Violet giggled and turned her face away from him, looking momentarily out of her window. "No, that would be unacceptable," she said. After another pause, she asked, "So, what's it like being Scott Summers' brother?"

Alex thought for a long moment, almost long enough to make anyone wonder what the sudden problem was. He tried to sum it up. "I don't have too many memories of him from my childhood," he said. "And then we spent many years apart, and so now it's just- Well, it's confusing at times. But I like having an older brother," he grinned.

Violet wondered if she'd crossed a boundary because of Alex's silence. His answer was strange, "Why did you spend so much time apart?" She asked. Violet was just as clumsy in conversation as she was physically.

"We lost our parents," Alex replied; it wasn't too difficult for him to say it, it had been very many years ago and he had been very little. "I was adopted into another family. Scott found me and contacted me just a few years ago."

Violet was reassured by the tone in his voice, but still felt like she'd breached some sort of conversational standard. "I'm so sorry," she said, her voice quiet and stunned.

"It's okay," Alex assured her, briefly placing his hand on her forearm as if to confirm his words. "I've come to terms with it ages ago." To shift the subject back from the uncomfortable turn the conversation had taken, he continued, "So, I guess, to answer your first question, I'm learning to be Scott's brother, so that's what it's probably like."

Violet's eyes darted to his hand as he touched her arm, then quickly returned to the road. Traffic was building up in front of them. "I have a feeling we're going to be a little late," she said.

Violet felt better once inside the truck. She put the keys in the ignition and rested her head on the steering wheel briefly. "At least that was a memorable first date," she said from this position as Alex climbed into the passenger seat. The night had not gone as she'd hoped, to say the least, and she was tired and drained.

Alex grinned. "Definitely," he agreed. Then he looked at her, with curiosity, while buckling up. "So it actually was a 'date' date? Or, well, still is?"

Violet raised her head, but didn't look at Alex. He'd been unsure all this time? That made things a little awkward. "Um..." she started, wondering how to dig herself out of this one, "I thought it was."

"Okay," Alex nodded, leaning back in his seat comfortably, "I thought so, too, just wanted to make sure." He mentally scolded himself because this sounded really stupid, at least to him, and it probably was completely unnecessary to ask at all, but oh well.

Violet sighed in relief. That would have been way too embarrassing. She finally turned to him and said, "I wish it had been a little less... life threatening."

"True," Alex agreed. He thought for a second and asked, "What happened to you, by the way? You disappeared, I thought you were with Shade."

Violet tilted her head in curiosity. "I remember Shade touched me, turning me invisible. I knew I didn't want that, because I'm clumsy enough when I can actually see my feet, so I froze," she felt there was something there that she was missing. She shrugged, "Then I woke up in the club again."

"Oh," Alex said. "Well. I think I suffocated to death. And it was my own fault. A curious experience." One of a kind, he added in thought.
