Even if she wasn't really his girlfriend anyway, Gambit was sure he would have had her by now - the signs and the mood she was giving away were far too unambiguous for his observant eyes. Of course, it wasn't much of a challenge to win somebody who wanted to be won, but then again, at least half of his past victories went that way, so he had no scruples about it.
"Actually, if ya ever plan t' visit New York again in de future, I wouldn' suggest August," he remarked. "Choose May or October. No sense in tryin' to enjoy a large city in de summer heat." Ah the blessed small talk, boredom is thy name. He knew they weren't playing on the level of words, anyway, so whatever they both said was irrelevant to the actual game.

With his empathy, Shade was sure it was easy for Gambit to get an idea of her intentions and the fact that she was feeling a lot more flirtatious than she was showing now - as if he hadn´t known anyways she thought with an inward chuckle. It was a game, both of them probably knew how it would go at some point, but that didn´t take away the fun. It was something she hadn´t tried before and it was an interesting thing to try.
"Very true." she agreed when the waiter appeared again to bring the main courses. The table wasn´t too big and when she stretched one leg a little, her foot very briefly touched his leg - a movement that agent Shade could easily put of as being mere accident and no intention later. "summer heat is worst in cities like that."

He didn't object to the brief touch of her foot, but didn't show any encouragement, either, leaving that area solely as her own playground for now. His experience showed that flirting females, having tried physical contact once and receiving no objections, would by all means try it again after some time, just in case, testing, so he reserved his reaction for that second time.
"Outta curiosity - what was your last vacation like?" he asked, continuing with the vacation idea.

His reaction to her only seemingly incidental touch was a neutral one and she left it at that for the moment, noticing Gambit had not pulled away in his roll. She would have to keep the flirting subtle for the moment, not just because of the tape, but also because she was curious of what Gambit the agent would do once he caught up with it properly.
"It´s been a while since I had one." she gave back, continuing the small talk. "I went on a trip with a good friend which was fun." She didn´t give much more information for now, just because going into too much detail about names and places seemed a thing a spy wouldn´t do at least how she guessed things to be. "What about you?" she asked instead, turning the conversation into a direction so it was her asking questions now.

"My last vacation?" Gambit specified, then gave a small sigh, taking a moment to think. "Nothin' too spectacular," he said. "Which is why, if y'allowed me t' accompany you on some of your trips around de city, I would hope t' compensate for dat."

It was an offer that went into a clear direction for her, given the slight hints he had given nonverbally so far as had she. To a listener it could still easily sound like a chat of two colleagues thinking about what to do being stuck together on some mission in a city - or two people who were chatting randomly and talking about how to spend some time; nothing ambiguous about that.
"Sure." Shade gave back with a little nod. "Vacations are usually too short anyways. Would be a shame not to see something of the city if one has the chance to."

"It definitely would be," Gambit nodded.
It seemed that they had made it through to the main course, and the signs he was receiving from her were reassuring enough, so he decided he was at a liberty of taking the conversation to a slightly more personal level. Designing your own identity was always fun, so he meant for Shade to have some more fun at the moment.
"Do you travel alone?" he asked.

Had she indeed been the person she pretended to be and him likewise, Shade would by now have given him a glance that told him she was looking behind his small talk facade, raising an eyebrow accompanied with half an amused smirk and so she did, the tone in her voice not betraying that though.
"I do." she said, taking another sip of her wine. Slow that down, Shadey, she reminded herself. You wouldn´t want to get tipsy now. "It gives me more liberty although a little company is not necessarily a bad thing."

"D'ya have a family?" Gambit asked. "As in children an' all dat?" Whoever these two people were they were pretending to be pretending to be, they didn't know one another too well and the dinner was probably a necessity, not just a friendly meeting.

Shade tried to think herself into her roll further. If she was a secret agent that might mean she could still have a family and keep it a secret from them, but at her age preferring a career over an own family in a job like this sounded more likely to her. "No." she therefore replied. "not yet. What about you?"

"No," Gambit shook his head, deciding that his 'I used to be married' song would be clichéed here beyond even being traditional, so he went for the idea that two single secret agents were simply a better, if simpler, option. "My job requires me to travel a lot; family wouldn't fit in." Come to think of it, this reply fitted all three of the levels of his identities at the moment, so he was even somewhat proud of coming up with it.

Shade wondered for a moment how much of that was true for the real Gambit. She still hadn´t asked him about kids because there had been no oportunity for it she had found fit and now that she remembered her question it was hardly an option. She found it very likely he had kids by now, the question was merely how many. She didn´t know much about his lifestyle, especially not before they had met, but his general flirtatious attitude and what he ahd told her on the boat about kissing another and what he had told her once about her being his first steady relationship in a long while, made it plausible he had kids. And she briefly also wondered whether he had made use of the ´freedom´ he had asked for on the boat - not really asked for, rather stated, but still. She shrugged inwardly at the thought. It was a possibility and she had said she would deal with it, even thought the thought felt strange. And there was a thought that made it easier to deal with the possibility of him having affairs. Things Gambit had admitted: I need you. I had to break my neck to realize it. and I think I´m in love with you...
Her thoughts were not obvious as she never let her roll slip. Shade nodded while she continued eating. "Same with me." she said. "I never stay in the same place long."

Even in character Shade couldn´t fight to smile back at him. "Maybe." she said. "I mostly forget to take many pictures." Which was an oposit to herself, but it was interesting to bring in oposits now and then into that role.
Dinner was great but she found herself being careful around the things where she could not directly make out what it was, trying everything nonetheless. She was in a rather content mood but getting more and more flirtatious, forcing herself to keep back some of that to keep things exciting and not too obvious. She was curious at what Gambit would come up with and whether and how he would make some moves.
"Where did you travel last?" she asked, her leg once more straying into his direction. This time she slightly pushed up one leg of his trousers a little, feigning she was merely trying to cross her legs, not intending touch.

Gambit rocked his leg slightly towards her, pretending the gesture had nothing to do with her, merely a minor shift in his position since he was obviously too engrossed with his food rather than making advances at her.
"Sweden," Gambit said, choosing - just for the sake of more fun and challenge - one of those rare countries he had never been to.
