"I don't know about honoring anyone, but..." She paused a second, finding words. "I'd like to think my mother gave us those names."

::That was similar to why Pietro had removed Magneto's surname as his, although borne from hatred rather than love. His response was automatic,:: "That makes it valid."

"Probably," she acknowledged. "But I'm not sure I want to identify with that woman either," she continued, her tone making it clear that she wasn't speaking of her mother.

::The line of traffic moved a fraction, and Pietro briefly tapped the gas pedal.:: "Does love win over hatred?"

"I don't know," Ty admitted quietly. "I never knew my mother."

::Neither had Pietro, and as his mother had renounced his father's name, there had been no such equation to his decision.:: "Are you having second thoughts?"

She thought about that for a long minute. "Maybe a little," she said, finally. "Second thoughts about identifying myself with a family I know nothing about."

"I know only a little about this," ::Pietro said to her, and tapped the gas pedal when a lane opened.:: "Do you want to hear it?"
