FAQS

Q: What is the plot of the game?
A: In the two and a half years since Magneto’s war at Alcatraz, times have changed considerably, and yet, in some ways, have failed to change at all.
Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, a school and safe house for mutants, and the home of the X-Men, had closed following the apparent death of its HeadMaster, Professor Charles Xavier. When he returned, he forged a hopeful alliance with his closest friend turned nemesis: Erik Lehnsherr, the mutant terrorist known to the world as Magneto. The School reopened its doors, and has been open for the past two and a half years. The school is widely known in mutant circles, but to the human population, it is nothing more than a private preparatory school.
Over a year ago, there was an attempt by an anti-mutant faction known as Project Wideawake to exterminate the mutants of America by attacking Washington D.C. The X-Men and students came to the rescue, defeating the mutant-hunting sentinel robots, and this caused a shift in public opinion. The X-Men were seen as heroes, and people began to divide mutants into “good” and “bad,” rather than paint them all with the same brush. For a time, this worked to the X-Men’s favor, particularly with the Brotherhood all but disappeared.
Nothing good lasts forever. As the year progressed, news report after news report chipped away at the ground gained for mutant support. Renegade mutants attacking widely-populated mutant areas. Mutant gang wars. Disappearing humans and mutants alike. And reports of a mysterious drug that has been killing innocent people, and in some reports, changing them into mutants themselves. Dubbed “Apex” by those who’ve seen its effects.
Add to that a failing economy and people’s natural instincts kick in: they find a scapegoat.
The fall election was a bitter one, between Republican G.W. Bridge and Democrat Donald Pierce, particularly for their Vice Presidential Candidates. Pierce chose mutant Henry McCoy, which won him nationwide mutant support, and was seen by many political analysts as suicidal on his part. Bridge chose Judge Richard Petrie, whose opinions on mutants could best be described as “barely-contained hatred.”
Bridge won by a landslide.
With the economy worse, and the news digging up any story on mutants to blow out of proportion, public opinion of mutants has continued to decline. Rumors have spread through the mutant community like wildfire: Petrie is trying to convince Bridge to reintroduce the Mutant Registration Act.
Paranoia has sunk into the mutant community, causing mutants to move underground, leaving places once viewed as safe. Several instructors and students have left Xavier’s for those very reasons. Other mutant groups have likewise disappeared.
The X-Men remain vigilant, but there is worse on the horizon.
Magneto is reforming the Brotherhood. Some are joining after experiencing harsh prejudice for the first time in their lives. And Magneto has his eye on this “mutant-making drug.”
Worse yet, Weapon X under the leadership of Colonel John Wraith (William Stryker’s second-in-command), has been steadily amassing power this past year, behind closed doors. All beginning with salvaging information and technology from the now debunked Project Wideawake.
Unbeknownst to any, they have been responsible for the mutant attacks, the kidnappings, and the creation of the drug, Apex. Wraith intends to succeed where Stryker failed: by making mutants useful to his cause, and destroying the rest, by any means necessary. Several of the kidnapped victims have already been brainwashed into Weapon X agents.
The new political regime takes control in two weeks: What’s a mutant to do?
Q: What do I need to do to register?
A: On the main page there is a link to register. Click there, and follow the instructions.
Q: Who are the mods?
A: Moderators and Administrators are identified as such underneath their character names in each post they make.
Q: Where do I modify my profile?
A: Once you have registered, you will see a menu bar on the top of the screen. Click on Profile, then click Modify Profile, and change what you like.
Q: How do I choose and set my avatar/userpic?
A: Before you go to modify your profile, upload your chosen userpic to an image site such as
www.photobucket.com. Be aware: Proboards doesn't accept images hosted on Imageshack. Copy the image link they provide you with, and put this link into the space for it when you modify your profile. Maximum size for userpics is 100 X 100 pixels, but you can make it smaller, depending on the avatar height and width you enter in your profile. What userpic you use is up to you, but we do ask that no nudity be used.
Q: I can see stars above some players' avatars, what do those stars mean? I want a star, too, how do I get me some?
A: Stars indicate the level of the player based on how many posts that player has made. The only exception to this is moderators or administrators. The more you post, the more stars you get.
Q: I see that some players have images in their signatures, how do I put those in mine?
A: Upload the signature to an image site such as
www.photobucket.com, and copy and paste the codes that have the image tags around them into your signature area on your profile. Be aware that Proboards doesn't accept images hosted in Imageshack for some reason.
Please keep in mind that the maximum size allowed for signatures is 375 X 150 pixels. This cuts down on load time for those with slower Net connections.
If you have questions on this, please private message a moderator.
Q: How do I make a clickable link in HTML?
A: Use the following:
[ url= WEBADDRESS.com ] TEXT TO CLICK HERE[/url] (Without the spaces)
Q: What is private messaging (PM)? How do I private message someone?
A: A private message is similar to sending an on-site email. To private message a player, click on their character name, then click Send Personal Message.
Q: How many characters can I play?
A: No more than 10. There are a few rules that we have regarding this, because of past problems:
-No more than 10 characters per individual player (and yes, we can tell who is playing whom).
-Anyone who currently has more than 5 characters set up for themselves needs to actively play those characters in order to acquire more, up to the maximum of 10.
-Anyone who had reached maximum must decide which 10 they want to keep, and delete the rest, or turn the character over to a player with less then 10 characters.
-If you max out your 10 characters, deleting a character only to create a new one is NOT allowed. Once you've created a character, those are the ones you play. Choose wisely.
-If any character does not log in for a month, we will give that person a two week warning and then delete the character. This goes for ANY character, primary or not.
Q: Do I have to create separate accounts for different characters?
A: Yes, you do, unless the character will only be used for one or two posts, or will only be used temporarily. See question below.
Q: Is there a general “non-player character” account that can be used for characters where I only have to make one or two posts?
A: Yes. We've created an NPC account to use for characters that don't need permanent accounts. It is free for anyone to use.
Username: npcgeneral
Password: Due to past issues the password is kept with the moderators only. If you need to use the NPC, please PM a mod for the password.
Q: Do you accept original characters? Non-Marvel characters? Non-X-Men characters? Evolution characters?
A: We accept most original and X-Men characters. Since this is a movie based RPG, characters that are fantastic (vampires, incarnations of Death, aliens, etc.) are not usually accepted. Non X-Men characters (Spiderman, etc.) are not usually accepted since this is an X-Men RPG. If you wish to use a crossover character as a model, please speak with a moderator for approval. Characters from the various X-Men shows or universes (616, Ultimate, Evolution, Animated Series) are acceptable provided they are not fantastic.
We do not accept characters from other films or fandoms. This includes mutant-related shows such as Heroes.Q: Do same characters from different realities count as different characters, such Slym from the future / Cyclops from Earth 616?
A: No.
