"It be de least Remy can do," Gambit said, raising his hand to run his fingers along the outline of her face.

Her smile broadened a little. "He´s rather good at it." she said, leaning into his touch slightly. It was something she had always thought of him. He could be rather bold and blunt, but when there was a problem, he was always there to listen. It was how it had all started, she remembered: with her needing someone to talk to.

"Good t' know," Gambit chuckled. He straightened up a bit to leave the balcony. "Let's getcha back into bed, non?"

Shade nodded. It was getting somewhat cold and she felt that after their little talk she might be able to sleep now. "Okay." she said.

Stil half-hugging her with one hand, Gambit lead her back to the room and closed the balcony door. It wasn't about fresh air, and it was quieter this way.
He sat her down to the middle of the bed and sat himself next to her, half-turned towards her. "D'ya wanna try an' get some sleep?" he asked, making clear it wasn't a request or a suggestion, just a plain question.

The talk on the balcony had helped and although not all the rumour in her mind had calmed, Shade felt better now. The way Gambit cared forher right now added to that and she smiled a little. "Yes." she said. She was still feeling terrinly tired and maybe she would be able to sleep now. She hoped so. She slowly discarded the towel and leant to kiss him before she grabbed for the blanket again.

He kissed her back and pulled the blanket over her. "I'll tell ya a story t' lull ya t' sleep," he decided.

Shade smiled at him. She could make out his features in the twilight of the room and of course his eyes. "What is it about?" she asked, making herself comortable.

"It's a scary story," Gambit said, "similar to yours."

Shade kept looking at him, lieing on her back now. Gambit rarely told stories about himself but whenever he did, she had the feeling he was doing so for just one reason: because he chose to do so and because he had decided for himself that she should know something particular about him. He had a different image of ´trust´ than she had, but whenever he told her more about himself, Shade felt trusted a little more. "Tell me." she said.

"De story happ'ned when Gambit was seventeen," Gambit said, "jus' a week or two b'fore his marriage." He lay down on his side, propping his head up on his hand as if he was indeed telling a nice fairy-tale.

Shade turned her head so she could watch him. Seventeen, she thought. He had been that young? She did not know when she had thought he might have married, but she had guessed maybe it had been around her age or a little younger. Seventeen. He had almost been a kid.

"I had an assignment t' get a precious stone," Gambit continued. "It was in de hands of a girl, who was also a t'ief. I seduced her an' stole de stone while she was sleepin'.
"Unfortunately, dere were others involved. My brother, who was keepin' my back, an' a guy named Sabertooth - ya prob'ly heard 'bout 'im." He assumed she had, since she had spent some time in the Brotherhood.

Shade followed his story, forming mental images of what he told. Sabretooth - the name sounded familiar, but barely so. Like a name that had been mentioned in the passing, some time ago. In the Lair? "I think I heard of someone with that name." she said. "He was Brotherhood?"

"Yeah, but b'fore dat," Gambit nodded. "So, he was sent for de stone, but he was no t'ief, so he did it his own way. He kidnapped my brother an' de girl, leavin' Gambit a note, so when Gambit followed de note, he found Sabertooth on de roof of Notre-Dame de Paris. Henri an' de girl were hangin' from de roof, upside down, tied up an' held by Sabertooth." He gestured with his fingers pointing down, as if he was holding two mice by their tails.
"Sabertooth suggested Gambit to save one of dem in exchange for de stone," he continued. "An' he would drop de other one."
