Shade had a thorough look at the weapons, thinking. The knives, she crossed out. She knew herself, and she in particularly knew that the situation in the hotel where she had used a weapon recklessly had been an extreme situation, one that had not shown her real self. In a situation that actually needed her to defend herself she might be reluctant to use a knife. It took some guts to stab, she thought. She wasn´t sure she had it, or even whether she wanted to have it. No, definitely not.
Other weapons were more to her liking. Unnoticingly she had sorted them into ´bloody´ and ´unbloody´ even though a hit over the head with a blunt weapon could of course cause laterations just as well. After weighing some in her hand and placing them down again, she said: "I think something short distance and something long distance would be good." She pointed at some nunchakus, "for short distance. And a long distance weapon like a tranquilizer gun or something like this." She had said no gun, but that, at least for her, had implied lethal guns.

Gambit wondered why Shade would choose nunchakus, but he had absolutely no objections to that as long as she was aware of their additional weight and would be willing to learn how to use them.
The shop assistant nodded, noticing that the range of possible items had just been expanded a little. He produced some more examples. "We've got slingshots; here's a makarych - non-lethal, rubber bullets or gas; and this is a Cap-Chur," that one looked almost like an ordinary pistol, slightly longer, "shoots tranquilizer darts. The darts we don't sell, though, you'll have to get them through a medical prescription."

"Are there some that have no metal in them?" Shade asked, pointing at the various type guns. "I mean none at all, not even nails, clips, small parts or bullets." She had heard somewhere that some guny were entirely made of plastic...where the heck had she heard that?... but some of those did apparently have metal to them, at least in parts. And metal was not good because...she tried to follow that thought. The Brotherhood, she thought. Magneto. Magneto could manipulate metal. That made sense even though not why she would avoid metal because of that. Well, probably because, as Gambit had told her, she had left. Possibly Magneto had not been thrilled. Whoever he was and however powerful he was. But for some reason it had set a no-metal rule for her.

"Well, then your option is the slingshot," the guy said, "or something pneumatic. It won't be lethal, maybe just scary and will buy you some time." He thought for a moment, then walked away, looking for something that would fit the description.
"Ya still gonna have t' learn how to shoot an' handle a firearm," Gambit told Shade while the guy was out of earshot. "Even if ya buy a friggin' toy water gun."

"I don´t have a problem with firearms as such or with learning how to handle one," Shade said, turning towards him. "If you want me to I´ll practise till I hit things in the dark. I just don´t want to carry one around more than necessary. At least not a lethal one." Been there, done that, she thought. And no matter whether or not the guy she had shot had deserved it, she felt the strong urge to set herself aside from that part of her that was not really her but someone who had been manipulated against her will.
It was a point she had made earlier that day already. Training on it, all right, she could see why Gambit thought it to be important, his joke with the zombies aside. But she felt a need to set herself apart from it.

"Fine," Gambit said, crossing his arms on his chest. "No pressure, we jus' go wit' de flow."
The shop assistant returned, placing some clumsy-looking pistols on the counter. "Here they are, all pneumatic, some with pellets, some with rubber bullets. They do have metal parts, though, in the trigger mechanisms and some fittings and so on..."

Shade had a look at the weapons, weighed them in her hand. She felt a bit ...restricted in her ability to judge on this, and this was not because she didn´t know stuff about gun. "Give us a moment, all right?" she said to the man with a smile before doing a few steps out of earshot, waiting for Gambit to join her.
"I don´t fully remember the metal thing," she said, her voice low. "All I know is that by leaving the Brotherhood I think I might have made Magneto my enemy and that he can detect me when having anything metal on me. Did I ever tell you anything about that? It´s a bit fuzzy up there." There would of course be the possibility to take a gun for training, she thought, and a slingshot for carrying.

"Ya did," Gambit said, "not much, though. I didn't ask, either. Ya still think dis might be an issue?" He paused. "I mean, I know ya don't remember much of it, but-"

"I don´t know," Shade said, giving a small shrug. "Guess I got to trust on your judgement here. Do you know that guy? Would you say he´s dangerous? In a way that he could be more or equally dangerous than other threats?" And then there was the prophecy, talking about division. If that was true, there might be confrontations. And whatever the reasons, her gut feeling told her to be on guard. "Or should I say I take one of the guns instead of the slingshot?"

"He's not safe," Gambit said. "And you can take anythin' ya want. Don't mean ya gotta carry it around or actually use it. We can buy a selection of stuff an' den ya practice an' choose."

Shade considered that for a moment, then nodded. She didn´t like how her lack of memory narrowed in her ability to determine which possible dangers there were, which people to be wary about, things like that. "Okay." she said, then went back to have another, closer look at the weapons.
In the end she decided to stick to the nunchakus. They were a bit heavy, but seemed quite effective - with some practise of course. She picked some that seemed to weigh best in her hand. "These." she said, placing them down on the table. "And one of these guns," she pointed out at one of the pneumatic guns, "and the slingshot."

Just because he felt like it, Gambit added a taser and a kubotan to the selection. The kubotan was small and she could easily hide it in one of those tiny pockets that would be added to her costume.
"Anything else?" the shop assistant asked.
Gambit shook his head briefly, thinking about possibly buying a pair of night vision goggles or some infrared searching device later, but this would be seen from Shade's field training. He paid in cash.

When they left the shop, Shade had no doubt that they would be trying out all these things rather sooner than later. It gave her a strange feeling of glee, not entirely sure where that came from but guessing that since she had always been more or less someone to go roughhousing around and build her own slinghots and bows as a kid, she could see this kind of training partly as catering to her inner tomboy.
When they walked back to the car, something came to mind again. "Why does my costume need a tracking device?" she asked. "in case I get lost again?" She guessed that the answer would be something along the lines of that Gambit was more skilled in defense and that if anything went wrong he could find her more easily, but she wanted to make sure. Just because.

"Yes," Gambit said. "Ya know how it is wit' invisible girls..." he walked to the car and put the boxes and the bags in the trunk.

"Actually, I don´t" Shade said as she got into the car again. She could catch the bit of humour in his choice of words, but didn´t fully respond to that just now. "never met one who has the same powers I do." She buckled the seatbelt again, then tapped her fingers on the window frame, pondering before facing Gambit. "You know what irks me about this?"
