(( from: the Rec Room - Boredom vs. Piano ))
Emily took great care about changing for her New York trip. She didn't want to risk getting tired feet or catching a cold. Traveling in a car made her decisions easier, though.
She went outside, looking for Jarod's car, like she had any idea what it looked like.

((Neat pic, BTW))
Jarod pulled into the driveway and got out of the drivers side of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix. His parents had offered him something Italian but he hated the fact that his family chose to flaunt that they were well connected, and had picked this out himself, choosing something nice but normal, not extravagant. He was satisfied with it, though his friends had ribbed him for not getting something like a Masarati.
"Hey!" Seeing Emily come out, he signaled to her, feeling faintly nervous.

(( thanks 8) I'll be adding them to most of my posts... for the sake of realism ))
Emily walked over and got in. "Wow," she said, sincerely admiring the car, "that's something." She fastened her seatbelt.

((Realism... *laughs at the minor joke*))
He smiled at her, starting the car and driving away from the Mansion. It was a relief to hear a compliment about it, after all the jokes that had been pulled on him. "Thanks."

They made it to Manhattan in less than an hour, and the closer they got, the more interested Emily became in the scenery behind the windows. She had never arrived to the city from the north, and seeing so many bridges at once was unusual to her.
"So where exactly do we go, to begin with?" she asked as they were crossing one of the bridges.
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 17:30
"Well," Jarod shrugged slightly. "I'm not quite sure; I still don't know what you like to do. We could do the touristy stuff, museums and buildings and whatnot, or just start at Times Square and walk."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 17:34
"No museums, please, I beg you," Emily laughed. "But buildings... Central Park... something along these lines would be cool."
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 17:39
"Well....ok," Jarod said, musing a little as he turned off the bridge and into NY proper. "We could hit the Empire State building. Or if you like amusement parks, we could try Coney Island. As long as we don't get anywhere near Ground Zero, I'm good."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 17:41
"Well, I'm not going to an amusement park in a skirt," Emily said. "What's so bad about Ground Zero, other than the obvious?"
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 17:45
"My uncle died there," Jarod said, before quickly changing the subject. "Empire State it is, then."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 17:51
Emily bit her lip. The earth could very well swallow her up that instant. "Sorry," she said, staring ahead of her. Since he'd changed the subject, she decided not to dwell, either. "Have you already gone up to the Empire State?"
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 17:54
He shrugged. "No big deal. As for going up to Empire State, I've stood in front of it while my friends went up and attempted to test the theory that if someone throws a penny off the top of the building it can kill someone by the time it hits the street." He grinned. "We were being stupid, but thank God it doesn't work."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 17:57
Emily chuckled. "Were you the test-subject for that lovely experiment?"
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 18:06
Rolling his eyes, he gave a matching chuckle. "Yeah, and one of the jerkoffs got a brilliant idea to throw down a whole roll of pennies...without taking them OUT of the roll. He had good aim too. I had a goose egg on my head for days." He finally came into Manhattan but hit a traffic snag and had to stop dead. "Damn."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 18:10
"Oops," Emily giggled, "that must have been one of those extremely rare moments in history when a theory proved wrong was a source of major relief..."
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 18:27
"Yeah, that and I got paybacks later. He took a short dip in the Hudson....when I pushed him." Jarod grinned and started to creep the car forward as the traffic cleared.
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 18:30
"Absolutely not vindictive, are you?" Emily teased.
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 18:56
"Me? Never." Jarod grinned at her, turning onto 34th St. "Empire State is along here."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 19:00
Emily tilted her head a little, leaning her head against the window to look up at the skyscrapers looming above the street. "We're lucky with the weather today," she remarked. "I wouldn't care about the rain, but I prefer sun on the photos I take."
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 19:02
"You're right," he observed, maneuvering through the slow traffic. "Do do photography a lot, or just for fun?"
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 19:08
"A lot, but just for fun," she grinned.
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 19:10
"Ah, have it both ways, then," he said, teasing at her.
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 19:15
Emily smiled at him, then leaned to the window again. "Hey, here it is," she said, noticing the Empire State near them.
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 19:20
"Yep, now the next problem is finding a place to park," he said, scanning the street for an entrance to a parking ramp.
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 19:22
"Is it at all possible here?" Emily said, studying busy Manhattan traffic.
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 19:24
"It is if you can find an underground parking ramp," Jarod said, still searching as he drove. "I don't park on the street, one stupid driver and your car gets creamed."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 19:25
"I wouldn't know," Emily replied. "I can drive, but I don't have a car."
Posted by Tron on May 28, 2007, 21:04
He nodded. "There are days I wish I didn't. The insurance kills." He spotted an entrance ramp and took it, pulling fast through traffic. "Hang on."
Posted by Aqua on May 28, 2007, 21:17
Emily wasn't sure if he meant that last bit literally or not, but he seemed to be a confident driver and she didn't mind the speed at which they were maneuvering through the traffic. Her mind was already partly going up to the top of the Empire State, and she got distracted.
