"I don't know," Emily shrugged. She bit her lower lip for a second. "People who prefer to sit in the corner at parties aren't usually good at coming up with ideas for conversations," she said.

::Pietro accepted that. Before his speed had taken complete hold of him, he had been a talker. He had been able to talk for hours on end. Then his speech sped as fast as his thoughts and his feet, and no longer could he speak for hours. Hours became days, weeks to him, seconds became hours, and his words became unintelligably fast. Now he rarely spoke more than two sentences at a time, in order to keep communication possible. Wanda was the talker now. As a result, he, too, was not particularly skilled at topics for conversation.
His attempt to think of one was cut short when the train came to a sudden, screeching halt. The lights in the car flickered, before dimming. He glanced out the window; they were not at a station but rather paused on the tracks.::

Since Emily was sitting along the train's movement, she slid a bit forward in her seat when the train came to a halt, and her bag with pastry fell off her knees and onto the floor. She gasped in surprise, automatically throwing her hand sideways to support herself against the wall. She'd ask what happened, but it took her a few seconds to manage her surprise.

::Pietro picked her pastry bag off the floor and set it down on the seat beside her. He glanced out the window a second time and then focused on her.:: "Are you injured?"

"No," Emily shook her head. "What happened?" she asked, although she should have realized he knew about as much as she did, having been at the same place where she was.

"We stopped," ::Pietro disliked stating the painfully evident, but he had no further information about the cause.::

Obviously... Emily shut her mouth promptly, not wishing to ask anything else. She leaned back in her seat, not knowing what else to do - waiting was the only idea.

"Wait here," ::Pietro said, rising from his seat. He left the car at a painfully slow pace and jumped to the ground from the divide between train cars. He sprinted along the length of the train to the engine. Jumping back to that divide, he opened the door and listened for a few seconds to the conversation between conductors. "...third rail not giving power...engines stopped..." He heard enough; they were stuck here. He shut the door, jumped, and ran, and was back in their car within three seconds.::

Emily had seen him move fast before, and still blinked at him in mild astonishment at such speed. "Any news?" she asked.

"The train lost power," ::Pietro replied, mildly irritated. Stalled trains and traffic were two of the biggest irritants in his life. The world moved slowly enough already, additional halts were nothing short of maddening.::

"Is there a bus station or anything nearby that we could move to?" Emily asked, noticing he wasn't happy about it; very few people would have been, for that matter, and she wasn't exactly jumping in joy at the prospect of waiting in a dark and empty car for the train to get fixed.

::Pietro glanced down at the two bags, the purse, and the package he had. With a bit of creative organization, he could take hold of everything, and her. His eyes returned to her face.:: "Have you ever gone for a two-hundred mile an hour run before?"

"Uh..." Emily opened her mouth, then realized what he meant. "No. But something tells me I'm about to do it..."

::Pietro noticed both her surprise and hesitation. He so rarely spent time in the company of others that it was easy to forget not everyone was as comfortable with the mode of transportation as he and Wanda.:: "Only if you are comfortable with it. Otherwise we can find a bus station somewhere."

Getting carried home wasn't something Emily could say she was prepared for. As comfortable as she felt in his company, such a close contact was unusual for her, to say the least. However, the prospect of getting home in a minute was more inviting than the prospect of walking around looking for a bus and then waiting for it and so on.
"I guess I can handle it," she said, hoping he wouldn't take it as something against him - rather it was her own issue, nothing related to him personally. "Will I get cold?"
