With a smile, "Thank you for the recommendation. I'll be sure to check around there." If she could find somewhere near those she hoped to cater to, Nadia thought they might be more willing to stop by. However, there was always the problem of any students from Xavier's who were looking for an out, but she would cross that bridge when she came to it.
A thought came to her after a couple more bites of her salad. "Is that where you live? Brooklyn?"

::Karl shook his head in response to the question; he'd never lived in Brooklyn. Even when he'd had the luxury of living in New York, it hadn't been in Brooklyn. He'd lived in New Jersey, and now lived in Connecticut, at least for the duration of his suspension. He made a vague gesture to convey "up," and replied,:: "No, I live in Connecticut."

Her eyebrows raised a little bit, though she hoped the rest of her face didn't show too much surprise. Of the little she knew about the state, this man sitting in front of her didn't seem the type to live in that type of... area. "Oh, that's nice," was the only thing she could say in response.

::Karl saw her eyebrow lift in what he assumed was surprise. It was warranted, considering the reputation that Connecticut had for being...homogeneous and stifling. He remarked lightly,:: "I know I don't look like I fit into a place like that."

She smiled in amusement. "Was I that obvious?" Nadia paused a moment before adding, "I'm sure it's a fine place."

"It's a common thought," ::Karl assured her, and it was. He had the same conception of Connecticut as any outsider, despite currently residing there.:: "For the most part, all of the stereotypes are true, but I have good neighbors."

Nadia sipped from her coffee before turning her attention back to her salad. "Yes, I'm sure they're quiet and well-behaved." She turned to smile at him quickly before taking a bite.

::This topic served to break Karl's apathy a bit, as he had strong opinions on his neighbors, most of which wasn't particularly flattering. He'd moved to Connecticut because it was quiet, far from home, he could afford it, and he expected to be left alone. All were true, but that did nothing to change the general population.:: "That's one way to put it. I prefer 'Stepfordized.'"

At his words, her brow scrunched in confusion. Having been in the U.S. for a few years now, she felt she was fairly versed in American slang, but this was one she hadn't come across before. Nadia could assume a meaning for this unknown word, but felt it was better to just ask. "I'm sorry, 'stepfordized'?"

::Karl noticed the confusion in her expression before she asked for clarification. Between the original book and movie, and then the remake, he had made the assumption that everyone in America was familiar with the concept. And she had been in the country long enough. Apparently, he had been mistaken in that assumption, and he corrected himself,:: "Proper. The men and women are very proper, and the women are obsessed with how they look to the exclusion of all else."

"Ahh, yes." She nodded. "There were similar people I came across when I was in California." Nadia paused a bit to eat more of her salad before speaking again. "I don't know how those people ever have fun. Being in the presence of those kinds of people makes me feel... claustrophobic."

::Karl finished off his latte and signaled to the waitress that he needed a refill.:: "There's the pressure to conform with them, but it makes it easy enough to live among them if you're immune to their priorities."

"Yes, and it seems you spend enough time away from them, yes?" She smiled. Obviously, since he was in the city now, having brunch with her. Nadia was sure that if she had to live somewhere like that, she would be spending all her waking hours in the city.

::Karl had come in for an appointment, although that had given way to a free rest of the day, and he certainly was in no rush to return to Connecticut. His neighborhood was quiet, which was perfect for brooding, but poor for distraction.:: "Time enough away. It's hard not to appreciate Manhattan."

A nod. "Yes." For a while she turned her attention to her salad, finishing up the last few bites before looking at her companion again. With her coffee cup in her hand, she said, "So tell me a bit more about yourself."
