Monet's brow furrowed. "and that would mean that all of us would have to register? What does that even mean?" She didn't mean to sound arrogant, it was ingrained in her personality to think she was exempt from certain things.

::If there had been any shred of doubt that she came from blue blood, it evaporated with that question. Odin maintained his patience, although having lived his entire life without privilege, he thought little of it.:: "Anyone with an active mutant gene would have to register, if the old text of the Registration Act were resurrected. Name, address, powers, likely criminal record and job, possibly affiliations. Apart from all of inherent civil liberty violations, it has the potential to be abused very quickly."

Monet looked away and thought about what this man had just told her. She shook her head in disbelief and sighed again. She was then struck by a thought. "I'm sorry, my name is Monet." She said, earnestly apologetic. She realized how annoying her ignorance must be, and was ashamed of adding bad manners to that.

::The name could be a mutant title, given that it was a namesake, but it could likewise pass for a birth name. Odin briefly tuned into his tracking sense, and was assured that it had to be a birth name. Perhaps the upper-crust had yet to do what came naturally to so many other mutants. But he put those thoughts aside as well.
He held his hand out for a handshake, which was proper, and introduced himself.:: "I'm Odin."

"It's nice to meet you, Odin." She said, shaking his hand. "I'm sorry I have so many questions. My father's a politician, I guess growing up around it kind of turned me off." She looked at her beer again and finally decided to take a sip. It wasn't bad. "Or maybe money and status made me think I was above it." She added, looking down. She was realizing recently just how ridiculous her views were.

"It's nice meeting you too." ::Odin knew nothing about her beyond this conversation. He recognized neither her face nor her name, and not having a surname, didn't know what her father's job was. He recognized the attitude, but appreciated that she was coming down from it a bit.:: "Not to pry, but where is your father a politician?"

Monet smiled. She appreciated politeness and general good manners. "My father is an ambassador. He's stationed here in the States now. I was born in Bosnia."

::That explained why Odin had never heard of her; he'd had no occasion in life to familiarize himself with ambassadors. Bosnia, however, was an interesting place to have been born, and he wouldn't have pegged that had it not been mentioned.:: "I imagine the international circles must have different concerns, despite being stationed here right now."

Monet looked away, her relationship with her father not necessarily a painful subject, but not her favorite. "I wouldn't know. We're not close." She replied.

::That was a common affliction, and Odin was somewhat interested to see that it transcended economic boundaries. He changed the subject, as no purpose could be served by focusing on family issues. He noticed her relative age, that she had to be younger than him, and made an educated guess.:: "Where do you take classes?"

Monet looked at him, surprised. "Columbia." She said, then added curiously, "Telepath?"

"No," ::Odin replied with a shake of his head. There was the obvious point that if he were, he could have found that bit of information easily enough.:: "Deduction, that's all."

Monet smiled. "I'm not used to being around other mutants." She explained, and took another sip of her beer.

::Odin took from that she didn't often come to Hellfire, which further explained why she was unfamiliar to him in passing. Not that he wanted to think of himself as a "regular" at any bar or club, but such were his growing patterns.:: "We tend to make interesting company."

This actually elicited a laugh from Monet. "That's good to know." She said. It wouldn't be difficult to improve on her regular company, though her experience with Julian had not been very impressive.
