Laurie shrugged casually. "I'm not sure," she started, thinking back to Omen's reaction when she'd told her she believed her. "I just haven't doubted it since the moment I heard it. I was there that night, and I just knew what she was saying was the truth." The warm smile returned, "Why do you ask? Is my reaction that uncommon?"

Elias shook his head. "Not really." he said. "You ask a number of people about it and you´ll get the whole range between those who say it´s nonsense and the ones who believe every bit of it. I was just interested how you see that."

Laurie understood. She'd seen a wide range of reactions just at the mansion. "I also believe that, now that we know what's in store for us, we have the power to change things. I've spoken with the girl from Hellfire, and she told me as much. The decisions we make, even on seemingly inconsequential levels, have the power to make tremendous change."

Elias listened carefully. He had a good memory, there was no need to take notes just now, plus, it would make him look like a reporter just there and there were more subtle ways. "I would agree with that," he said, taking out his cell phone which had a voice recorder function. "Do you mind if I tape the interview?" he asked.

Laurie smiled again and shook her head, her long wavy hair sweeping across her back. "Not at all," she answered, "Like I said, I want to do everything I can to help." She waited for him to get settled, not sure how magazine interviews were supposed to go. She had an idea of what she wanted to say, but she also knew he would have questions.

He placed the cell phone on the table and took a sip of his coffee. Elias liked to keep a relaxed atmosphere during an interview, not too keep on having his opposite feel like she was being interrogated. "You said you think that this can still be changed," he said then. "which I believe is something that was said by the girl who made the prophecy as well. What role do you think you have in that exactly, as the peacekeeper. Do you think it fits?"

Laurie's face took on a thoughtful look. "You know, I have no idea. I know that I can make people feel things, so in a literal sense, I could go door to door and make people feel peaceful, but it wouldn't last. I asked her what I was supposed to do, and she told me I would know when it was time." She raised her eyebrows and gave a slight shrug. "Until that happens, I'm just doing whatever I can to keep the peace. I know that things can be changed, and I know that violence is not necessary."

"Violence should not have to be an option, I agree on that," Elias said. "But what was your first thought? I mean, what went through your head at the Hellfire when it became clear to you that this girl was talking about you?"

Laurie drank from her glass as he spoke, then answered evenly, "Honestly, as a teacher at the institute, my priority was to protect the students that were present. I didn't even give it any thought until later. I worried about it at first, but then I had a kind of revelation and accepted it. I'm ready for whatever is coming."

Something about what she said caught Elias´ interest. "A revelation?" he asked, wondering whether there was more behind it than just a figure of speech.

Laurie had decided ahead of time not to share the details of how she turned her power on herself and basically changed her own personality. She could still be honest without those details. "So to speak. I came to a point where I realized that I'd been singled out for a reason, that whatever is about to happen is incredibly important, and if I back out of my role, I might be putting more people in danger."

Elias thought about that, then nodded. "Sounds logical to me," he said. "So is this the reason you came to me? Because you see it as your role to spread the word of peace?" After all, he was working for a magazine and thus for the media which could spread ideas faster than mouth to mouth.

Laurie laughed. "When you put it that way, I sound like a greeting card," she said, her tone lighthearted. "But in a way, yes. I want people to know who I am. Like I said, I'm not sure what my role will be, but if someone out there needs me, I want to be available."

Elias grinned at that. He had merely used a language that seemed to be matching her own, but he didn´t say that out loud. Then he became a bit more serious again. "What about your own safety?" he asked. "The mutant community is spreading news of this but outside of it, there are haters too. And they, too, would buy the magazine." He felt reminded of something that Xavier had thought to be a concern a while ago and was wording that concern himself now. "Aren´t you afraid to show your face as a part of this prophecy so openly in a time where anti mutant sentiment is on the rise?"

"I understand the risk, but I have no choice but to take it. I have faith that there are other people in the community that will protect me, and I'm not afraid." As she spoke the words, she realized that this was the first time in her life that she honestly was not afraid. She'd spent so much of her life scared of anything and everything. It was refreshing to be free of that.
