The only reason why Gambit allowed her to pull him off the railing and, swinging his legs over to the other side, followed her was that he figured he'd spent too much time sitting there already and he needed a change of place.

At least Gambit wasn´t keeping up his stubborn behaviour to an extent where he would have just ignored her dragging which Shade noted with some satisfaction. She had felt that they had to get somewhere else, whereever, just move a little.
They had been rather close to one of the lower archways of the bridge and Shade, still her hand clasped around his arm, walked towards it, shoving him towards the middle part so he had his back against the stone wall, not violently so, but with some force, her hand flat on his chest, looking up at him, the same annoyed shimmer still in her eyes, reflecting in her eyes. "What am to do to clear your head, Thief?" she demanded as if she was considering wheter a slap or a proper snog would have the better effect.

"No idea," Gambit said.

Had she been able to think reasonably now, Shade might have been somewhat shocked at what she was about to do. She felt at a complete loss what to do. It was as if he was in some sort of lethargy where she couldn´t get through to him and after more than a week of missing him, being worried and the previous night where she had wished for nothing more than Gambit comforting her, his behaviour was making he desperate. Before she was able to stop herself, she raised her hand to slap him across the face. There was not enough force behind her hand to let it become a full fledged blow, but if he chose not to react and stop her hand in midair, he would definitely feel it.

Gambit's head turned slightly at the slap, and he closed his eyes for a second. She must have been having a really hard time with him if she felt she needed to slap him. But slaps rarely affected him in the way to motivate him to be more talkative.

Shade had not really expected him to try and hold off her hand, but she had hoped that she would get some sort of a reaction from him. She was trembling slightly and not even noticing, caused both by her disbelief at her own action at her being at a complete loss about what to do. She stared at him with a mix of anger and helplessness, slightly mingled with a silent plea. Why didn´t he talk to her?
Gambit´s head was turned slightly at her slap and although the light was somewhat dim, she could now see something she had not spotted before. The cut was already fading, but it was dark across his cheek and thus clearly visible. In a sudden rush of confusion and self accusation for not having noticed before, she raised her hand again, but not to slap him. Her fingers brushed over the cut as if she wanted to read by touching where he had gotten it. "Talk to me, Gambit." she said, her voice a lot less angry and an edge concerned, but not the mothering tone he would have scolded her for.

Gambit felt Shade touch his freshly gained scratch and turned his head towards her, leaning into her palm. He opened his eyes to look at her. "What's dat gonna solve?" he asked.

His words showed that he was still reluctant to share what it was that kept him so distracted, but at least he responded in some way now and answered to her touch and Shade felt part of her helplessness subsiding. "I don´t know." she said, not moving her hand, but running her thumb across his cheek, keeping the eye contact. Of course she didn´t know, as he did give her no insight into his thoughts.

Shade had to suppress the urge to roll her eyes at him. "I told you that. Sometimes it helps. It´s either talking or distracting or brooding, no other way to deal with it. And brooding won´t get you anywhere either." She was seriously wondering what it was that was causing him so much trouble. Normally, Gambit wasn´t the type of person to brood for too long.

Gambit grabbed her by the elbow, hooking his elbow with hers, and walked on. "Let's go somewhere."

She tossed him an irritated glance, clueless about what he was up to now. "Okay..." she said in a way that made clear to him she wouldn´t object but that the topic wasn´t called off to her either.

"I called ya 'cause I wanted t' be wit' ya," Gambit said while they were walking along the bridge. "Not 'cause I needed t' talk an' ease my mind or somethin'."

His words were affecting Shade and she wondered whether he felt cornered by her attempts to get him talking. "I know." she said. "but I´ve never seen you that distracted, like..." she was looking for words. "...you were barely there with me. And right now there´s nothing I want more than being with you." She turned her head to look at him, noticing that it was partly the emotional uproar of the previous night speaking that had made her so desperate to get a reaction from him. Some closeness. A sign that he was with her, that he had missed her and cared.

"I still am," Gambit replied, still looking ahead of him. "Sorry. Need some time t' get back - my thoughts are elsewhere."
