((OOC: This is an April Fool's Day thread.))
::An important aspect of Pietro’s low self-esteem was the fact that he simply never considered himself interesting. Yes, he was more interesting than the average man off the street for a variety of reasons: his experiences, his twin, his powers...but as far as the average mutant was concerned, he did not find himself to be more interesting than most others. And considering how boring he found others, one must wonder what he considered interesting.
Unfortunately for Pietro, others found him far more interesting than he considered himself to be. For the blood relationship that he refused to acknowledge, primarily. He was the Magnusson, a name he had heard before and one which he detested, and some took this to extremes. They wished him to join with his father, and to lead in his stead when the other man was imprisoned or otherwise unable. They wanted him to reach his fullest potential and to bring mutantkind into its golden age. He usually paid no attention to those he considered insane.
Perhaps he should have, given the attention they paid him. On his way home from his shift one night, he was hit with a stun gun and then, once immobilized, hit in the back of his head with a blunt instrument, which he did not see. He lost consciousness.
He awoke in the same alley from where he was taken, unable to tell how much time had passed due to his time sense. Unbeknownst to him, his memory had been wiped of the excursion to the secret base, where his blood and other genetic material had been taken. Subject to the combined powers of a few of his father’s admirers, they had hoped to clone him, and accelerate the clone’s aging and boost his potential. Pietro had a few “tricks in his genes” which through either subconscious desire to keep them suppressed or stunted growth from the harsher events of his youth, had yet to make themselves apparent. But they were to be encouraged and exploited.
He filed an assault report with his department and returned home, not thinking anything of it beyond disliking that he had been caught off guard.
Months later, a second Pietro appeared at the Institute. He had passed muster with Xavier, possessing Pietro’s memories up until the time of the accident, and he attributed his existence to that of an errant mutant power. He had been created by a mutant who had been assaulted, who could create duplicates of others, and that mutant’s assailants had gone after Pietro, noticing him up the street. It…worked enough that he had not been questioned, while he set about living up to his true purpose. Part of that was to usurp the original Pietro’s life.::
