Out in the grass (transferred)

COPYCAT
It was a sunny, lazy kind of day, so Vivian contented herself with lying on the grass, basking herself in the sun. She felt like one of those iguanas that sunned themselves on rocks.
She was in her normal form; the pale skinned her was rarely used nowadays. Everyone had been really accepting of her true blue self, so she saw no need to hide. Not nearly as much, anyways. Sure, it might be different once she stepped off these grounds, but she wasn't in any need to go anywhere.
With a sigh, she stretched out her arms and put them behind her head.

AQUA
Emily walked out, wanting to catch some sun instead of sitting in four walls all the time. She noticed Vivian on the grounds and walked over to her.
"Hey," she said, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt had walked out onto the grounds. He didn´t have anything to do and had been unsure about what to do with the day. The grounds were not too crowded and he was thankful for that. He wasn´t used to crowds, they made him feel uncomfortable. When he looked across the grass he saw the blue skinned girl he had met in the kitchen a few days before.
He watched her for a moment, wondering whether she would rather want to be alone, then walked towards her, not wanting to scare her when he suddenly plopped into existence next to her and thus he didn´t use his powers.
"Hallo." he said, when he knew he was in earshot. "How are you?"

COPYCAT
"Hello," she said to them both. "I'm good, and no, you're not interrupting anything." She looked to Emily, and then to Kurt. "How are you both doing today?"

AQUA
Emily glanced at Kurt with a smile and sat down next to Vivian.
"Bored," she said honestly.

COPYCAT
"Nothing better to do today?" She asked. "I feel the same. No classes, and everyone who isn't busy doing something doesn't want to be bothered," she said, shrugging. "Might as well relax."

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt sat down on the grass. "There´s not much to do." he said with a shrug. He had been a little bored as well.

COPYCAT
She looked to Kurt. "I have an idea, if you don't mind," she said, smiling shyly at him.

NIGHTCRAWLER
She returned the smile and shook his head. "Natürlich nicht." he said in German. "What is it?"

COPYCAT
"Well... normally I do it by accident, but... would you let me copy you?" She asked, feeling a slow blush beginning to creep into her cheeks. She'd never asked anyone if she could intentionally copy their powers, she'd always just done it by accident. Some had been fascinated, and others... didn't like it, to say it lightly.

AQUA
Emily just nodded. It sounded like fun, and she was curious what the outcome could be.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt saw Emily nod and nodded too. That should be interesting, he thought. And besides, she had mentioned her ability to copy others and their powers back in the kitchen those few days ago. He was curious to see it. "Sure." he said.

COPYCAT
With both their reassurance, she felt relieved. Then, she took a deep breath, and leaned over to Kurt. She reached her arm out, touching his arm with one hand, and closed her eyes, concentrating.
It was easy to accidentally copy someone, and almost a different thing entirely when doing it on purpose. After a few seconds, her blue skin turned almost indigo, her white hair shortened and darkened, her fingers and toes changed, and a tail ripped it's way out of the back of her jeans. She was the exact replica of Kurt.
When she opened her eyes, they were yellow. She looked at her fingers and toes, and then at the tail that was wrapping itself around her arm.

AQUA
Emily gasped in surprise. She has never seen shapeshifters in action before.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt had watched what she was doing, interested in what would happen. He didn´t even realise his jaw had dropped. The girl had turned into a replica of himself, yellow eyes, three fingered hands and tail included. "That´s amazing." he said baffled.

AQUA
Emily chuckled and tilted her head to the side, trying to see if there were any differences between two Kurts.

COPYCAT
"Meine hose..." she said, inspecting the back of her pants. Her voice sounded exactly like his, with the thick german accent. It took a second for her to realize what she'd said. "I speak in German," she said in awe.

AQUA
"Do you copy half of the brain, or what?" Emily laughed, incredulous.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He just sat and stared. He had not seen a shapeshifter do something like this, although he had seen Mystique copy his voice before.
"Kannst du...can you copy my powers too?" he asked, switching from German to English quickly.

COPYCAT
"I can copy down to DNA, I think," she said thoughtfully, as she inspected her three-fingered hands. "And I think my telepathy helps...but I take on personality traits and such for awhile sometimes," she admitted.
She looked to Kurt, and nodded. Closing her eyes, she concentrated. And, with a puff of air, she teleported a few feet away from them, still sitting on the grass. "Amazing," she said excitedly.

AQUA
"How long can you keep that copy?" Emily asked.

COPYCAT
"Well, I can keep looking like this all day," she said, walking back over to them. "But I can keep the powers and everything for...forever, I guess. I copied my friend's ice powers a few years ago, and I still have them."

AQUA
Emily giggled nervously; she found it more terrifying than funny. "So eventually you can have powers of anybody on Earth?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
He was still slightly irritated to see a copy of him sit just a few paces away from him and wraped his tail around his feet slightly nervous.

COPYCAT
"I guess," she said, shrugging. She saw the way Kurt was looking at her; he was nervous, probably by her carbon copy of him. Slowly she shifted back into her own form, as if easing back into a well worn and well-known glove. But she kept the tail, just changing the color back to her lighter shade of blue. "I'd rather not walk around with a hole in my pants," she said, blushing slightly.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He smiled. "It matches your skin." he stated. "and it´s practical when you want to scratch behind the ear."

COPYCAT
"It's something one definitely has to get used to," she said, matching his smile.
In another puff of air, she teleported again, this time sitting in a tree above the two of them. "Oops," she said, grabbing the trunk for support.

NIGHTCRAWLER
From her reaction he knew that teleportation had not been intended. "Take care" he said, craning his head. "It can get nasty when you don´t know where you´re going."

