Shade leant her head against the window as she looked at him and grinned, chuckling a little. It was obvious that there was already a lot more planning and plotting going on in that busy mind than Gambit let show and she found that rather adorable - she didn´t mention it. One didn´t need a three-year-memory of knowing Gambit to know that ´adorable´ might not be a favourite adjective he liked to be described with.
"Horses of worry?" she grinned. "Nah, I´m just... I just like to see things through and see where this is going. Cause he seemed like a decent guy. It wouldn´t be fair to get a young dad into serious trouble. Unless you tell me that this Morph is one hell of a bad guy that is." Her tone was more or less joking but Gambit probably knew her well enough to know that she was serious about not wanting to get someone who had absolutely no part in this whole mess to get stuck in a dead end situation. That was just not her way to act.

To be honest, Gambit was rather vague on Morph's background. But it worried him rather little because Morph's child would ensure that Morph wouldn't plan any funny stuff and tricks of his own.
"What is dis, some comic book division?" he asked. "He's got a skill. He'd be lyin' if he said he weren't usin' it. I'm gonna hire him like a professional, so his family life is of little importance t' me."

Shade nodded, thinking about that for a moment. A professional, she thought. She did not know Morph nor whether he had done anything of the like before. And if things were well planned, all possible dangers considered, she was fine with it, as long ... as long as they did not just cover the risks for themselves that was. She was certain that was what Gambit would be doing anyways, making sure Morph got out of this (in their own interest of course), but for some reason it was important to her to make that point, if only to herself. She hardly knew Morph, knew nothing about him, but that was not the point. The point was another one.
"Yeah," she said after a few seconds of silence. "I just want to make sure we differ." No accusation against Gambit was in her tone or anything, it sounded more like something that she was considering for herself, something that was important to her. In her time in New York she had never clearly chosen a side, but she had always had an idea of what she considered right or wrong and Gambit probably knew a bit more about that than she herself did. And he was doing all of this not for himself but for her. To help her. Which made her responsible for what happened. She turned to face Gambit again. "Do you think he´s good?" she asked. Good as in what he did, not as in affiliation. That much was clear for her at least.

"Ya differ on what?" Gambit asked. "How would it be of any help?"

"Differ on how we get what we want." Shade said. "in that we make sure it´s not just...manipulating others for our aims. Cause that doesn´t feel nice." She tossed Gambit a long look. "I really wanna see that guy behind bars you know though."

"I know," Gambit nodded briefly. Manipulating people wasn't against his principles; if he could get what he wanted by lies and blackmail, he would.

Shade looked out of the window for a moment, considering. Fact was, she didn´t know anything about this Morph, so maybe it had been is somewhat insecure reaction to Gambit´s initiative that had made her wonder if the guy was up to it - and whether it was fair to make him be up to it at all.
What Shade didn´t know was that this was behaviour of a certain pattern. She had never actually chosen a side in the way some mutants did. She had never officially joined the X Men and she had clearly set herself apart from the Brotherhood after tampering with it but her way of defining herself had often gone along ways of who she did not want to be like. Not to be like Magneto. Or now: not to be like Manuel. Especially not remembering everything, this provided a plausible framework to keep herself from a simple black / white classification in a world where she was beginning to remember herrself as somewhere between these two extremes.
After a few seconds, she turned towards Gambit again, studying him with something that bordered a smirk. "So, this gonna be like in one of those movies?" she asked, joking. "that mean I´ll have a shadow soon asking me things about what Manuel could know about me or study me body language and speech patterns?"

"Oh, dis is entirely his jurisdiction," Gambit replied. "His M.O. ain't somethin' I'm familiar wit', sorry, but I guess it could be like what you're describin', along th' general lines, why not."

"Not a problem with that," Shade said, following a thought that had been going through her head ever since a question she had asked Morph the evening before. "we need to be careful about Manuel. We didn´t hang out that long I think, but if they ever meet in this whole thing, Morph has to be believable for him. And that´s where things might get tricky because Morph said he can´t copy powers, but Manuel knows what mine are."

"Powers are a minor detail," Gambit brushed it off without worrying. "You could be in shock an' could've stopped usin' 'em. Could've been cured. Lotsa things. I'd be more worried in case dere's a resident telepath servin' de police, but, again, dat's for later plottin'."

Shade had to admit that Gambit had a point . Maybe, if she had had her full memory, she would have been able to assess the situation and its loopholes a bit better, having more memory of her experience with mutants and mutant powers. Now she was beginning to guess. there was memory already, but not all of it.
She thought for a moment, something else crossing her mind. In her situation and what all of the amnesia had led to, all the anxiety and insecurity it had caused, Manuel had been her immediate focus of vengeful feelings. But of course there was more. "Maybe..." she said "when Manuel runs into the trap he´ll have info about that mutant hater group, too. He´ll try to justify what he did to me. I wouldn´t mind." If there was anyone else she wanted to see behind bars, it was them.

"It ain't my concern," Gambit said firmly. "I got only one goal in mind, so I'm gonna focus on it, don't wanna be distracted, it's complex enough as it is."
It was slightly untrue, however, since he liked more complicated scenarios, tangled webs that could lose their ends or bring to more interesting developments somewhere in the future. Although not all such scenarios could be played out with a reliable degree of safety, and Shade wasn't the card he'd willingly toss into the mess on the table just to see an amusing game round unfold.

For just a second, Shade felt the urge to contradict. Because a moment ago it had occured to her tha Manuel wasn´t the only guy that had done wrong. Manuel had done wrong to her, the people he had wanted to target with her as a tool were still on the loose as well and more than anyone deserved to be put behind bars for what they had done and what they would continue doing.
But she caught herself. It wasn´t fair, she thought. It wasn´t right to ask for that. Things were risky enough as they were.
Had she had her full memory, Shade would have been able to guess the motifs behind this, but even now she had an idea: he was making sure she was safe, he had done so ever since they had run into each other at the warehouse. His answer fit into this. She nodded. "No extra risks." she thought out loud. "Fine with me." Plus, it was very likely that Manuel would try everything to justify himself, to safe his skin.
