Name: Tobias Young
Alias: Aether
Ethnicity: Caucasian/Mutant
D.O.B.: October 14
Place of Birth: Forest Grove, Oregon
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 155 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Grey
General Appearance: Tobias is an essentially average young man; nothing about him is immediately striking. He has a healthy color and is clean-cut, keeping his hair neat and always remembering to remain clean-shaven with the exception of weekend camping trips. There are times when he is covered in scrapes or bruises from pushing himself too hard.
Personality: The word that most often comes to mind when describing Aether is “eager.” He is both eager to please those around him and eager to prove his worth. He is a hard-worker and is difficult to discourage; this leads to him taking on more than he can handle, and the result is often bruises and scrapes along the way. However, it takes more than that to sour his generally upbeat disposition.
He enjoys camping, hiking, and the outdoors, which is a result of his childhood in one of the most breathtaking states in the union, as well as a byproduct of his powers. He often feels the need to commune with nature. Everything equal, he would have become a storm chaser or an environmentalist. Pollution greatly disturbs him.
He also secretly admires telekinesis and wishes he had that as a power. He cannot explain why; he simply finds it interesting.
Powers:
Elemental Manipulation: Aether has the ability to animate and manipulate the four classical elements of earth, fire, wind, and water; at present, he cannot create any of the elements from nothing and must use what is around him. As such, his power is limited by the prevalence of any of those elements around him.
-He spends most of his time trying to use wind currents to fly, to limited success. He also attempts to use winds to mimic telekinesis, to no success whatsoever.
Elemental Resistance: He also possesses resistance to elements which he has animated, allowing him to survive attacks reigned down upon others; however, he does not possess resistance to the four elements if he is not controlling them.
Increased Durability: Aether possesses mildly increased durability, which helps him to absorb impact from falls. Considering how many bruises he amasses with his durability, one can only imagine how badly beaten he would look without it.
Background/History: Tobias was born to loving parents, Zachary and Hannah Young, as their first and only child due to his mother’s decreased fertility. He was doted upon, and in return, did everything he could to please his parents. When he was older, he learned of several miscarriages before and after he was born, which only caused him to double his efforts to make his parents proud.
His family owned a confectionary and bakery in Forest Grove, which led to him having a place to spend his time after school, and kept him out of trouble. When he was too young to be left alone, he spent his afternoons at the store doing homework. When he was older, he began to work there in a limited capacity, simply enough to help.
To balance the sugar to which he was exposed on a daily basis, his parents took him camping in Oregon’s natural beauty often, which developed into his favorite hobby. He lived for summer vacations and longer camping trips.
When he was fourteen, his powers developed. There was no earth-shattering moment which accompanied either the development or the realization. Instead he was out on a hike and managed to keep the rain and wind away from him by concentrating. Mutation was nothing shocking to his family; his uncle was a mutant, who had married another mutant, and as a result his parents welcomed him with open arms. He did research on the topic, realized he was an “elemental” and chose his mutant name based on a suggestion from his uncle who was a Greek historian.
Although his parents and he had heard passing references to a school for mutants in New York, no serious consideration had been given to attendance. He liked being with his family and his friends, attending the same school he had for two years. It was only over the summer when murmurs of a referendum for mutant registration swept through Forest Grove and the rest of Oregon that his parents insisted on him attending the boarding school. Unable to argue, he was delivered into the care of the Xavier Institute.
