It is an election year in-game, and election season is upon us. This thread will provide everyone with in-game information regarding the status of elections, and will be updated when more information is revealed, or linked to threads regarding the election when such threads occur.
We have no incumbant candidates, but are coming out of a Democratic Presidential Office. Congress is split down the middle, Republicans and Democrats, with no majority.
Democratic Party Candidates:
President: Donald Pierce (played by Donald Sutherland)
A wealthy human, in his mid-sixties, from the North East, whose family made its fortune under similar means to the Kennedy family (that is, bootlegging among other not quite legal activities). He was born into his fortune, and had nothing to do with how his family's fortune was made.
He developed an interest in politcs early in life, and ran for one of the U.S. senate seats from his home state of New Hampshire as a young man. He has been a member of the senate for thirty-five years, leading several committees, and he is a centric liberal, as well as a mutant supporter. Some of his policies are as follows:
-Opposes the Mutant Registration Act
-Supports the existence of the Cure but was appalled at the usage of it as a weapon against those who would unwillingly take it.
-Supports expanding Affirmitive Action and Discrimination Laws to include mutants.
His other beliefs tend to remain in track with the Democratic liberal party line. If you have questions, please email me.
Vice Presidential Candidate: Henry McCoy
Our one and only Beast has been recently chosen as the Vice Presidential Candidate to run on ticket with Donald Pierce. He has worked in government for years, the last few as the Secretary of Mutant Affairs. His identity as an X-Man is secret, but he is certainly pro-mutant.
Republican Ticket:
Presidential Candidate: G. W. Bridge (played by James Earl Jones).
A human candidate in his early-sixties, who has dedicated his life to the American military in intelligence gathering for the army. He comes from three generations of high-ranking military officials, and grew up as an army brat. In the previous Republican administration, he served as Secretary of Defense.
His policies regarding mutants:
-Favors the Mutant Registration Act but nothing further on that front.
-Opposes civil discrimination against mutants.
-Believes that the military has a need to use the Cure against mutants who are committing crimes.
-Favors different standards for mutants in terms of military and government service.
Otherwise, he is a cenrist Republican, and is a bit to the left of his party's standard platform. For specifics, please send me a message and I will be glad to reply.
Vice Presidential Candidate: Judge Richard Petrie (Played by Chris Cooper).
Petrie stands to the right of the political spectrum, and balances the Republican ticket. A man in his mid to late fifties, he has served twenty years on the bench, before he was appointed head of the Special Commission on Mutant Affairs, and was later replaced by Henry McCoy. In his intervening time, he has worked with the U.S. Attorney General's Office. In his time working wit mutants and hearing cases, he has developed a dislike of them, and has advocated several times for Registration, as a first step to segregation. He also believes in expansion of the Cure and genetic testing for pregnant women to know whether or not they will have mutant children.
News of the choices has been announced a week ago with the political conventions. Debates and scandals will follow.
