Kitty took in as much of her changing surroundings as she could. As the ground began to shake, she had to raise her voice slightly to ask, "How many people are in there?"

"Three," ::Pietro had thought it a fair starting number, nothing too strenuous for a first time. The ground trembled again, but they were only in the early stages of the earthquake.:: "We need to find a computer and someone's medical equipment also."

Kitty looked up at the building. "Anything else?" she asked, wanting to have as much information as possible before things really started moving.

"I put their locations on 'random,' so I don't know where they are," ::Pietro thought that would have undermined some of the purpose. Another mild tremble.:: "The building has seven stories, and ten apartments on each."

Seventy apartments. Kitty's heart was racing and she could feel her chest start to tighten. She was determined not to let her panic show and simply nodded at his information. The ground trembled. Kitty's mind started to race. "Can I go?" She asked, her teeth clenched, not sure if she was supposed to wait for the conditions to become more serious.

"Danger won't wait for you; you needn't wait for it," ::Pietro said, which was a resounding "yes" as far as he was concerned. After she left, he would as well, but wished to give her the head start.::

With an almost animal growl, Kitty took off running. The pressure in her chest was increasing, making it harder to breathe. She rushed into the building and burst into the first apartment. The ground shook, a little harder this time, but still only tremors. She steadied herself and called out, "Is anybody in here?" as loud as she could.

::No answer came from the first apartment, as it was empty.
Pietro waited for her to enter, and then dashed in as well. He would go to the top and work his way down, as was his own instinct.::

There was no answer. The quake hadn't really started in earnest yet, so there was little chance of the three people they were looking for being incapacitated, so she took the silence as evidence that the place was empty. The second and third apartments were also empty. As she rushed into the fourth apartment, she could hear crying, but couldn't see anyone. The panic was closing in on her and her vision began to waver. "Where are you?" She called out.

::Pietro made it to the seventh floor and began tearing through the apartments. Nobody in the first apartment and nothing of value, likewise for the next three. In his race to avoid further quaking, he didn't bother to shut doors, and with each tremble, the doors shook.
The crying came louder, a small child no older than two alone in her playpen in the room furthest from the door. The quaking her woken her and she was frightened.::

"I'm in here!" The voice sounded as scared as Kitty felt. Turning the corner, Kitty saw the young woman. In her fear, she had crouched next to the bathroom sink. Kitty reached out her hand and tried to smile. "I'm here to help you." She said, though she was now wheezing, the panic crushing her lungs. The young woman took Kitty's hand and together, they ran toward the front door of the apartment. Before they could reach it, the quake hit. The floor rolled like waves in the ocean and both Kitty and the woman were tossed to the floor.

::Pietro was in yet another doorway when the the quake hit, and despite it being the safest place to ride out a quake, he sped forward. He heard a child's screams over the sound of trembles, and ran for her. Finding her in the playpen, he wrapped her in a blanket, grabbed her, and held her under his arm to protect her should he fall. The trembles were starting to make him lose balance.::

Kitty's vision was getting spotty and her chest was causing her significant pain. She wondered if it were possible for her to be having a heart attack. She struggled to her feet and helped the woman up. It was almost impossible to stay standing, and Kitty saw that they were closer to an outside wall than they were to the door, so she wrapped her arm around the woman's waist, yelled, "hang on tight!" and took a running leap through the wall. Once outside, she had to crouch down to avoid falling again. "Run!" she shouted at the woman, and the woman ran.

::The wall hangings in the apartment had all fallen, and as Pietro carried the child into the corridor, he had to dodge a falling chandelier. With balance impaired, getting down to the first floor would be tricky, but he was up for the task. Holding her carefully, he descended the staircase: quickly, but more carefully than he otherwise would. One floor down, then the next, and the next...::

Kitty had to basically crawl to make any progress. Back inside the building, she paused in the hallway, listening for cries for help. A piece of plaster fell from the ceiling a few feet behind her. The lack of oxygen from the ragged breathing caused by the panic attack finally overcame Kitty and she fainted. Thankfully, she was already crouched low, so she didn't fall far.
