(( After Staff Quarters : Arriving to the Institute; closed ))
After the matters with his living arrangement were settled, Alex decided to go for a walk around the mansion, to take a look at the grounds, to see what had changed since his last visit. He needed some fresh air to get the airplane numbness out of his head.
Strolling casually and slowly, he was looking towards the lake, sticking his hands in his pockets.

Iris hate the chill of winter, but spring, she loved spring. Well, she loved spring, summer, and fall but she could do without winter. The weather was decently warm, though it still required a jacket, or as in the thinned skin Iris a medium jacket. She was taking advantage of the sunny day with a walk around the grounds. She had arrived at the mansion in the dead of winter and hadn't willed herself outside in the cold to explore the woods, fields and the lake.
Underneath her coat she wore a light blue turtle neck, her neck wrapped with a heavy dark blue scarf. She was wearing black pants and a pair of hiking boots. She had on a hat that covered her ears and hair with a small tassle on top. Her hair had been fashioned into a Heidi-like hairstyle so only whisps of her blond hair poked out of her hat. She traveled down a path in the woods, carefully due to the slippery mud that covered the trail.
She hoped that she was heading in the direction of the lake. She had been given some shakey instructions by a student whose skin had been gray. Granted a vague point in one direction couldn't exactly be called directions at all. There had been at least three trails she could have chosen, she still wasn't sure where she was going. Suddenly, the trail merged with another and Iris almost ran into someone.
"Pardon," Iris said, "I'm a little lost, by chance do you know the way to the lake?" she asked the man in front of her.

Alex, surprised, looked at the girl who had nearly run into him. She wasn't one he'd met over any of his previous visits. "That way," he said, pointing in the direction where his path, splitting into two, would turn eventually. "New around here?" he asked with a small polite yet friendly smile.

"Well then, I wasn't that far off course. I wonder if all of th trail eventually lead to the lake?" Iris asked peering down the trail as she wrinkled up her nose. She then realized the man was speaking to her so she turned her head towards him. "I've been here, hm, about four months, so fairly new. I just haven't been out on the grounds that much. I'm very much against cold and wet socks."

"I can so relate," Alex smiled a bit wider. "I'm from California... I was actually hoping it would be a tad warmer here this month."

"California? You're a little far from home aren't you?" Iris asked raising an eyebrow and looking the man up and down. She knew of other people who had traveled a lot farther then this fellow. Still from what she heard California was a much warmer state then New York. She wondered if he was cold due to the climate change or if he just prefered warmer weather like herself.
"I'll probably warm up in a few weeks, some places further north are still getting snow."

"I guess so," Alex replied in response to the girl's remark about him being far from home. "Well, the trip will be worth it, anyway... Oh, I'm Alex," he added.

"I'm Iris, pleasure to meet you Alex," she said flashing the fellow a cheerful smile, "Would you care to walk with me to the lake if you're heading that way? I'm guessing it's better to get lost with someone then alone."

"Sure," Alex replied, "and you won't get lost with me, I know my way around," with that, he started walking again, heading to the lake at a not-too-hurried pace.

Iris' eyebrows wrinkled together. She had a pretty good hold on most of the students at the mansion, at least by glance. She hadn't seen Alex before, and he had just gotten off the plane from California. "Have you been here before?" she asked sounding a little puzzled.

"Yeah, a few times," Alex replied. "I visit my brother here sometimes."

"I see, then I guess we won't get lost," Iris said glancing over that the fellow again. She noted that he was just wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt. "Were you in the warm part of California? If not you must be freezing in such light clothing!"

"Wait, and if I am from the warm part, then I'm used to such weather?" Alex chuckled, though it really was kind of cold for him.

"No, I don't think so. California is such a big state, I assumed that the north would be colder then the southern part. So if you were from the northern part you'd probably be use to the cold. Southern part on the other hand you'd probably be freezing by now," Iris said lifting an eyebrow at his odd question. "So would you be comfortable or are you cold?"

"No, but you said if I'm not from the warm part, then I must be freezing," Alex pointed out. He could be pedantic if he wanted to; it fitted his scientific mindset.
