New Powers, New Plan

[Polaris]

((Takes place shortly after Opening Lines in the Professor's office))

Lorna had already agreed that she needed power training, so she and the Professor had arranged to meet at the elevator in the afternoon. She came promptly, in jeans, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes because she had no idea what the "training" would be about, besides making sure she didn't screw up Dr. Grey's favorite sculpture or something.

[The Man]

::At the appointed time, the Professor wheeled into the corridor and met Lorna at the elevator. He was quite pleased to see that she had arrived promptly, as not all students were so courteous and aware.:: "Good afternoon."

[Polaris]

"Hi," Lorna replied with a nervous smile. "Sorry I'm early. I do that a lot."

[The Man]

"It is quite all right." ::Xavier pressed the recall button for the elevator, to bring it to the first floor.:: "It is a refreshing habit in your peer group."

[Polaris]

"I'll be later if it makes me normal," she suggested, but it was a light, if nervous, joke.

[The Man]

::Although it could be framed as a joke, the Professor could detect the serious undertone, which was unfortunate. Lorna had come to him initiall without powers, still wishing to fit in, to be normal in whatever context there was. She had not changed in that regard.:: "You are normal in other ways, and it is better to keep a good habit than to develop a poor one."

[Polaris]

She shrugged by way of response as the elevator doors opened. "I guess so." Talking about whether she was normal or not seemed a little strange to her now.

[The Man]

::The Professor gestured for her to enter the elevator first, as he would require more time. Once she had entered, he wheeled inside and pressed the button for the basement.::

[Polaris]

She watched what button he pressed with her hands shoved in her pockets. "OK, so...I've gotten a story from a couple people around here about a training room, but I've also seen some of the powers of people around here. An inside room is a little dangerous, isn't it?"

[The Man]

"Theoretically, yes." ::This, too, was refreshing, for someone to think of the workings of the Danger Room. She was similar to Erik in that way, beyond the similarity of their powers. The Professor continued,:: "However, the room is reinforced and possesses dampening technology which confines the effects of powers to the room."

[Polaris]

She laughed, a little nervously. "I guess I should have figured you had something like that."

[The Man]

"I do have experience," ::Xavier remarked lightly. He had been doing this for decades now.::

[Polaris]

"Are there other places like this?" she asked.

[The Man]

"Not to my knowledge," ::The Professor explained as the elevator stopped at the basement and opened its doors.:: "We are unique in that way so far."

[Polaris]

"I think my parents would be...surprised," she said, with a slight smile. It was a mild joke, although she didn't like to talk about her parents much, she could imagine their reaction.
