::The Professor and Strype had taken the 12:30p.m. train, which had arrived at Grand Central Station at 1:02p.m. The trip had been relatively uneventful, with the exception of the young man who refused to vacate the handicapped seating. That had been resolved quickly, and soon enough, there they were. The Professor wheeled beside Strype as they moved through the historic train station.::

"What a jerk," she muttered under her breath. Her train of thought was lost, however, when they exited the station, as her jaw dropped at the sight of the city. It was a rush of sounds and sights, assailing her senses all at once.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:02am
"He's of little consequence," ::The Professor replied, although he was sure she didn't hear him. She was too absorbed in the experience of Grand Central. He remembered the first time he had come to the City with Erik, soon after Erik had come to America. There was something magical about the first trip to this City.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:08am
"Wow," she said, trying to absorb everything at once. She caught herself rotating, and quickly turned back to the Professor. "Did you say something?"
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:12am
"I didn't." ::The Professor replied with a shake of his head. He watched as she looked around with wonder.:: "Shall we go out exploring?"
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:19am
"Sure, where do you suggest?" She had absolutely no idea of where they could go first.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:25am
"There are a number of museums. Madame Tussaud's wax museum is a very fun one. Or the Museum of Natural History. Or the Museum of Modern Art. To name a few. I also want to buy you a purse, while we're here."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:30am
"The Museum of Modern Art sounds cool, and you don't have to do that," she said, blushing. She looked down at her feet.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:37am
"The MoMA it is, then." ::The Professor said and began wheeling through the upper level terminal of Grand Central Station. On the other side was the exit onto Lexington Avenue, which would get them out onto the street.:: "And I'd like to; I know I don't have to."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:44am
With a sigh, she began to follow, half a step behind him as he led the way. "You're going to spoil me rotten," she said finally.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:46am
"Spoil, perhaps. Rotten, I don't think so." ::The Professor replied as they headed up the ramp towards Lexington Avenue.:: "I've found that the students at the Institute learn how to manage money fairly well. I've leant out the credit card many, many times and nobody has ever made me regret it."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:54am
"I guess now wouldn't be a good time to ask you if I could get a job?" She asked, hurrying alongside him up the ramp. It was hard, trying to navigate amidst such a large group of people. She'd never been in such a large city, so it was something she'd never had to do. Bumping into a guy her age, she almost lost her balance as he swore at her and moved on.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 2:58am
"Although I'm not in a position to forbid you from getting a job, I would recommend against it for a number of reasons." ::The Professor said. He slowed down, realizing that she was already getting disoriented. He had spent so much time here in his youth that he forgot how awe-inspiring it could be for someone unfamiliar with such size and population density.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 3:01am
"Sorry," she said, hurrying to catch up. "What were those reasons?"
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 3:06am
"The first is that it's not necessary. Secondly, you have a lot on your schedule related to your studies. Thirdly," ::The Professor's voice dropped to a lower volume, "Considering your recent tiger-related incidents, the frustration both on the job and of balancing a job with life could lead to something we would all like to avoid. And fourthly, many places in Westchester wouldn't take your resume into consideration when they find out that you're boarding at the Institute."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 3:10am
She frowned. He was right... but the idea that places wouldn't even consider her because she lived at the Institute, it was irritating to say the least. "I assume other students have tried to get jobs in Westchester, and failed miserably?"
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 3:13am
"In past semesters, yes. One attempt at the CVS half a mile from the school was a particular failure. And that is why, among other reasons, considering the recent chaos, I am discouraging attempts to get outside jobs. As long as nobody expects a plasma screen television in their dorm room, provisions will be met easily." ::The Professor pushed through the doors out onto the street, blinking his eyes as they adjusted to the sudden sunlight.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 3:21am
She laughed. "Oh yes, I'm sure us pampered runaways come to expect things like that." She shaded her eyes, trying to see everything, yet blinded by the light.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 11:22am
"That's why there aren't money problems." ::The Professor said. He blinked once more, his eyes adjusting to the brightness outside. The MoMA was several blocks over, and he mentally made his map of the City. He reached out to take Strype's arm, helping to move her out of the way of another young man in a hurry. Then, he turned his chair and started down the sidewalk towards the museum.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 2:39pm
Still blinded, she felt the Professor take her arm and move her out of the way, of what she saw a second later to be another person speedwalking past. "Woah...oh," she said, partly from her almost headlong crash, and partly from her eyes taking in the city. She had no time to stop and stare, the Professor was still holding onto her arm, and he was determinedly navigating through the enormous rush of people.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 4:37pm
"We'll be able to sight-see later," ::The Professor said apologetically, as he continued to lead her through the crowds of people, down the block. He didn't want her to get lost, and people in a hurry weren't respectful of confused teenagers or old men in wheelchairs, particularly when they were in one another's company. Once they cleared Grand Central's immediate vicinity, the crowds would lessen and the walk could be a bit less hurried.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 4:41pm
"Sorry," she apologized, trying to keep in step with the wheelchair's progression through the crowd. It was crazy, she'd never seen so many people packed in one little area before... squeezing and pushing, all in a hurry to get somewhere.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 8:29pm
::When they turned the corner and started up the next block, the difference was visible. Far less hustle and bustle, due to fewer people. The Professor stopped wheeling, letting her catch up.:: "I'm sorry about that rush; I didn't want us to get seperated on your first trip."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 8:58pm
She nodded in understanding. "I know, and it's my fault for acting like a bug-eyed rural chick," she said shrugging. "If I didn't have to stand and gawk with my mouth wide open, we wouldn't have to worry about getting separated." She grinned widely.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 9:02pm
"If the general public realized that my chair rolls and bumping into it might lead to an accident, we wouldn't be seperated either." ::The Professor replied, his tone not ascerbic. He began wheeling, slower now, that they weren't about to be lost in a crowd of people.:: "And it's normal to gawk the first time. There's a lot to experience."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 9:16pm
She rolled her eyes. "That's people for you though, isn't it?" It was just like people to not give a damn about others, too worried about themselves. The crowd was thinning out, and she could stay beside the Professor without any difficulty.
