was now her home.
She shrugged. "I have no desire to return."

"Your prerogative," ::Karl said with a nod. He had traveled more than enough in his childhood that even when married and happy, leaving the country hadn't been a priority. And going to Russia or Russian territories had never been on his list.::

She feel quiet again, trying to think of a way to extend the conversation further because her companion seemed content to just ask questions or respond quickly. It was hard for Nadia to feel companionable to this man, even though she was speaking about things more candidly than usual.
The silence led her gaze to flutter around, and she spotted a place that looked promising from some brunch or early lunch. She pointed it out to Karl, a small cafe across the street. "Do you like Italian?"

"Yes," ::Karl had a fondness for Italian food, and for French, although the former was more abundant. He followed the motion of her finger to the cafe, one he had never visited before and nodded with approval.:: "Let's try it; it's hard to have bad Italian food in Manhattan."

"Agreed," she smiled. Nadia waited for traffic to clear a bit for a few moments before hurrying across the street, not bothering to walk down to the corner and wait for the pedestrian walk. She was gradually slipping back into the lifestyle of a New Yorker; such a move was nigh impossible to do in L.A. or anywhere in California, really.

::Karl followed suit with the jaywalking, as it wasn't an offense anyone would notice, even with his appearance. When they reached the opposite crosswalk, he slowed his pace. For the sake of conversation, he asked,:: "Which do you prefer: Chinese or Italian?"
