"A soda would do it," ::Karl agreed. There was enough caffeine and sugar in there to perk her up.::

When the waitress came back around for the bill, Kat ordered a mountain dew in hopes that it would help. "So, do you live around here, or just passing through?" If the soda didn't help, she was hoping a distraction would. If she didn't think about finding her brother, maybe the place would just come to her.

::"Around" was vague. Karl lived in the tri-state area, and he'd once lived even closer, before that he had gone to school in the City. Now, however, he lived in a quiet little suburb in Connecticut.:: "I live a couple of states over, but I spend a lot of time here." ::In therapy, useless, useless therapy.::

"Connecticut uh? Must be a tough commute depending on which part of the state you live in, " Kat paused as the waitress returned with her drink, thanking her before taking a small sip and turning back to Karl. "Why don't you live in the city?"

::Karl gave a mild shrug of his shoulders, as he didn't have to worry about a commute due to having his license suspended. However, he felt no need to announce that fact to the outside world. And yes, the commute was a bit irritating at times, but his house was right on the New Haven line.:: "It's not so bad, and I have a nice place right now. No need to move."

Kat understood that. If his place in Connecticut was a good place and still allowed him to do what he did with his life then there was no need to move. "That's good," She picked up her drink and took another sip.

::Karl nodded in agreement. It was good enough, as he could not stand being alone in the house he had shared with Tanya, and he could not face his old neighbors.::

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so inquisitive, I'm just trying to distract myself" She admitted to him after nodding her head at him in response to his nod and taking another sip of her drink.

"It's not a big deal." ::Karl wasn't the most conversant person but he understood the need for distraction from real life problems. He had recommended that to patients before, and had heeded that advice after Tanya's death.:: "I hope whatever is wrong with your brother works itself out."

"As do I" She replied picking up the rest of her soda and finishing it. "If he doesn't show up by tomorrow, I'll start looking around the city" Kat was half talking to herself and talking to Karl. Knowing of her brother's old hang outs she was sure she could find him and if not there was always the police.

"That sounds fair. You can't trust the cops for much," ::Karl remarked, before taking another sip of his coffee. He was sour on law enforcement generally, after what had happened to him.::

"What's wrong with the police here?" Kat asked wondering what could have happened to make the man not go to them or what could have happen to the police department that made them so unreliable.

::Karl tried not to roll his eyes at the naivete of the question. It wasn't merely the police here, but police in general.:: "They're not out to help regular people and definitely not minorities."

"Only look out for their own sort of thing?" Kat had seen the police do that many times before. Even being in the army she saw it. With being a mutant she tried not to let it happen, but she wasn't in control of people. They were free to do what they please, even if it hurt everyone in the end.

"Something like that," ::Karl agreed with a nod. In his experience, the police didn't care about minority groups except in the rare instance that an officer belonged to that group. Beyond that, he viewed them as part of an establishment to perpetuate the status quo and nothing more. Stopping crime was incidental to their jobs; not a key part of it, and certainly not finding missing mutants.::
