Gambit followed the same way, not running, but walking and trying to both listen to Shade's steps (not that he could hear much right now) and rely on his sixth sense to know where she could possibly be.

Shade was tempted for a moment to give an indignant, slightly annoyed grunt. Whether he heard her or not, he was difficult to get rid of. Possibly he had not heard her yet, otherwise he wouldn´t be walking but running.
She stayed where she was and very slowly took another stone from her pockets, putting it into the slingshot. Then she aimed into the scrap pile opposit of her, not close enough to Gambit to be a danger, but aiming to distract. If he only looked away for maybe a split second, she might be able to use that to her advantage. She shot and the stone hit something metal up on the scrap next to him about a dozen metres away from Gambit.

Gambit was momentarily distracted by the clatter, turning his head in that direction. However, he quickly realized that such a sound came from a too high point - Shade wouldn't be able to get up there without making more sounds, that meant she had thrown something to create the distraction. This, in its turn, meant she was in the opposite direction from where the sound came. Gambit turned and, more quickly now, followed Shade's invisible trail. He swung his bo staff left and right, blocking the path and preventing Shade's escape from his advance.

Shade bolted. Running as fast as she could she reckoned that right now she had no other possibility than to just run as fast as she could. He was closing in on her and she had to be careful to avoid him running her into a trap. She ran and made a quick turn to the left, ran on to see that after a few metres, the narrow path opened up into an empty space of maybe 15 metres wide and square. She ran out onto it.

When Gambit reached the same place, he slowed down. The narrow path had been to his advantage, but here he had very few chances of catching Shade, especially if she took one of the exits. And he didn't want to start showering her with exploding cards, so there were no safe options.
"Okay," he said, "I give up, you win."

Shade had run a bit further, still at full speed because she could never tell when he would decide to catch up with her and when he might see where she was. When she heard his voice, she slowed down, her breath going a bit faster as she let her powers slip and threw up her arms in a sort of improvised victory dance, the slingshot still in her left hand, appearing about ten metres away from him.
"Not that bad, huh?" sh asked, grinning broadly as she turned around to face him.

Gambit walked to her, casually at first, then leaping just the last few steps with the help of his bo staff, and caught Shade in a sleeper hold. "An important lesson: never trust your opponent, chere," he told her, then let her go. "Bang, you're dead."

Shade turned, narrowing her eyes at him slightly. "You know I wouldn´t have revealed myself if this wasn´t you running after me but someone who actually wanted to do me harm." she said. "I would have just run on or found a hiding place and waited till he was gone and even then I would not have walked around visible till I was absolutely sure they were no longer there."

"Blah-blah," Gambit said. "D'ya listen at all? None of those 'woulda-coulda' will count when you're lyin' on de street dead."

"All right, I´m sorry," Shade replied, raising her voice a bit and throwing up her arms in a half aggravated manner, something that she had not intended. It was a reflex and she wondered where it came from. She paused. Took a breath, then looked at him again. "I´ll remember that next time." she said.

"Don't worry," Gambit gave her a reassuring smile and a pat on her back, "it's just de first day, we'll keep trainin'."

"Yeah," Shade said, returning his smile with a sloppy one of her own. "You know what irks me is that I guess I usually know more about stuff like that. I mean... being around you for a few days in this city that seems to be all dangers makes me think that I probably was more careful and knew more about how to protect myself and be wary of things before all this mess started."

"Not really," Gambit said. "I mean, yeah, ya did, recently, but it's been a long way t' learn for ya," he put one arm around her waist when they started walking back to where they'd left their stuff.

Shade moved her arm around his waist as well while they walked back. "Have I ever made use of my powers that way?" she asked. "to run and hide like that?" She was certain she would remeber, but this was a memory that was interesting and relevant for her right now in this moment and since she didn´t have access to it, she had to resort to Gambit. Back up memory so to say, she thought with a small smirk.

"Not much, t' my knowledge," Gambit said. "We did some trainin' wit' ya, in de Laserzone an' in a sim, an' den ya also ran away from a Sentinel."