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 9:55pm
"They're inherently good, merely blinded by small scopes of perspective," ::The Professor replied softly as they continued to move down the sidewalk.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 10:08pm
She sighed, a small smile on her face. "I wish I was as optimistic as you, I was always told I'm too cynical for my own good."
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 10:16pm
"I prefer to think of it as bringing balance to the universe, rather than mere optimism. If Professor Lehnsherr's world view were to dominate, we would all be in trouble." ::The Professor replied with a smile.::
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 10:26pm
Her eyes darkened for a moment, but she willed the thought away. It was a day for relaxation and fun, not brooding. "I really think you do bring balance," she said thoughtfully. He'd calmed her down on a number of occasions, and eventually stopped the almost daily crisises that occured on campus. "Maybe it's the calming effect you have, I guess."
Posted by The Man on Feb 26, 2007, 11:06pm
"Perhaps," ::He agreed. That calming presence was what had prevented a number of problems, both with students and the government.:: "Or perhaps simply nature putting everything into order."
Posted by Strype on Feb 26, 2007, 11:22pm
She shrugged. "Whatever it is, it works, so don't stop." She caught up, and had to adjust to the slowing speed of the wheelchair. She looked around, and spotted the banners labeled 'Museum of Modern Art'.
Posted by The Man on Feb 27, 2007, 12:49am
"Yes'm," ::The Professor said, as he looked up at the banners before the large building. He turned his head to face her.:: "Shall we?"
Posted by Strype on Feb 27, 2007, 9:24pm
She nodded, excited. "After you, Professor." She made a sweeping guesture in the direction of the museum's doors.
Posted by The Man on Feb 27, 2007, 10:34pm
::The Professor hit the automatic door button and watched as the doors slowly opened. He nodded his head in place of a bow of gratitude and wheeled through the doors. On the other side, he waited for her::
Posted by Strype on Feb 28, 2007, 12:20am
She followed behind him, looking around her in awe. "It's big," she said simply.
Posted by The Man on Feb 28, 2007, 2:20am
::The Professor nodded, watching as she looked around, as she took in the area for the first time.:: "Very."
Posted by Strype on Feb 28, 2007, 5:02pm
"Where do you want to start?" She asked after a moment, still absorbing her surroundings.
Posted by The Man on Feb 28, 2007, 5:28pm
"First we need to get admission tickets. Then a map. And," ::The Professor said with a smile of excitement.:: "Starry Night is on loan, so we might want to begin there."
Posted by Strype on Feb 28, 2007, 5:33pm
"No way, they have Starry Night?" She stared at him, jaw dropping.
Posted by The Man on Mar 1, 2007, 12:51pm
::The Professor nodded; he had seen an article about the limited time display in the paper a week ago.:: "I'll go get our tickets."
((OOC: They did six months ago, although I think it's been returned now. But there's no harm taking things out of proper time.))
Posted by Strype on Mar 1, 2007, 12:53pm
She nodded, watching him go over to the desk to purchase the museum tickets. Now she took the time to look around, craning her neck and trying to see everything at once.
((That's awesome, too bad I live about a state downward...))

::He wheeled over to the ticket counter near the back of the museum lobby. It had been a long time since he had last been here with another person and he just hoped that she enjoyed herself. When it came his turn, he purchased their tickets, took a map, and then wheeled back over to her.:: "Ready?"
Posted by Strype on Mar 1, 2007, 4:58pm
whirling back around, she smiled broadly. "Yep!"
Posted by The Man on Mar 1, 2007, 7:25pm
"Then let's go," ::The Professor said, gesturing towards the entrance to the body of the museum. He was happy to see her so excited.::
Posted by Strype on Mar 1, 2007, 7:35pm
She walked towards what looked like the building entrance, keeping in step with his wheelchair. It was so exciting, she had never been in such an amazing looking museum.
Posted by The Man on Mar 1, 2007, 7:36pm
::He smiled at her as they made their way into the interior of the museum. When they reached the ticket taker, he relinquished their tickets and then put the stubs in his pocket. He handed her the map.:: "Guide us."
Posted by Strype on Mar 1, 2007, 7:56pm
"Are you sure? You've probably been here more than once, you know where everything is," she said, after accepting the map hesitatingly. She studied it for a moment.
