"Well, it was about a year after I came to America." Nadia sat back in her seat to think about it, folding her hands in her lap. "So that would be... about five years, I suppose. But it has only started catching on the last year or two."

::Odin calculated that out; it was roughly the same time he had been "in business" although he had sacrificed that aspect of his life for a more sedentary way.:: "An impressive amount of time, given your age."

She smiled, a lifetime of memories behind the gesture. "Yes, I suppose it is." Nadia felt older than her 25 years most of the time, due to the fact that she had had to grow up fast when she was younger, becoming an adult well before the age of 18. "Thank you for the complement."

::Although Odin would give idle compliments in certain situations - after all, it assisted in business endeavors, he wasn't prone to idle flattery in general. This was one such situation in which he was impressed. After all, they appeared to be roughly the same age, but she had stuck by a philosopyh and worked towards it.:: "It's well deserved."

Nadia smiled again at his comment. It was something that didn't happen often, someone who respected her work instead of trying demean it. But feeling that the conversation might be going somewhere she wasn't comfortable as of yet talking about, she tried to steer the topic elsewhere. "So what about you? How long have you been, writing, you said?"

"Working for a magazine," ::Odin corrected. He wrote filler, but he wasn't a reporter; he did not have the creative drive nor the interest in taking that on as a career. He was thoughtful, having to consider the question, before replying,:: "For a year now, give or take."

She nodded. "Ah, yes. The mutant magazine, right?" Nadia remembered him speaking about it earlier when they were discussing the place of mutants in the current world society. "Do you enjoy it?"

"Yes, that," ::Odin replied, as it had been a question. In response to the second one, a smile crossed his lips. He lived for his work,:: "More than should be legal, I'm sure."

Nadia laughed softly at that, in complete agreement. She felt the same way about what she did. "Ah, then we both should be locked in jail, yes?"

::Odin was sure from her laugh and the nature of their conversation that her comment was innocent; after all, it was an extension of his remark. The reality of life, the fact that he often wondered *if* he would be arrested for his associations, his job, his very nature, and knowing that he could not maintain his sanity in prison - he had lost so much after a single night with in captivity, how could he survive a sentencing?...the jocularity could not rise in him. He could pretend, but there nothing real behind it, no laughter though he managed to keep the small smile on his lips without letting it bleed into a frown.:: "Not over this, I hope."

"No, hopefully not. Unless the administration decides otherwise." Her eyebrows lifted in amusement, thinking about his comment. Nadia knew she wouldn't like to be jailed at all, for any reason. "Do you think you might be? For other reasons?"

"We'll have to see," ::Odin said, which was a reply to her comment about the administration. He had great trepidation, as nearly four years remained ahead of them, in which Petrie could grow more rabid and Bridge could grow weak. What he said might have one served as a reply to her two questions, but no longer. It wasn't answer enough to satisfy his compulsion. He took a breathe, resisted the urge to close his eyes, and surrendered to honesty as he always did.:: "For associations, if it gets that far. My work is public; I'd be an easy mark."

Nadia nodded slowly. She lived in slight fear every day that something might happen to her own small organization, despite the fact that it wasn't as public as Odin said his was. All it took was a little information to leak out or one person to get fanatical. And it could all be over. "Yes, understandably so."

"It would help if there was some sanity in government," :::Odin remarked, shaking his head slightly to himself. His concerns were realistic, but they shouldn't have to be.::

"Well..." Nadia had had some experience with poorly run government, at least, what she could remember as a child, in Soviet-run Ukraine. She had had many reasons to come to the United States, and that was one of them. "I'm sure there are some sane officials, but perhaps they are being overshadowed by those who are not. But it is still a democracy, for now. And I am thankful for that." She hoped she wasn't being too outspoken or going off topic, but it was something that Nadia felt fairly strongly about.
