Erik Lensherr, aka Magneto, was currently lounging in a chair at the bar of the Hellfire Club. It was his usual hangout, and the apartment he had in the City was not too far at all. It was a pleasant bar that was mutant-friendly, and first and foremost, it was an excellent recruiting ground. Nearly all of the mutants that visited the Hellfire were sympathetic to his cause, his fight. It was good to be around like-minded people.
And so he sipped his drink and watched young mutants mingle, some recognizing him and talking with him briefly.

Lorna had only been in Hellfire once before, before she'd gotten her powers. It was a novelty, to be in a public place where she knew she could use her powers in small ways and not really have anyone think twice about it. The Professor had been teaching her to control them, and she was much better at it then she had been. Even so, she could still see the magnetic forces in the air, looking like waves of light, and it made her vision off otherwise. It was distracting, and add to that, she was no where near perfect with her powers. There was sort of an unspoken rule against calling attention to yourself as a mutant, she found out, and using her powers in public was new to her. It made her nervous to use them here, but it was also exciting.
She didn't use her hand to push the door open, she simply pushed forward on the metal of the door handle to make the door to the bar open. Same thing with pulling out her chair, when she found a small table to sit at. She was hoping she might see Betsy; the girl had suggested Hellfire when they talked but she hadn't had the chance to invite her before she came down here.
Lorna wasn't quite old enough to drink, technically, and so to be safe she didn't, instead choosing something fruity with Red Bull added to it to sit and sip.

As the self-proclaimed "Master of Magnetics," Erik felt a hum of metal in the club, and he frowned; it was not his doing. Turning, he felt and *saw* a young woman pull out a chair with her powers and sit. She had power over metal? That was an opportunity Erik could not pass up.
Picking up his scotch, Erik headed over to her table. "Excuse me," he said politely, smiling at her. "But may I sit here?"

Lorna looked up from stirring a lime wedge that was floating in her drink when she heard someone talking to her. That same person, it turned out, created the weirdest magnetic waves about him she'd seen, in her limited experience. He was also old, white haired, and...A flicker of worry and confusion crossed her face, partly at the waves going crazy and partly at other things, and then she realized she was probably being really rude. "Um, sure."

Erik smiled at her and sipped his scotch. "My name is Erik," he said, holding out his free hand for a shake.

"I...know," she said after a second, holding out her hand because he was. "I mean, um...well, you're kinda well known," she finished, giving herself a mental kick for sounding rather lame.

"Yet you, of course, are unknown to me," Erik said gently with a small smile. "I must admit I'm rather curious, especially with powers like yours."

Her shoulders straightened a little bit at that. "I'm...Polaris," she said, trying out giving a mutant name instead of her given one for the first time, or at least the first legitimate time. She still thought her introduction to Odin didn't count.

"A very fitting name," Erik said with a small smile. "In that case, call me Magneto. I am very impressed with your level of magnetic control."

"Um...thanks. I'm not that practiced, though." Lorna shook her head, a little embarrassed at the compliment alone. "Not in public."

"I can teach you to work on it, if you'd like," Erik suggested with a small smile. "Skill comes with lots of training after all, right?"

She regarded him curiously for a moment, then decided to be blunt, for once. "Why me? I mean, I know my powers...are similar, but you just met me. It's a little strange."

"I feel a certain kinship with mutants who have similar abilities," Erik said with a simple shrug. "Like cousins within a very large family."

"I guess I'm not really that connected," she said, shrugging her shoulders as if it didn't matter, but it did. Belonging was a big deal to her, and she was new enough to having a mutation that she still felt like a human in a mutant's shoes.

"You will be, in time," Erik assured her. "We are quite a large family, after all. There are over a million of us."
