Shade gave a chuckle, but had anyone who knew her well heard it, he or she would have notived that it sounded rather forced. Her heart beat had toned down a bit, still she was far from relaxed. With one ear, she was still listening and she decided she would give these people another 20 minutes and then get the two of them out of here. Better to stay in hiding till the coast was clear. "Sounds like a plan." she said.

::Manuel had difficulty understanding how she could pretend to be so upbeat in a time like this. His powers told her that she was not upbeat, and was in fact only pretending, but that in itself was beyond him.:: "I think I should hitch up with other mutants, and find safety in numbers."

Shade no longer maintained eye contact, but was staring at a random point somewhere near the door, half drifting into her own thoughts again and at the same time trying to remain focussed. For a moment, Manuel´s words seemed somewhere far off and she needed to concentrate to put sense into them. Then she nodded. “Yeah.” She said. “luckily we´re not the only ones and there are people that can offer safety.” She was referring to the Institute of course, not thinking into any other direction, since thinking of the Brotherhood or similar groups had not been a way out for a long time ever since she had decided against it.

::While it had not occurred to Shade that Manuel could refer to the Brotherhood or another equally nefarious organization, it had not occurred to Manuel that her thoughts might turn to Xavier's Institute. Apart from being far too old for furthering his education, he had a temper, and little by little had been prodded over to increasingly radical thought. There were times when Magneto's words had resonated with him in the past, and with his kidnapping, he had defintive proof that it was mutants against humans, them or "us.":: "We just have to find them."

The „we“ was a strange thing to say, Shade thought, or maybe it just came across as strange. Maybe it was usual for people to bond in a situation like this, she didn´t know. “We?” she therefore asked, raising an eyebrow at him questioningly. “For me, the search is over already. I found my people.” My people to protect me and to associate with. Several people close to me. All of them mutants. No Brotherhood.

::Manuel was quick to make presumptions, and thus he had thought she was in need of a place to hide, in need of safety as he was. Apparently, that had been incorrect, and she was with the very organization he hoped to find, so she thought. It fit his impression, that she was out, liberating people.:: "Maybe you can show me around then, sometime."

Had this situation been any different, Shade might have wondered whether Manuel´s reply was a hit on line or whether he was indeed merely trying to bond, holding on to a stranger that had just saved him. She gave a slight shrug. "I can do that." she said, not thinking into the direction of Brotherhood as she said so. "I´m sure if you want to, you can stay there, at least for a while."

::Still not aware of any miscommunication, and why would Manuel be as he was far too old to be a student, he nodded. Were he not angry and in pain, perhaps he would have smiled.:: "Good. Thanks."

How much time had passed already, Shade wondered. A few minutes? Enough time to try and get out? Her reason told her yes, but her gut feeling told her no. And she had always been one to rather listen to the latter. Just a little longer. Just to make sure. "No problem." she said and continued, mostly because talking chased away some of her fear and uneasiness. "if you don´t mind the occasional teenage fight, it´s a nice place to stay."

::For the first time, it occurred to Manuel that she and he might not have the same "place" and "affiliation" in mind. Particularly as he did not know the Brotherhood to have many teenagers affiliated with it. He queried,:: "Teenage fight?"

Shade scowled slightly and tossed Manuel a glance. "Sure." she said. "What do you expect from a school?"

"School?" ::Manuel asked, confused. Yes, he was tired, and therefore a bit slower on the uptake than he would otherwise, but he was surprised to be this far off base from her.:: "What school?"

Shade´s frown deepened slightly in confusion. She didn´t draw the necessary connections in full extent, her overtaxed mind only recognising that here was some sort of misunderstanding, that he was obviously talking about other people than her, but not thinking Brotherhood right away.
However, somewhere in the back of her mind, a small warning lamp started to flicker. She knew near to nothing about this guy, she should be careful about what infomation to deal out and what to keep hidden. "A refuge." she therefore said, her reply revealing no names, nor locations. "A school where people like us can feel safe and learn."

::*A school?* Manuel thought to himself; he had heard rumors. Had he been that far off base from her? Evidently so. He shook his head to himself and pushed up onto his side.:: "I thought you were with the Brotherhood."

Despite the tense context of the situation, despite her still underlying anxiety, nearly fear and her jumpy attitude at the moment, Shade had to seriously bite back a chuckle. "No." she said, determined, not able to completely hide the mix of surprise, bewilderment and amusement in her voice, speaking normal volume all of a sudden instead of keeping her voice down. She noticed at once, and went back to her near whisper from before. "Do I look like Brothrhood?" she asked, an eyebrow raised, not sure what answer she expected and whether she should feel offended by whatever Manuel would reply.
