This was a bit like looking into a mirror, Shade decided. Only that her mirror image was slightly ... off. Looking like her, precisely as far as she could tell, even down to the slightest details, but the movements were still not hers. Similar, but not quite the same. It would sure be good enough to confuse someone who didn´t know her but part of her was finding the idea of tricking others with that kind of amusing. She took a mental note to have a word in private with Morph later, hoping the possibility would arise.
"No." she said. "I was using my powers. I didn´t know what was up with my friend after all. She might have been kidnapped. I just looked into rooms that were opened anyways. It took a while I think." Her memories on that were a little foggy.

"Until what happened?" Kevin said, already guessing where this whole thing lead. His mind was quickly arranging the story in his mind, letting him adapt to it, make it his own story for a while.

"Until she found Manuel," Gambit prompted, knowing, however, that Shade could formulate it with more detail and precision.

Shade shot a short glance at Morph. "Right." she said. "One of his captors had apparently been outside getting some food. I followed him." That was something, she was good at, something her powers were very useful for. Stealthing others - even though not literally in the sense of that far off corner of her powers - and let others open doors. She shortly halted when a new / old memory emerged, triggered by what she was talking about. She had done that before. Following someone to have doors opened for her. Gambit´s brother when Gambit had been in hospital. It happened now and then, scraps or bits of memories coming back like little packeges of memory, waiting to unwrapped. The temptation to follow it was big, but she knew it would still be there later, to explore, so she just hesitated shortly, probably long enough for Gambit to notice but not for Morph. It however distracted her for a moment, shortening a probably more detailed answer. "And I found him." she concluded.

(( at who?.. )) There was a momentary hesitation in Shade's response that Gambit noticed but decided to put off his question for later. "Which is where de problems actually started," he added for Morph.

"Why?" Kevin asked. "What made me follow him?" To be convincing, he needed to familiarize himself with another person's motivation and reasoning.

(Ick *edits*)
"The fact that he seemed to be staying somewhere in the hotel." Shade said and it seemed self evident to her, but then she caught herself, noticing that this was what she thought like, her logic, related to her powers. So she explained: "It´s like...my powers are defensive powers. You learn to use the in a way that you are not noticed." This was more an explanation for Morph now, to help him understand than for the cops. "I was in a way defending myself with my powers. And because opening doors myself would maybe make people notice me and take the only protection I have, I followed this man, because he had to open doors and maybe that would help me. Maybe he would show me where my friend was. It´s a lucky game but I could only stay safe by not being seen. And that also means not being noticed by doors opening for no reason and such."

"Ah," Kevin nodded, grateful for the explanation. "Did the man seem familiar?" he asked, merely wanting to be sure that there were or weren't extra reasons behind the intuitive decision to follow.

Shade did not have to think about that for long. Back then the men had been wearing masks. It has been his voice that had given him away later, but Morph had not mentioned that yet. "No." she said. "I´d never seen him before. Neither him nor the other one that was with him."

"I didn´t mean to, but felt something was wrong so I walked inside using my powers and found the stranger, Manuel." In as much detail as she remembered and thought was safe, Shade retold what had happened at the hotel, about how she had found Manuel, how she had waited for his captors to leave for a moment and how she had then freed him. She also mentioned that before they had left together, she had noticed that the men were the same that had killed someone she knew. She left out the list, not mentioning it, but insisted on how certain she had been about the killer´s voice.
She continued with how she had extended her powers to Manuel, how they had left the room toegether and how she had intended on informing the police about the kidnappers. About how they had had to hide in one of the hotel rooms downstairs because the kidnappers had quickly found their captive missing.

Kevin forgot that he was Kevin. In fact, he was already Shade and probably had been her for a few months already. He already caught himself twice thinking that he was starting to get attracted to Gambit, the way Shade obviously was. He didn't mind; it was all a part of impersonation, at which he liked to believe he was an expert, second to none. In a way, it added to the way he was now moving and talking, quickly picking up the minute details of Shade's behavior.

As Morph and Shade seemed to switch off from the outside world and become enclosed in their own bubble of interaction, Gambit watched them attentively, smoking cigarettes and drinking his coffee. In the end, only the course of their dialogue and a faint trace of intuition still helped him distinguish between two copies of one woman standing in the middle of the old warehouse.
He stood up when the original Shade finished her instructions. "De list," he said firmly, walking over to the two women. "Let's not skip it, it's important. What we need t' establish is dat ya found it an' took it. It had a name of a school friend in it. I retrieved de list an' handed it over to de police. Our conscience is clear, mine included."

Shade had been swaying between being too engrossed and concentrated to mind the fact that Morph had been turning more and more into a copy of herseld and being bewildered by the fact that he was doing it which included a few glances at Gambit of the kind that was usually her own. She was aware that Morph was imitating behaviour or at least thought so, unaware of how much the other one could immerse himself in a role but she had to consciously stiffle the urge to display the very slight oh-go-ahead-oggle-my-man-what-do-I-care kind of attitude she had used to display towards oggling women now and then especially before the amnesia that came with somewhat of a self conscience she could only try to grasp and whose roots were deeper than her memory reached.
At the mention of the list, Shade turned her head, focusing her attention on Gambit. "How did you explain having it?" she asked not sure about that part of the alibi.

Gambit hadn't technically handed the list over to the police yet, but it was only a matter of days. With Rose's participation, the list would be immaculate and the cherry on the cake of the whole affair.
"Found it in your t'ings an' handed it over," he shrugged, since for him rummaging through other people's stuff was the most natural thing to do.
