"I'm an awesome teacher," Violet joked. "But my mutation has to do with mass. I can manipulate any object's mass. I can lower it until it floats away or I can increase it until the object crushes itself." She glanced at Alex as the walked, then turned her eyes back to the path.

"Hm, this is interesting," Alex said. "Does this mean you can fly?" he thought that it was unlikely, since it wasn't just mass that provided for flight, but he had to ask to be certain.

Violet shook her head, "Nope, can't fly. Actually, I don't use my power on myself, it's too dangerous." She paused briefly, then asked, "Have you given any more thought to your costume for the party?"

"Well, not much," Alex said. "I browsed for some ideas online and I thought that if I could find where to get that costume from Tron: Legacy, I'd wear it. But other than that- no, nothing solid."
(( I couldn't resist it because it's so much like Havok's costume design from the comic books ))

((OOC: Love it. He should totally find it and wear it. ))
"That sounds really cool," Violet replied, the tone of her voice conveying her genuine interest. "I just pulled together some odds and ends I found at a thrift store," she added with a shrug. "It won't be all that impressive, but it will get me in the door."

"Will you have some fake weapon along with all that?" Alex asked, all of a sudden feeling giddily childish at the possibility to discuss such a topic. When was the last time he had been thinking of buying a laser gun or of having a lightsaber? He had plasma weapons of his own now, but the boyish dream to wield a sci-fi weapon had not disappeared entirely. Some things just needed a proper closure.

Violet laughed, because she shared the giddiness. "Yeah, my costume has this ridiculous laser gun that looks like it was manufactured in the late seventies. It's huge and plastic." The toy gun had been the best part of putting together her costume. The rest of it, as she'd said, wasn't terribly impressive. Unfortunately, she was on a budget, both of time and money.

"That is great," Alex laughed. "We should take pictures, then. Hm, are you on Facebook?"

Violet shook her head. "No, I don't feel it's responsible to share my private life on a public forum like that, especially as a teacher," she answered. She didn't have a problem with social networking, she just knew that it could lead to problems, and she had enough problems without inviting new ones.

"Okay," Alex nodded. "I just have this, um, habit from my college years. I'm not always safe at a closer distance so I try to make up for it in other ways." He glanced around, wondering where they would end up if they kept on following that particular path. It was winding between trees and bushes, fortunately, at least lit with infrequent lampposts.

Violet turned to him, curiosity in her eyes. "What habit?"

"Habit of keeping online contacts," Alex explained. "I tend to avoid social gatherings when I can, just to be on the safe side. I mean, I used to-" he made a vague pointing gesture at the mansion. "Here it's a bit of a different matter since I can use my powers more easily, which makes me safer for others. Well, you saw yourself," he added, referring to his discharge of powers at the beginning of this evening walk.

"Oh," Violet said. The way he'd phrased the earlier statement led her to think there would be something much more interesting and scandalous. "That makes sense."

"Good," Alex smiled. "I like it when things make sense."

Violet laughed at this simple, obvious statement. "Me, too," she said, smiling up at him. She looked around, trying to determine where they were. "I've never been out here at night," she said, "Everything looks different."
