'Determined enough' was a fair enough answer; Gambit hadn't expected anything more. "Okay," he nodded, accepting it, and reminded, "Your shot."

::Pietro nodded once, both to acknowledge that it was his shot and to conclude that part of the conversation. He lifted his cue and aligned his shot, which resulted in no additional scoring and only a minor displacement of his balls, and fortunately did not scratch. Whether it was simply poor placing of the last ball or a break in frame of mind from the questioning, he could not say, but would claim the former.:: "Yours."

Gambit's next two shots were successful, and he pocketed two balls before letting the third one stop rolling just before it would fall. The aim of the first game was never to win, but to get acquainted with the opponent.

::Pietro, not of the same observational nature, was playing to win, though this was not as simple a game for him as basketball would be. Once Gambit had missed his third, he began to shoot again. It was a social game, however, and Pietro wanted to try to be friendly, and thus asked the first question which might not sound ridiculous.:: "Are you still dating Shade?"

Gambit could be rather inquisitive when it came to others, but never assumed his own life was anybody else's business but his own. However, from the small experience he'd had in talking to Pietro, he'd learned that being blunt wasn't the most efficient way to act around the man. Maybe joking wasn't, either, but he tried anyway. "Why, are you interested in her? Or in me?" he gave half a grin, raising one brow slightly.

::Humor was also not the most efficient way to behave with Pietro. As with many other aspects of a healthy personality structure, he lacked a sense of humor. Particularly when it involved relationships, where his individual code of honor held strongest. He was in a relationship, he loved Rossignol and would not dishonor her with another. He knew of Gambit's proclivities, or believed he did, from conversations with Scott, and they didn't suit him.
Beyond that, there was the fact that *Shade* was hardly someone over whom he would pine. Perhaps had they not gotten off to the start they did, they might be friends. But his reality had no room for "What if?" questions, and none involved romance with her. To the question, he shook his head.:: "No. I just live with her."

Gambit was still unfamiliar with Pietro's way of reasoning to see how the man's answer justified his interest in Gambit's dating Shade. Even if the latter had been nothing but an attempt to lead a social conversation...
"In that case," he said, "I believe it shoubbe irrelevant whether I am still datin' her."
