"I don't really have any preferences," Emily said. "As long as it's not too spicy... though there was a time when I couldn't stand salads and other things with lots of water in them. Eating food I could feel down to molecular level was... weird."

"Sounds like it, though I can't imagine- I don't usually try to eat microchips or something." He grinned at her, then ordered pasta alfredo with shrimp when the waiter came up.

Emily ordered pasta with cheese sauce and a glass of pineapple juice. Then she leaned back in her seat, looking at Jarod. "How do you feel in a large computer store?" she asked.

"Whoa....somewhere between "kid in a candy store" and "plummeting down a cliff." I lose myself pretty fast. Most of the computers in stores don't have Internet connections, but usually one of the salespeople has a cell phone that does," he said, rolling his eyes.

"If I space out and just let my power do what it feels like, the computers all flicker and Boom!..." he mimicked an explosion. "Power outage."

"So you can let your power act on its own?" Emily asked. It wasn't something that had ever happened to her - her own power was tightly connected to her conscious actions.

"Yeah...sort of. It's like when you think too fast and your mind just starts to skip from thought to thought as fast as it can go. My mind skips from bit of information to bit of information until whatever piece of technology I'm using just can't support the speed anymore," he explained, trying to put something he'd never thought about into terms that would make sense.

"And what happens to your head at such amounts of power use?" Emily asked. "That is, if you've already had that... experience."

He laughed. "Well, it doesn't explode if that's what you mean, but I can get kind of spacey for awhile."

"Well, yeah," Emily shrugged, chuckling. "Seeing as you still have your head with you, I meant something like the latter."
The waiter brought their plates and Emily's drink and left.

"I have my head with me? My God, I meant to leave that at home!" He mock panicked.

Emily pretended to be shocked. "YOU! were going to take me here without your head on?!"

"Well, I have to make an impression SOMEHOW!" he said, pretending to pout.

Emily laughed. "You don't have to," she said after a while, when her laughter subsided a bit. "But surely there are less... uh... lethal ways of doing it?"
