"Nice to meet you Karl," The waitress came back around to ask if she wanted more coffee or if she wanted anything else. When Kat replied no, the waitress placed her check on the counter and walked away. Having no desire to return to her brother's apartment she left the bill sit there while she "enjoyed" the rest of her coffee and continued her conversation with Karl. "I'm Kat"

She took his hand smiling slightly as she shook it before taking her hand back giving him a nod. It'd been a while since she met a mutant that wasn't wanting to engage in some form of violence. It was refreshing. Though, the only other mutants she'd met had been antagonized by her brother so there was a reason for their hostility. Due to her looking like everyone else and her powers being easy to hide not many people knew she was a mutant so she didn't meet that many. Picking up her cup of coffee she took another sip before setting it back down. "You'd think they'd have better coffee here uh?" She said with a grin at him. It wasn't too bad but it was bad enough to notice.

"Considering this is Manhattan..." ::Karl said with a shake of his head. Honestly, he did expect higher quality coffee in New York, as opposed some other dives. Stronger coffee, at least, but it would have to do. An argument with the staff wouldn't change their formula.:: "Ah, well."

"Better then nothing," She said giving him the same grin. Kat was still worried about her brother, but she knew he was alive, felt it, and he'd told her on more then one occasion he could take care of himself whether it be the truth or not. Worrying about him wasn't going to change whatever happened to him, and there was nothing she could do till tomorrow. She just needed to relax and stay calm which talking to Karl allowed her to do. "Any places you would suggest for better in the area?"

::Karl considered the question briefly and then shook his head.:: "Not around here. Otherwise, I'd have stopped there instead."

Kat couldn't help but give a slight laugh. Of course he would have gone somewhere else. "Good point" She took another sip of the coffee before setting the cup down and pushing it away. "I think next time, I'll grab a soda"

"Me too," ::Karl remarked, glancing down at his own cup of coffee. Not that he was much of a soda drinker, but if he needed a caffeine boost, he could always get a Starbucks shot; they sold those everywhere.::

"You're not much of a talker are ya?" She asked looking at him trying to get a read on him. He seemed very settle, guarded around people.

"No, I'm not," ::Karl replied to her, before taking a sip from his coffee cup.:: "More of a listener."

Kat gave a grin toward him. "I could tell," She said to him before getting a sharp shooting pain in her stomach as if someone was stabbing a knife into it and twisting. Kat immediately grabbed her side and closed her eyes wincing in pain. An image of a man in a black outfit with ashy gray hair was smiling at her, no-at her brother came into her mind. Opening her eyes, she looked down at her side and realized she wasn't hurt. It was her brother. How could she still have her connection with her brother, but not be able to locate him like she had so many times? Kat's face was one of confusion.

::She suddenly shut her eyes and clutched her side as though in pain. Karl, though not what one might call a humanitarian, leaned forward.:: "Are you all right?"

"Yeah...yeah I'm fine" Kat said seeming to be not paying attention to what she was doing as she stared off into space. She tried to mentally locate her brother like she had so many times in the past but it still wasn't working. Someone was really screwing with her powers or something and it was starting to really p*ss her off. Coming back to reality, she realized Karl had noticed her actions. "Uh, I've just had a long day, more exhausted then I thought" She said giving a light grin trying not to show the worry or annoyance in her body language.

::Karl regarded her curiously for a moment, not believing what she had to say. However, it also wasn't his business when one came right down to it, so he accepted her attempt to save face with a nod.:: "I'd recommend another cup of coffee then."

"Considering the way the coffee tastes, it might just make things worse" She said trying to keep the conversation away from the heavy and forget about the images she saw. It was her first night back in her "hometown" after being in Iraq, and instead of catching up with her brother, laughing, having a good time, she came home to find her brother missing, apartment trashed, and her powers on the fritz. "Maybe I should get a soda instead"
