((OOC: This is Part One of Xavier's Adventures in Walking, which is an April Fool's Day Epic. This particular thread is closed.))
::The X-Men had detected mutant mischief on behalf of the Brotherhood, and thus they had sprung into action. After the encounter with Wideawake, and the damage that had been done to the students, only adults had gone. With Logan away from the mansion, Pietro and Wanda had gone in his stead. Attacking a shopping mall; the Brotherhood had achieved far better plans in the past, but that is what happens with disorganized leadership.
The X-Men had done Xavier proud, stopping the Brotherhood members through the power of cooperation. Most of the fighting took place on the main level, while Xavier monitored from the upper level, helping to coordinate and overall warning the others to attacks. All had been rounded up, except for one; a teleporter who appeared behind Xavier undetected, and then did the unthinkable: he shoved Xavier down the escalator, wheelchair and all. Scott then blasted the man through a wall.
To say the experience was shocking and unpleasant would be an understatement. Xavier was taken to the medical laboratory and Henry, to deal with any injuries which had arisen, including broken bones, heavy bruises, and cuts from the metal, some of which were infected.
However, it was an opportunity for Henry to impart a point to Xavier, one which he had mentioned before: there was nothing physically wrong with Xavier’s body; the spine was not shattered in his brother’s body, as it had been in his own after the car accident. Yes, there was atrophy, and he would never run a mile, but what kept him from walking was psychosomatic. After encouragement, he began physical therapy to regain the power to walk, when the casts were off.
The physical therapy was grueling; Xavier often grew frustrated, being treated so feebly, but after weeks, then months, he shed the wheelchair, the casts, and could walk, nearly under his own power. He required a cane, but that was nothing to being able to stand on his own feet.
If his mood had been happy before the accident, he was ecstatic all of the time once he finished physical therapy. He felt more alive than he had in over a decade, and he wanted to share it with everyone. He held classes outside, he bought a new car to drive, he was able to spend more time with the students. Everything was coming up roses.::
