Even though Lance did have some things to do in Philadelphia, things were not as gratifying in terms of new impressions and interesting events as he had hoped they would be. He gave Herald a promise that he'd drop by again as soon as something of importance came up, but left Philadelphia nonetheless.
He was now back in the New York City - a place he was sure always had something happening, which meant he'd find something to do for his liking. However, he avoided thinking of returning to Xavier's school. It just wasn't a place for him.
His duffel bag over his shoulder, he walked into the Hellfire Club, a place he'd heard about but had never gotten to check out during his last stay in the city. Looking around, he decided to get something to drink first and then plan what to do next.

(Couple days after 'And the loser returns' and all following threads.)
With his bruises and other wounds from the fight with Wolverine healing, and Lucy's voice still nagging him to take the damn asprin, and put the f*cking frozen peas on his face, John was in a somewhat foul mood. He need a break, but after running into Rogue in the city, had no intentions at walking aimlessly around. Bookstores couldn't keep his attention, so finally John muttered a 'screw it,' and headed off to the Hellfire Club.
It had been a good while since John had been to the Hellfire. Too much had likely been happening, and the few friendships he had now becoming awkward and strained, that John hadn't had a fun night out, or anything even resembling that, for months at least. And that was exactly what John needed now. Well, that, and getting a couple shots of what ever into him. So, he made his way past the partying mutants, to the bar, plopped down on an empty stool, and ordered his drink.

Sitting down by the bar, Lance ordered a beer and flung his duffel bag onto a stool next to him. Not so much as to keep anybody from taking the place next to him, but mostly to keep an eye on his things. He looked around the place. It seemed okay, spacious enough for his liking, and although he wasn't a dancefloor fan, he would probably drop by every now and then.
He noticed a guy by the bar not too far away; there were marks on his face that looked like bruises a couple of days old, healing already. Lance held his eyes on him for a second, then looked away again. Wasn't his business, anyway.

Glancing over, John saw a man turn his head away. Raising an eyebrow, he made no comment and instead turned his head to face forward again, a somewhat dull look on his face. His drink was then set down before him, and John lifted the glass, before proceeding to down a good portion of it.

Drinking his beer, Lance stared at the bartop, thinking. He had had plans to arrive to the city, take a look around, find a place, find something to do. So far, he'd gotten only past number one and didn't seem to be too successful at taking a look around.
He felt too lazy to get up and walk around looking; he was just off the bus. The only people to talk to were the bartender and that guy. Lance considered his options... Bartenders usually knew all kinds of information.
"Hey, do you know any places here I could get a cheap room for a few nights?" he asked the bartender. Just browsing through yellow pages could be sufficient, but perhaps the man knew any specifically good-cheap-easily-found places; Lance hoped for the latter.

John glanced over at the guy, who was now speaking to the bartender. Snorting into his drink, John gave a roll of his eyes, before butting into the conversation. "Its f*cking New York City. Everything's expensive here-" He said, as the bartender had opened his mouth to speak. Folding his arms across the top of the counter, John pushed his drink gently back and forth.

Both Lance and the bartender turned to look at the guy. The bartender had actually been going to reply something along those lines, too, so he just kept silent.
"I wouldn't know," Lance shrugged. "I've just arrived. Well, considering it's summer, I might just sleep in the park," in fact, he had a small amount of cash on him but it seemed like a funny idea.

"Benches f*cking mess up your back, but be my guest-" John said, picking up his glass in a lazy manner, and taking a sip out of it. The parks weren't actually too bad places to sleep, just as long as it didn't rain, or some annoying kid poked you or something.

"I always thought the opposite," Lance shrugged again. He drank some of his beer. "What, you know any good benches around here?"

"No." John answered, looking over at the guy. "They all have either too much bird sh*t, or gum on them. Slides in the parks are better. You know, on the swingsets? They beat benches, any day."

Lance chuckled. He was rather amused. "Okay," he said, "sounds like a good plan. As long as the slides got some action to offer with that, I'm all for it."

Giving a short nod and shrug of his shoulders, he took another sip of his drink. "I think I could offer you a better place than a slide, but that depends on you."

"Oh yeah?" Lance asked. "Now that almost sounded like I had to start behaving." He downed half of the remaining beer and glanced at the bartender, but that man seemed to already have busied himself with another part of the bar.

"More like misbehaving." John mumbled underneath his breath, before he downed the rest of his drink. "You ever hear of the Brotherhood?"

The name did sound familiar; Lance couldn't tell whether he'd come across it while living at Xavier's, or was it simply some general mutant-related rumor stuff. "Yeah, I guess," he said. "Didn't it have something to do with the Cure wars or something?"
