Powers: empathy (is able to perceive and influence people's emotions up to a very strong degree)
Power limitations: cannot switch off his emotional perception on his own, so Professor Xavier helped him to install mental blocks to prevent him from hearing emotional noise from people. This, however, does not stop him from using this side of his powers at an effort.
Special characteristics: has a heart condition which causes a heart failure at even very weak stimuli. Because of that he
- has taught himself since early childhood to never get emotional so as not to risk a heart attack at the surge of hormones associated with emotional states
- keeps a diet that does not overtax his heart
- has a special set of exercises that help him stay fit without affecting his heart; practices yoga
- has learned to subdue and limit his feeling of pain, otherwise the influx of hormones in response to pain can shut down his heart.
Is generally friendly and helpful, but very reserved and prefers to keep to himself whenever possible. Plays a guitar.
Michael comes from Toledo, OH, from a working family, has parents and two younger siblings. His family runs a small car repair shop, and Michael used to help out both in paper work and in the repair jobs when he lived at home.
His life at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters tends to be centered around his abilities - he's good for people to talk to, and he held several councelling sessions after the Project Wideawake events. He also participated in the battle in Washington, being included in the team of empaths and telepaths to take the commanding center under control.
He developed an affection for Maya Sinister (and that before she merged with her darker half and took the last name "Sinister"), and the two were in a slowly-but-steadily progressing relationship until her merge. They tried to sustain the relationship as Maya joined the Brotherhood and left the Institute, but the Brotherhood matters soon escalated, making her leave back to California and break the relationship.
Michael took his time to recover from the break-up, having undergone a small surgery in the meantime, after which he has resumed his work at a car shop in Westchester and is preparing for college in order to study Psychology.
