We have a number of pregnancies occurring in game right now. I want to remind everyone that pregnancy is a lengthy, serious process, one that has a delightful end, but is not always pleasant every step of the way.
We are a movie-based universe game, which means that the rules of the real world apply here. We may be mutants, but that does not make us Gods, despite the title of the board. There will be unpleasant symptoms: morning sickness, swelling, loss of energy, mood swings due to hormones, etc. As the child continues to grow, the mother will be unable to engage in activities she previously was able to, particularly physical tasks.
We are also a game that takes place in accordance with the calendar, and as such your pregnancy will take nine months. If the child is born before coming to full time, there will be the same risks and complications that would arise from premature birth in the real world.
Your unborn child will not give you enhanced superpowers or new powers. If anything is to happen regarding your powers, your child will weaken your abilities due to the energy it is drawing from your body. Also, while pregnant, please keep in mind the potential danger to your child when using your abilities.

Also remember that the result of a pregnancy carried to term is a newborn baby. Child-rearing is also serious, and your character’s life will change drastically as a result of having a new life completely dependent on you. Your child will age at the same rate as the rest of us, a day for a day, a year for a year. Your newborn child will not have mutant powers; those will take time to develop, so please do not introduce a superbaby.
A word on miscarriage and abortion: Like pregnancy and child-rearing, these are serious matters. Miscarriages do happen in game, but if a pregnant character is to have one, please make it realistic, and keep in mind the emotional repercussions, as well as the physical ones that might arise depending on the nature of the miscarriage. Please do not use miscarriage as a way of ridding your character of a pregnancy because you have grown bored. Make it fit into your character’s storyline. As for abortion, our game takes place in the United States were abortion is legal, and in New York State especially, there are avenues open to women older 18, as well as teenagers below the age of consent. If your character is considering an abortion, please have her go through the series of thoughts that would accompany an individual in the real world, and keep in mind the general time-table for when abortions are safe and legal. No eight-month abortions, please.
Pregnancy can be a wonderful way to advance character development and story-lines. If you go this route, keep in mind what has been said on the subject, and keep it real.
If you have questions regarding in-game pregnancy, please do not hesitate to send me a message.
