Alex raised his head to look at her, then sat up, putting his arms over his bent knees. "It's not whoa," he said, "it's oh no. I don't know why it happened, I really thought I was at a safe level."

Violet still had, at best, an incomplete understanding of how Alex's powers worked or what it was like for him to have to deal with them. She thought about it for a moment and then asked, "Are you okay?"

"Now I am," Alex nodded. He studied her for a moment and then said, "Want to sit here for a minute? I feel like we've run away in terror from the Club, we could use a pause to just calm down." After a pause, he added, "The ground is rather warm." Well, technically, it was grass, but he hadn't paid much attention when he had fallen down onto it.

Violet bit her lip, considering this offer. Then she glanced back in the direction of the Bronco. "Two things," she started, "One: Someone's going to have seen that and called the authorities. They're not too keen on random explosions here. Two: They're going to tow my truck. We left it in the middle of the street." While she would have happily paid to retrieve her truck from impound in order to spend a romantic evening with Alex in the park, it wasn't the right time. She decided not to mention the high rate of crime in the park at night.

"The voice of reason," Alex nodded and finally stood up. He was probably indeed shaken by what had happened at the Club, so some things escaped his attention. He made a mental note to notice and control such situations in the future. "You know, though, I seriously doubt the tow car would be able to drag your truck away," he said in a more humorous tone as they started to walk back to the car.

"I've learned that people tend to leave it alone," Violet agreed, "But I just want to be safe, you know?" Soon, they were back at the truck, which was just as they'd left it. Violet got back inside and started it up. They still had most of their trip back to Westchester ahead of them.

"You know, I used to drive big trucks when I lived in California," Alex said as they drove on. "I'd let you try one of those," he chuckled, looking at her, without any sarcasm but with genuine good humor.

"I've been through some serious stuff with this truck. I trust it," she replied. It was a warm night and the truck, though reliable, did not have air conditioning. Without thinking, she peeled off her jacket and threw it into the back seat.

Alex noticed she was more confident in her flimsy outfit now that she had been before the party. Was it because she'd gotten used to it or because she simply didn't care anymore, he didn't know. He was feeling rather hot, too, but his costume was basically of two pieces and he couldn't just remove the top part and sit there half-naked, so he had no options. He searched for something to talk about. "I'm sorry about that thing with my powers," he said. "I really thought I had discharged them before coming here. I think something charged me up during the party."

Violet shook her head. "There's no need to apologize," she said, "It probably had something to do with whatever that time travel war zone was." She turned to him briefly, not wanting him to worry. As she did, she began to feel a little nauseous and disoriented. Her eyes moved quickly back to the road as she swerved. Once again, she slammed on the brakes in the middle of the street. The sick feeling was getting worse, and fast. "I'm not feeling so good," she said, leaning on the steering wheel.

Alex swayed forward as Violet slammed the brakes, and then turned to her quickly with concern. "What happened? What's wrong?"

Violet felt like she was either incredibly drunk or feverish. "Dizzy..." she mumbled, still hunched over the steering wheel.

Alex was a bit lost for a moment, not knowing what to do or how to react. Then he unbuckled, got out of the car, leaving the door open, walked around it and opened Violet's door as well. "Just breathe some fresh air for a while," he said, watching her with attention and concern.

Being in the altered reality at the club had left Violet not only physically and emotionally drained, but it had given her a sort of vertigo. Shifting from one reality to the other and then being blown up had thrown her off internally. She let go of the steering wheel and leaned back in her seat. She was now beginning to look as sick as she felt. "Okay," she said, but her voice was weak. "I think I need a nap."

"I think it would be the best, yes," Alex nodded. He thought for a moment and then asked, "Do you want me to drive you to the Institute, then?" She had been rather adamant about not letting anyone else drive her car, he remembered that, but what other options did they have, really? Let her nap in the car? Leave the car in the city and take a cab?
