Alex raised his hand to show that he didn't want to be pushy. "As long as I'm not keeping you from your training," he said. "I already feel bad enough for interrupting you, anyway."

Ty shrugged with a small smile. "Don't worry, the damn block would have exploded anyways."

Alex smiled in return. Typhoid emitted the kind of confident attitude he thought not too many people could pull off nicely; she definitely did, and it became her. It made him wonder that, even though she said she was back-up for the team, she probably had it in her to become a team leader if need arose.
"It's funny, I explode things, too," he said. "What are your powers?"

As usual, that was a big question to answer. She decided to just simplify it, although she was more curious about his powers, just because he was Cyclops' brother. "I can do a lot, but the main part is a very specific telekinesis that turns things to ash."

"Ah," Alex nodded. "So that was what I caught a glimpse of when I walked in," he guessed. In return, he said, "I absorb various kinds of radiation and turn them into plasma blasts. Things heat up and-" he spread his fingers in a quick gesture to imitate and explosion. "Boom." He wasn't showing off with the description, but merely gave it as a simple courtesy - she told him about her powers and he figured it would be fair to share his own.

Ty nodded. "Yeah, you caught me," she joked in a friendly way. At his description of his powers, she couldn't help but question him further, because it sounded as if what he could do was quite different then what she expected. "Absorb radiation? So...you have to be 'charged up' to do it?"

Alex nodded. "That's actually the best part, because I don't have my powers fully under control. And it means I can discharge it all off and be safe for other around me at least for a short while. And then it all accumulates again."

"I have to do something similar," she said, nodding in understanding. "Otherwise my powers build up, make me sick and then explode on me." The last part came out with a partial laugh. "Typhoid fever added to a nuclear bomb. Makes for an interesting day if I'm not careful."

Alex nodded, digesting all this over a moment's silence. It was fascinating - he'd never met anyone with powers so similar to his own - not in their nature, but in what they could do, in how they were supposed to be handled, in those secondary bits that were related to the powers. "How do you manage this?" he asked. "Does training help?"

"Kind of," she said, after a moments thought. "It helps if I expend my power in small ways as time goes by; I can go longer without having to drain my powers in a big way, and still not hurt people. So if I'm training, that counts." She waved a hand at the room around them. "This room comes in handy. I...well, you've got to know how hard it is to let loose when everything around you is real."

"Unfortunately," Alex nodded with a wry smile. "I can direct the explosions, so most of the time there is some safe direction where it can all go, but every time I catch myself thinking that the next time I won't be so lucky." In this aspect, he and Scott were similar - powers of destructive force, very little to no control - but Scott at least had his glasses or the visor to help him hold his powers in check. Alex had no equipment of such kind and this made him constantly think of himself as a thread to those around him.

Ty nodded. "I know the feeling. I can direct mine most of the time but there's no limit to how far I can go if I just cut loose. And I can't completely drain my powers to safe levels without cutting loose, so..." She spread her hands. "I've caused some bad damage before. It doesn't inspire self confidence."

"I'd say you look very confident," Alex remarked. "You give the impression of someone who never gives up."

"I don't know..." she said, after a second of though. "...I guess I just never considered it that much. It's just...how my powers were. Learning to deal with them...maybe it makes it seem like I know what I'm doing." She smiled a little. "You know what I mean?"

"Not yet, I don't," Alex said, displaying some of his optimism. "But, I guess, it comes with every skill? I hope the day will come when I feel some confidence in my powers, but I feel useless and dangerous most of the time these days."
