Rogue absent mindedly fiddled with the straw in her coke as she doodled yet another swirl onto the napkin that was already covered in black biro. She was concerned, for Beth and John mainly but part of her was worried of the Professor's reaction when he found out that she'd betrayed his trust.

John wandered into the bar, a frustrated look on his face. Not noticing Rogue, he slumped into a barstool, a few seats down from her. His lip was bleeding, and beginning to swell already, and all he really wanted was one large glass of vodka. He mumbled his order to the bartender, his eyes down at the counter.

Rogue pushed her empty glass away and looked up to order another one before she saw John. She looked over his cut face and sighed.
'let me guess - another flight of stairs?' she called, 'or was it a wall this time?'

"Rogue, shut up." John mumbled, as the bartender handed him his drink. He took a large sip from the glass, wincing as the liquid made contact with the cut on his lip.

Rogue sighed heavily and moved down a few seats next to John, ordering herself anothe drink.
'Is Beth okay?'

"She`s fine." John said shortly, as he sipped his drink, before pausing. "She wasn`t there, when this happened-" He motioned towards his face.

Rogue nodded silently as her drink arrived, taking a tiny sip.
'Maybe you ought to invest in a first aid kit,' she said, torn between seriousness and joking.

John let out a short, bitter laugh, before he rolled his eyes.
"Thanks for the suggestion." He muttered dryly.

'I tried to sort out a school for Beth today,' Rogue mumbled, 'no-one'll have her without paperwork.'

'I don't want her traceable though, the Professor's going to try and find her probably. Maybe we could give her a different surname or something.'

"Yeah well all Xavier does is track down me, and he`ll find her." John muttered bitterly. He paused, glancing over at Rogue, before he looked back at the counter. "I went to see Xavier."

'What did he say?' Rogue asked quietly, understanding now why she'd heard shouts coming from his office. Whatever the Professor had had to say, she could bet she wouldn't like it.

"He wants her to stay with a friend of his- Some Moira person- Said that she could take care of Beth, so that way she wouldn`t be in foster care. But I can`t just ditch her off with a woman she hardly knows- I`m not just leaving her, like her mom left-"

'Moira,' Rogue repeated with a small frown, 'I've met her. She seems nice enough but I thought she lived all the way over in Scotland; and you're right - we can't just ditch her. Yeah things won't be ideal, but we'll manage - we always do.'

His jaw was clenched, and his hands were curled into fists, inside of his pocket. It took him all of his will to not turn around and yell back at Rogue, but John knew he couldn`t do that. He couldn`t give in, and start talking-

John merely shrugged, as he continued walking. The city was getting less crowded and more run down, as he walked farther. The majority of the buildings were boarded up, or had graffiti written over them.

She hadn't told Erik yet and had no intention, she knew that he would never say it back and it didn't worry her as long as he cared enough to keep her close.
