There was a door below the ground; iron, reinforced, it looked cleaner than the rest of the surroundings, but there was no sign of life around it. Kevin tried pushing and pulling it, then banged his fists against it when it did not budge.

Shade was getting hectical. Usually, she would have figured that if her companion had not been able to open the door, neither would she. But this was not a usual situation and the sounds from the machines seemed to be getting louder and louder with any second so she jammed her shoulder against the door in the desperate attempt to make it give in that way. Of couse that effort showed no success other than Shade having to grit her teeth because of a bruised shoulder. There seemed to be no way to run. She could feel her fingertips tingling, her powers about to kick in as a survival instinct, then a small window in the door opened.
Shade had no even noticed there was a window in it earlier, but now that her attention was drawn to it she wondered how she could have missed it. For a moment she could see a corridor behind it, dimly lit, then someone moved in to block it from view. A man, judging by voice and a mutant, that fact given away by the unnatural yellow shade of his eyes. "Password?" he demanded in a matter of fact voice.
"Please, let us in," Shade immediately said. "we´re mutants, we need to hide." She had an idea about how unnecessary that sentence was with the world crumbling around them, but still. There was something like...a mutant hiding place behind that door and it was their only hope to get in there and away from it all.
The background noise of the building collapsing had been there all along, but now came a more shattering explosion. Whether it cause things to break down completely and whether the debris made an end to her in the illusion, Shade could not tell. From one second to the other, things went black and she found herself back at the Hellfire...
