Elias leant back a little on his seat, but still stayed close enough so they could talk without walkers-by too easily being able to eavesdrop. "Speaking of which," he said. "There were other roles mentioned in the prophecy. Do you think you and the others are supposed to get into contact? To work together?"

"I have no idea," Laurie answered. "And like I said, I can't really talk about the others." Laurie knew that she would be seeking out the ones she knew about, along with leaders of mutant groups and whomever else she could think of that she might be able to influence.

Elias nodded, wondering whether her reply meant she couldn´t talk for lack of information or because she didn´t think it right to talk in the name of others. Anyways, it did not matter for now. "I think the prophecy comes at an interesting time," he said after a moment. "as I just said anti mutant sentiment is on the rise these days. How do you see that? Is a prophecy like this maybe a necessary thing to bring people together? Or can it only harm the mutant community? How do you see that with regards to humans?"

Laurie shook her head. "Based on patterns of human and mutant behavior in the past, it seems like things like this always end badly. Mutants are already up in arms about what was said. Threats are being made. If it was in our nature to bond over things like this, we wouldn't need a peace keeper or a protector."

For him, the whole prophecy was rather fuzzy yet. Elias wasn´t someone who easily believed in such things. He wasn´t supersticious, he would have described himself as a pretty down to earth guy. What he believed in more was what people would make of this. "Do you think your role just applies for mutants?" he asked after a moment, "or do you think you have a responsibility over humans, also?" The X Factor was a magazine mostly bought by mutants of course, but with a mental look at this issue´s overarching topic, this might be an interesting question. Or one to leave out in the final editing, if the answer turned out too harsh, he thought.

"No, I don't believe it applies only to mutants. If this technology evolves, the mutant community will come under attack from the humans," she looked down, she didn't like to think about the details of what all this might mean, of what could happen to them. "There's a potential for problems between mutant groups, which will weaken the community when the humans decide to punish us."

"What beyond that?" Elias asked. He was someone who would see mutants and humans with probably less of a dividing line between them than most other mutants would. They were all the same species to him, with the exceptions that some had some...better equipment so to say, and not necessarily better, rather, additional. His own experiences had taught him to blur that line and if anything, stay wary about both sides just as much as he stayed open for both.
He elaborated: "This technology that was mentioned might not just pose a danger for us, but also for humans."

"Most definitely," Laurie said, nodding in agreement, "But it's only human nature to fear what we don't understand, and when it comes to light that this technology was developed by mutants, we'll all become targets."

This somehow reminded him about what Kevin had said about that story with the murder of the anti mutant activist. One thing happened, they all might ended up being blamed. One thing, but mutants in general would be seen with more suspition because that one case showed how dangerous they were. "What do you think about this technology as such?" he asked afer a moment, leaving out these little things for now, because they were straying too much. "Why would any mutant develop it?"

Laurie shrugged. "I have no idea about the actual technology," she started, wanting to say that she knew the kids involved and that they'd never do anything to hurt anyone intentionally, but she kept to her word about not exposing any information about the others.

She seemed true to her word and that was fine with Elias. He would not have minded to find out the one or other name more, related to the prophecy, but it was understandable she would not disclose them. "How do you personally feel the general mood among mutants to be like after this prophecy," he therefore asked, stirring things into another direction. "Has anything changed? Or do people just keep on living their lives?"

Laurie frowned. "I think it's pretty obvious that, in the mutant community at least, things are pretty tense. The way the prophecy was delivered got a lot of people very upset. The possibility of something bad happening has each group of mutants already pointing fingers at others." She shook her head, thinking about things she'd heard. "We already have so much to worry about that, as a community, we're so easily put on the defensive."

Elias nodded, watching her. "Is that why you have chosen offense instead?" he asked. "That would make you a peacekeeper already, try and reach out, try and show that it´s not about pointing fingers but about not getting upset at each other for nothing. Yet."

"I think it's a contradiction to say one's taking an offensive approach to peace," Laurie said with a smile, "But yes."

Elias grinned at that. "Not necessarily," he pointed out. "not if it´s a move towards trying to change something in a peaceful way. I like it. It sends a good signal to the non-mutant society too, I think."
