Iris crouched over the ground looking for a good rock like Alex suggested. After a few minutes she had actually made a small pile of smooth, flat rocks. She chose one and picked it up. "Alas poor rock, many of years you struggled out of the water only to be loftily tossed back by the hands of men," she said in a poetic voice before mimicking how Alex had tossed his stone. It didn't exactly skip, it seemed to slide on the water for a little bit then sink, but that was still progress.
"You know what I would like to learn to do?" Iris said picking up another rock. "Pilot a small plane," she told him flicking another rock, this one did the same sliding pattern before sinking.

In Alex's opinion, a rock's fate in the water was better than on dry land; it was subject to less weather and wear on the bottom of the lake. However, he was forced to pick something of the two conversation topics Iris was suggesting, and she seemed to be fond of speaking about several unrelated things at once, something he found hard to sustain. Thinking she wouldn't be interested in a petrology lecture, he decided to go for the 'plane' option.
"Is this defiance I hear?" he asked, praying the conversation wouldn't descend to a darker tone because of the way their biographies were connected to planes. "Wanting to fly a plane in spite of-" he didn't finish, knowing she'd get the meaning.

“Defiant?” Iris asked raising a blonde eyebrow at Alex and smirking. “Perhaps, I am only human; occasionally I do like doing things that might surprise people. I can’t spend my life being inside all the time content with mending other people’s clothing,” a little bit of a rebellious glint came to Iris’ eyes as she threw another rock. “But I like to think my mother wouldn’t mind me learning as cautious as I am. Haven’t you ever wanted to be able to fly? I have, sometimes I’m envious of the people with a mutation that allows them to soar so easily.”

Alex shrugged. "I'm sure very few people in the world haven't dreamed of that at least once," he said in lieu of a more straightforward response. "But there are many things. Surfing, motorcycles, horseback riding, karate, base jumping, - I was surprised that you picked airplanes, of all things, considering."

Iris pursed her lips and let out another small laugh, “I can’t swim so I don’t think I’d make a very good surfer. I’m still fairly new to driving so I don’t think riding a motorcycle is a good idea. Horseback riding would be interesting, but I’d have to study a little bit about horses, I’ve never been around very large animals. Karate, I’m not an athletic person and base jumping seems really extreme for something to do that’s exciting. Once I jump and get to the bottom, then what, I don’t feel like I could learn much from that,” Iris said picking up another rock and flicking it.
“I know it’s a little strange to want to learn how to pilot a play considering it was how my parents died. But I don’t like to think I’d shy away from something that my parents enjoyed so much. My mother being a pilot was how she met my father and she must have loved doing it. If I was going to do one brave thing in my life, I think this is it. What about yourself? Any daring dreams you want to fulfill someday?”

"You do realize my enumeration was only to give an example, right?" Alex asked with an amused expression on his face, ignoring her question for the time being. "Not anything I specifically wanted you to consider out of the whole words of things to do?"

"I know," Iris said flicking another rock, this time it skipped over the water once, then twice. Her lips twitched in a modest smile as she let herself be pleased in being able to skip the rock well at least once. "I want to show you that perhaps when you and I think of activities we have completely different views and I might have been a smart alec a little as well."
Iris turned her head to look at Alex, she swept a few strands of her hair out of her eyes. "Are you concerned of my well being if I fly a plane?"

Alex shook his head with a small lazy smile, obviously allowing her to be a smart alec as much as she'd want to.
"No," he said, "if you learn it properly, your well-being is in your good hands and no reason to worry. It's more like- you know, similar to how many people who get bitten by a dog in their early years won't adopt a dog when they get older."

"I suppose, I guess I wouldn't think of it that way. Growing up so isolated and not knowing about my parents gave me plenty of time to set certain dreams. I think for me, I didn't know so the apprehension that you have never formed. But don't worry dear Alex, not everyone can make a parachute instantly like I can," she said and patted his shoulder gently.

"I never said I had one," Alex pointed out, then chuckled at her other remark. "Okay, I get it. You're safe and sound."

Iris smiled, "Never underestimate a stitch witch Alex, you might find yourself tied up someday," she let out a little chuckle her cheeks flushing at her doing a cheeky pun.

"Ooh, a well-placed threat about a well-placed thread," Alex quipped back, widening his eyes in mock-fear. "Fortunately for me," he nudged her playfully, "I can't be held down by physical objects."

"Ah, I guess that plasma would burn through even the heaviest of my thread even with me changing its density. Not too fond of heat my powers are," Iris said as she sat on the edge of the lake and began pulling off her shoes. She dipped her feet into the water and kicked them back and forth lazily. "Hm, you haven't had to discharge any plasma lately."

"If it's of any consolation, my plasma will burn- I guess disintegrate is the better word, through almost anything, including modified plastic and metal alloys," Alex explained. He watched her bravely dip her feet into what he considered to be just too cold for him to attempt the same, making no move in that direction. Instead, he let one more stone skip along the water surface and then wiped his hands on his jeans. "And no, after my last discharge, I guess I'll be good for another hour or so," he added. "Provided no one pours plutonium into my food or anything."

"I'll alert the chefs, I believe that plutonium and cheese was planned for lunch," Iris said looking completely serious before looking away letting her hair shield her smile. She plucked up a blade of grass then held it between her two hands and made it whistle a few times. She then licked her lips, dropping the grass as she spotted a few ducks a little ways away. She pressed her hands together again and let out a duck call. She did this a few times and watched the ducks come closer and she stopped to watch them.
"Mallard Ducks," she nodded at the brown female and green headed male. "They'll probably build a nest around here."
