"It is," Alex agreed. He waded closer and leaned above her to make sure they had eye contact and she wasn't just staring at the sky while talking to him. "Just promise you'll be careful and don't drown, otherwise they'll say you drowned on my watch and us Californian folks take it personally," he joked.

Violet opened her eyes and looked up at him. "I'll be fine," she said with a smile. "I guess I'll see you Sunday for our space party date, right?"

"Oh yes," Alex nodded, showing he hadn't forgotten about that. "I'll drive by your room on an imaginary bike to pick you up."

Violet laughed. "Meet me by the front door around six and we can take my truck into the city. It's about an hour ride." She said. They hadn't discussed the specifics of how they'd meet and make their way into the city for the party yet, and she doubted she'd see him again before that night.

"Will do," Alex nodded. He walked to the edge of the pool and pulled himself up and out. Throwing a glance at his dripping-wet jeans, he shook his head with a chuckle and went to get the rest of his clothes.

Violet turned herself over in the water and swam over the the edge and peeked over. "I had fun today," she said.

Alex looked at her. "I know you probably won't believe me, but so did I," he replied, referring to the moments when she had mistakenly thought she'd insulted him or embarrassed herself or something of that kind.

She pushed away from the ledge, still smiling. "A thousand times good night," she said, quoting Romeo and Juliet as she moved slowly across the pool.

Not having any immediately ready quote to respond to that, Alex just smiled and gave something that he was hoping looked like a fancy theatrical wave of his hand, coupled with a curt bow, before he left, heading back to the mansion and leaving wet footprints on the concrete path.
