Shade mentally took on on his idea of disguising their ´mission´ as a vacation. She noticed his body language was opening up to her a little bit and decided to follow the hint for now. After all, he was looking extremely handsome in his suit. Even Shade the agent would not have remained completely cool.
"Quite a pleasant change, yes." she said her eyebrow raising just a little. The ´tape´ kept her from saying anything obviously ambiguous or directly flirtatious, so she had to keep things with well dosed body language and words that would be interpreted in line with these. "Always nice to see something else on a vacation." She raised a hand to brush the single lock away a little, her gaze barely noticable taking in Gambit´s appearance with just slightly more interest.

Her hand was playing with her hair lock - played or natural, that was a definite sign of flirt. "What are your plans for your stay in New York City?" he asked, already knowing where he could take that multi-layered conversation.

"I don´t have too many plans yet." Shade said, her hand briefly touching her wine glass. "some business I have to see to but apart from that I think this stay will be what you just said. Vacation. I like to keep these times of the year rather free."

"If dere's any way I can help to make your stay here more enjoyable, just tell me," Gambit said, taking on an enigmatic expression.
The waiter arrived with their order and started placing the dishes on the table.

Shade gave the waiter a smile. The minestrone looked nice indeed but she suppressed a grin and a ´looks yummy´ that she might normally have given Gambit. "I´ll think about it." she said instead with a rather neutral sounding voice, giving him a thoughtful look with half a smirk that compensated for her seeming desinterest. "what would you suggest?"

"Dere are plenty places of interest here, chere," Gambit said. He caught himself thinking that was just like their first date. "Would depend on whether ya prefer somethin' to see or somethin' to do."

Shade nodded a little, before trying her soup which turned out to be really good indeed. "I saw quite a bit of the city already." she said. "and I don´t like the typical tourist crowds too much. So what about the ´do´ rather than the ´see´?" It was none of their typical verbal fencings, it was more of an almost careful watching each other, seeing what one could say without sounding too ambiguous for the ´tape´. It was fun, Shade thought, just as much fun as seeing what Gambit would come up with next.

Had there been anybody actually listening to their conversation right now, Gambit thought, they'd have been just as interested in his answer as Shade. He had to choose an answer that would be relevant to her question yet remain vague for the possible eavesdroppers. He considered his options. What would a beautiful lady in an evening gown who supposedly was a secret agent and supposedly had a pilot's license be interested in? "It might be easier t' jus' show," he said. "If your vacation has some free day in it, dere'll be time to see what de city has t' offer."

Of course he wouldn´t suggest much right now, Shade figured a little belatedly. Gambit could hardly start listing places; that would give too much detail and rouse suspition with whoever was supposedly listening to their conversation. The way he answered was rather open for interpretation. She nodded with a little smile, one that was a little more sympathetic now. "That´s what a vacation is for isn´t it?" she said, "some free days. I hope to find some."

"Do you already have some plans made for your stay here?" Gambit asked, finally starting on his appetizer.

"Nothing to concrete enough to be called a plan." Shade replied. "I might just explore the city a little." Really, what would a spy do in her freetime, she wondered. What would she do on a free day if she were a secret agent? Probably not just lazily lie in the sun, that would be too ordinary a thing and spies were probably too wary and too alert to just lie back and be lazy all day. "drive down to Hudson maybe."

"An' den what?" Gambit asked. "Rent a boat or simply take a walk on de bank?" he tilted his head sideways in a more casual manner, knowing it couldn't be heard but she would take that as a sign of his disposition - that is, if his natural charms didn't do their work already.

"More like renting a boat." Shade said, getting a sudden idea. They had talked about tapes earlier but they had not nailed down where those tapes were. If they were supposed to be on their clothing, that would limit their actions and flirting to a great extent, if they assumed they were spied on by a hostile camp that might mean they so far had only suspected a tape and that the recording device was not attached to clothing, but hidden somewhere around them - the decoration for example. In such a situation, it would be a spy thing to do to let her ´colleague´know about such a discovery, but of course she couldn´t say it aloud.
She continued eating not to interrupt the normal sounding ´two people out to dine´ soundscape for the tape while one hand casually grabbed for her small handbag which she had placed next to her. She had no pen with her she was sure but, quite untypical for her, a lipstick. They were supposed to just dine together and not look suspicious she thought so she let the lipstick vanish before she started to slowly write down some words on a napkin which she let vanish as well using her left hand so what she was doing was hidden from others´ eyes by her appetizer. To whoever was looking it looked just like she was moving her hand for nothing.
"Taking walks can get me restless and it´s been a while since I last rented a boat." she continued keeping up her small talk tone, her body language more open now, before she turned the napkin around, letting it appear slowly so he could read what was on it. She hoped Gambit would get the twist and understand it allowed them some more freedom in their movements.
The tape is in the vase.

Gambit picked up on her idea but kept his composure. Having the bug in a fixed position rather than attached to their bodies, as could well have been the case, gave them more freedom. One of the possibilities would be to ask the waiter to remove the vase, claiming allergy, another - to simply leave the table. To go where?
A quick glance around the room that Gambit had made before had told him the restaurant had a spacious balcony, as well as many hallways with secluded corners. The place, indeed, offered some possibilities for spy games. Gambit glanced from the napkin back at Shade, and one corner of his mouth rose in a mischievous smirk. The direction where to take their game was more or less clear now. He wondered whether she was thinking the same.
Not before they were done with the main course, though.
"You're really lucky wit' de weather, den," Gambit said. "For a boat ride, too."

Shade had learned by now to make out very slight changes in Gambit´s expression and be able to tell when he was feeling mischievous, therefore she noticed the slight smirk he gave her and answered it with a small glimmer in her eyes that was barely noticable for possible passers by or people who didn´t know her well.
She would take her time; the food was far too good to rush things and the little game was fun and she was intent on testing that role a little further, deciding that although ´agent Shade´ had already taken an interest in Gambit by now, she would not just wait for her chance to get away from the table, drag him into some corner and start snogging him. It was more fun if it stayed a challenge for now.
"It seems I am." she agreed with a little smile, before raising her wineglass to drink again, giving him a small and this time slightly flirtatious glance and nod.
