At least he was admitting it. He was still having his elbow hooked with hers and Shade losened the grip slightly, seeking to entwine her fingers with his. There was no need to comment on his words as she was sure Gambit knew she had noticed that already. "I shouldn´t have slapped you." she said. "I didn´t mean to."

"Yes ya did," Gambit said. "Don' worry 'bout it."

Weird as the situation was, Shade couldn´t help but chuckle slightly. He was right of course, in that moment she had meant it, although she had acted on impulse. "All right, I won´t." she said, turning slighly as they walked, so she was still holding his hand, but walking backwards now and could see his face. "Let me help you getting back." Still walking, she moved closer, still facing him, then leant to kiss the corner of his mouth. She didn´t know whether he was in the mood for kissing, but her instincts were prompting her to try. If he wanted to catch on, she would, if not, she would give him a little more time to think.

In the first second, Gambit just smiled at her small kiss and didn't react much, but then his hedonistic side demanded a response, and he gave it, turning to Shade and kissing her back - as much as he could without stopping their walk, only slowing down a little.

Seeing him smile and then feeling him respond, Shade felt relieved and she mirrored the smile, continuing to walk, but still keeping the kiss, deepening it as far as she could. She didn´t really know where she was walking, but didn´t care much either, as there was no danger of running into some car up here - just into some other pedestrian but that didn´t matter.

Gambit felt he was about to get carried away, and he didn't want that. At the moment, for him, there were better places for intimacy, both physical and emotional, so he needed to get away from the bridge and go someplace. Where - he had no idea.
Pulling back from the kiss, he entwined his fingers firmer with Shade's and lead her to a spot near the exit from the bridge where he had parked his new bike.

Shade broke away somewhat reluctantly, but his body language told her he was in a better mood now and it told her he wanted to get somewhere for more privacy and that was something she didn´t mind at all.
She kept walking alongside him, her hand in his until she saw where he was heading. So he had done what he had said he would and bought a new bike. She hesitated in her step briefly, feeling a slight tingle of anxiety take hold of her at the sight. She remembered what she had told him back in hospital - that she wanted them to ride a bike again, before it could become a fear. Therefore, she just hesitated briefly, although he would notice it, before she kept walking towards it.

Gambit felt her hesitation, but didn't stop, merely let go of her hand and walked to the bike. He knew she always voiced her concerns and objections, so unless she did so now, he knew she would agree to a bike ride. Her hesitation was perfectly understandable, therefore he asked no unnecessary questions about it.

The fact that Gambit did not ask anything or react to her hesitation, told Shade he understood her there. Concern about her brief reluctance would have been superfluous as she had already made up her mind she was not willing to let her memories scare her in that respect. She remembered something she had told him in Tunisia when she had asked him to get back to the market after the kidnapping: ´if a horse tosses you off, get back into the saddle, before you no longer dare.´ It had been a weird metaphor back then, but now it fit.
She didn´t ask where he wanted to go. It didn´t matter.

Gambit stopped when he reached his bike; unfastening the second helmet he'd brought just in case Shade arrived, he offered it to her. "Wanna go somewhere?"

Shade took the helmet, looking up at him and nodded. "Yeah." she said. "only I don´t care much where to. Somewhere with less people."

"I really got nowhere t' go," Gambit admitted. Going either to his apartment that now felt as if a totally uncovered place or to the Hellfire Club, an even more public place than the Brooklyn Bridge, were both bad ideas. "A hotel?" he suggested, getting on the bike and taking his helmet.

His reply surprised her. Shade had expected him to either suggest his appartment or whatever place just came to his mind. She was sure now that his anxiety and earlier lethargy had to do with this ´having nowhere to go´. Was he on the run from someone? Was he not feeling safe at his place any longer? She nodded. "A hotel sounds fine." she said, climbing on the bike behind him, holding on around his waste. The only reason why she did not ask what he meant about his remark was that they were already about to leave and because he had made obvious he did not want to talk about things right now. Maybe he would later.

Gambit took his cellphone out. He dialled a hotel information hotline, enquiring about available hotel accomodations. Finding a few, he zipped his jacket, put his helmet on and pulled out to the street, heading to Mid-Manhattan.
