It seemed like a lot to take in at once. Morph caught the first most obvious thing. "What if they ask me for a demonstration of your powers?" he asked.

"Amnesia," Gambit shrugged, "emotional trauma, ethical reasons, whatever."

"You could go for a block" Shade said. "It will sound believable if you say that the powers are tied to the emotions or something like this. That I can´t use them any more. It´s not even too far from the truth. I had forgotten a lot about them, quite literally."

"Oh, okay," Kevin said. "You should take me to that place, too, so that I could have a mental picture of it." He morphed into Shade as she was now. "So," he then said, adapting his voice to match hers, "I'm out in the city looking for my friend- what did you say her name was?"

"She didn't," Gambit put in, "but nice try." And he really thought it was. It also showed that Morph had at least some experience in adapting to situations where he was a stranger but had to fit in. "As a matter of fact, dis is where we should make de first amendment. Not lookin' for a friend - goin' to meet a friend. We don' want 'em to start diggin' too deep."

Shade had already opened her mouth to speak when Gambit did, saying just what she had wanted to say. So since that was a superfluous thing to point out now, she reconsidered her words. "Wouldn´t that make me look kind of dubious?" she asked. "I mean, that wasn´t the typical kind of area people should hang out in. Maybe it would be easier to mention a friend but use the amnesia card if they ask for details?"
The area the hotel was in had been in some rather run down part of Manhattan. The perfect place for crime of all kinds that she would have fel unsafe walking even by day were it not for her powers.

"Nah," Gambit shrugged. "Come on, ya got Gambit as a friend, so no extra harm in meetin' another friend in some shady place." He did, however, approve of the idea of playing the amnesia card here. With Morph being clueless about most details, it would look perfect.

Shade tossed Gambit a smirk, biting down a playful remark for the sole reason that Morph was around. She didn´t know the guy which meant she didn´t yet fully trust him and whereas Shade before the amnesia had had no qualms to tease Gambit with other people around sometimes, Shade now had become a bit more careful. Because after all one never knew what those other mutants were up to. "I just thought putting it that way would avoid a few more uncomfortable questions," she said with a small shrug, meaning both, the cops and Morph as she guessed Gambit could figure.

"Well, that's what we're after," Kevin said, catching on."So, I walk into that hotel- why would I go there? that my friend is staying there?"

Shade had a blurry memory of this. She had been looking for Shona, who had gone missing and apparently still was. She didn´t rememeber much about Shona though. Just a few glimpses. And there had been something that had led her to believe that she might find her in this part of the city. But that was a different matter.
She gave a small shrug, finding it rather odd to be looking at someone that looked exactly like her. She was briefly wondering whether he was doing that to be able to adapt to her mannerisms better just like she would toy around with her powers now and then or whether he was trying to test how she would react to it. "I thought I might find her there. Or in another hotel. I don´t remember." There was no hesitation between her words. Nothing of the hesitant stammer of someone trying to gather her thoughts. It was at the same time partly the proof partly saying that she thought this was one of the things that should fall under the amnesia thing in their story.

"Fine," Kevin gave a similar shrug, sounding just like Shade. "I don't remember, either. Fine with me."

"Go on," Gambit said, to both Shades. "We're rehearsin'. Where'd ya go after you went inside de hotel? An' most important, why? Dey'll be questionin' your motives at every turn, can bet anythin' on dat."

Even with passing moments, looking at herself basically did not stop being odd. She was well aware that Morph was probably studying her and trying to imitate her from habit. He was adapting to her with his powers probably, much like she would experiment with hers. It was a strange thing to watch indeed. "I looked around." she said, keeping her eyes on ..what looked like herself. "to see if my friend was there. I didn´t find her, but I found another mutant as it turned out. He was tied to a chair and it looked like he had been beaten."

"Did you just walk around the place trying all the doors?" Kevin asked, trying to fit himself in Shade's shoes if he had been in her stead there.

Gambit stayed silent, sipping his coffee and watching the interaction between two Shades. He told himself that he would be satisfied with the result when he would be unable to tell the two apart; so far he could, easily, but this could change with sufficient practice for Morph.
