Choosing a place on the road, Gambit sped up ahead, leaving the car behind, then, after a significantly large part of the road was left behind, made sever turns to the right and stopped at an intersection, waiting for the car to drive by again.

Shade kept watching the road. There had been no possibility for the driver to turn another way, so she was sure they had not lost him. When the car drove past them again, she could see the driver - he was male and in the short moment Shade could see his face she estimated his age somewhere between 40 and 50. Difficult to say. Part of her thought that the type of person able to afford a car like this had to have a pretty well payed job.

They followed the car again, disappearing to other roads every once in a while, but it wasn't a long trip - finally the car turned to one of the smaller towns along the road and lowered the speed. Gambit turned to the same road and stopped the bike, waiting to see where the car would turn next.

They didn´t have to wait for long. The car turned right into a street that seemed to belong to a rather well off neighbourhood and stopped at the first house to the left- a typical house of a wealthy but not overly rich family with a white picked fence and a spacious garden.

As soon as Gambit was certain that the car stopped, he turned the bike around and headed back to Manhattan. "If ya see anythin' interestin' passin' by, tell me," he told Shade.

"Yep." Shade said. She was in a rather good and content mood. Driving around following cars was somewhat of a crazy thing to do but it made her smirk inwardly for no apparent reason. "Should I keep in mind changing the colour once we got one?" she asked to make sure she did not pick a car for its colour alone.

"Don't hafta, but ya could," Gambit replied.

"All right." Shade said, continuing to watch out. They were still back on their way to Manhattan and had not yet hit the main buzz of the city yet, when Shade spotted another car. "That one´d look great in deep red." she said.

Gambit took a look at the car in the rearview mirror after it passed them by, then, giving it a good distance, turned around and followed it once again.
They continued with it well into the evening, collecting a total of five potential cars and memorizing five addresses. With all the roads they travelled, it turned out to be a pretty long journey. There was some research work to be done, so Gambit decided to return to the hotel before they would continue at night.

Gambit left Shade couple of blocks away to wait for him while he went to his apartment. Everything seemed clear... no weird letters in his mailbox, no bewildered looks from the staff of the building, no signs of his door being forced. Still, he had his empathy running at full force, almost growing the second set of eyes on the back of his head while he opened his door.
He changed into his thief's outfit, complete with the trenchcoat, chose several more gadgets from his collection and, sticking them all into places over his costume, returned down to the third floor, then used the fire escape staircase and went back to where he had left the bike, looking around cautiously every now and then.

Again, Shade could tell that Gambit was being over-cautious. If he hadn´t been there would have been no reason to leave her behind while he went to his apartment to get some stuff. The fact that he asked her to wait meant possible danger and she was well aware of that, but didn´t bring it up.
Instead she waited with the bike, alert for her surroundings. She was not scared of them being followed but one never knew. New York wasn´t the safest of places at night after all. When he returned, she raised an eyebrow and smirked sligtly. "Did I ever mention you look hot in that outfit?" she asked, climbing back onto the bike.

"Ya didn'," Gambit grinned, "wanna get one for yaself, too?" He put his helmet on.

Shade shrugged. "Looks more practical than jeans and a shirt for things like these." she said and put on her helmet too, continuing to talk over the intercom. "I´d have to give the design loads of thoughts if I ever decide to get myself a cool uniform too I think."

"Designs must be functional, or it's just masquerade," Gambit said. "Every design detail adds ounces to your weight, affects your flexibility, adds t' de amount of energy YOU will hafta spend on extendin' your powers to it. It might sound insignificant, but it ain't when ya be doin' somethin' for twenty hours straight."

What Gambit said reminded her of what he had told her about using strength... and saving it. When they had been training in the Danger Room, this had basically been the same thing, it was all about efficiency. "True again." she said. "I guess if I had answered Scott´s training call I´d have one of these X Men uniforms already, but I never wanted that." She had told Gambit that before. "now I begin to wonder if I should get some form of uniform, just for protection." Rumours about Wideawake and sentinels were unpleasant enough as they were. And some sort of protective clothes sounded more comforting than a jeans and shirt.