COPYCAT
"Thanks for the tip," she said, wrapping her tail around the branch. Concentrating, she teleported back down to the ground in front of them, and sat down with a plop.
"Did you get a little dizzy when you first found you could teleport?" She asked.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He nodded. "It happened all the time." he said. "It wasn´t easy to control when I found out about it first."

COPYCAT
She smiled. "Good, then I don't feel so bad. How long did it take for you to get used to it?" she asked curiously. "And what did your family do?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
He thought about it. "It happened step by step" he said. "it took some time, so... I don´t really remember. My family..." he had grown up without his family at the zirkus. "the people who raised me were like a family for me. They got along, after a time."

COPYCAT
"Who raised you?" He didn't know who his parents were? Considering the fact that he looked similar to her, and her own parents had shunned her, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"I don´t know my parents" he said. "I grew up in a circus in Germany. They were my family."

COPYCAT
"I'm sorry," she apologized. "If it makes you feel any better, my parents kicked me out when I was fifteen, and my mutation happened."
She gave him a small smile. "But at least you had people who cared about you."

NIGHTCRAWLER
He felt sorry to hear about that and briefly wondered how many of the teenagers here had had similar experiences. "It was a good time." he said. "Don´t feel sorry about it. I´m sorry to hear about your family. They didn´t understand it."

AQUA
Emily listened to their conversation silently. These were times when she felt ashamed for having grown up in a family with her parents and her younger brother and for the understanding and acceptance from her family when it came to the manifestation of her powers.

COPYCAT
She held her blue hand in front of her face, studying it for a moment. "I don't think it's easy for people to accept mutants, but for those of us who have such drastic physical mutations..." she shrugged. "My family was religious, and I was convinced that I was a demon, especially with eyes like these," she said, pointing to the twin red orbs that seemed to float in a pool of blackness.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"They should have known better, especially then." Kurt said calmly.

COPYCAT
"I don't think I'll ever forgive them for tossing me out," she said bitterly.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"I can understand" he said. "Sometimes it is hardest to forgive those that were closest to us."

COPYCAT
She nodded mutely. Would she ever be able to forgive them? Considering the fact that they had packed her suitcase for her and locked her out, she didn't really think so. And then she'd had to live in the slums for two whole years, barely able to rent a crappy apartment and eat at the same time.
"Well, I think I'm going to go inside and get something to eat," she said, standing up and brushing the grass off her jeans. "Do the two of you wish to come?" She asked, her tail curling around her calf nervously.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He shook his head at her and smiled. "Thank you" he said. "but I already had some lunch earlier."

AQUA
"Actually, I'd love to," Emily said. "Even if just for tea."

COPYCAT
"Okay," she said, smiling. "I'll see you later, Kurt." With a wave, she headed back up to the mansion with Emily.

[Nightcrawler]

WANDA
Wanda wanted to get a little fresh air. She was feeling a lot better, and maybe a little sunshine and air would do her good. Pietro was napping in their room; she'd left him to sleep. It wouldn't be fair to him to wake him up just to tell him she'd be walking around on the grounds. She could handle herself.
Underneath the tree she saw a blue man, lounging. How interesting. She made her way over, and gave him a polite smile. "May I sit with you?" she asked, pushing her long dark curls behind her ears.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He had been lost in his own, lazy thoughts, looking across the grounds. When he heard a voice, he looked up and saw a woman stand a few steps away from him. He tried to remember her but decided the face did not look familiar.
He nodded. "Natürlich." he said. "I´ve not seen you here before." he said. "I am Kurt Wagner. Or Nightcrawler if you prefer."

WANDA
"Sie sprechen Deutsch?" She asked curiously, tilting her head to look at him. "My name is Wanda, it is a pleasure to meet you, Kurt."
So he spoke German? His accent was heavy, as if he'd lived his entire life there and only recently found his way to Uncle's. After years of living in the States, her own was not really noticeable.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He looked at her in surprise. There was hardly ever anybody who not only recognised his accent but also spoke his language or at least partly so. "Ja." he said astonished. "I grew up in Germany. Did you live there as well?"

WANDA
"For a time, yes," she said, nodding. "May I sit with you?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
He nodded. "Please do." he said with a friendly smile. When she had sat down on the grass, he gave her a curious sidewards look. "Are you a teacher here?" he asked.

WANDA
For what seemed like the first time in a long time, she smiled. "No, I don't teach here. I am staying here with my brother until the commotion in Europe dies down."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"I didn´t know there were troubles in Europe, too." he said, his smile faltering. "we have something in common then. I came here because I felt there was too much hatred against people like us outside. Living in place where people look at you with daggers in their eyes is no good place to live."

WANDA
"Unfortunately, after what Magneto did at Alcatraz island, everywhere has been the same," she said quietly. "And while my mutation is not visible, I have never hidden what I am. And for that, all of Europe has been hostile towards my brother and I. It's not a way to live at all."
And it wasn't. She could only imagine what he must go through, with such a visible mutation. How could he walk into a shop without being treated with fear and hatred? She supposed this was why she needed to believe in Uncle's dream, now more than ever.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He nodded. It was a good thing not to hide who or what one was. This, however had never been a real option to him although, with a little effort he could slightly alter the colour of his skin. No effort however, despite a trench coat maybe could hide his tail and his pointed hears and three fingered hands were another story. It was difficult to find a disguise that would keep up for more than a closer look. He had found other ways to hide.
"Your brother has a... physical mutation then?" he asked sympathising. It was not easy for those as obviously a mutant as him.

WANDA
"No, he's just... too fast," she said, smiling. "You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get him to slow things down."
She looked closer; he had these markings along his face. "What are these?" She asked, reaching out, her finger almost close enough to stroke his chin.

NIGHTCRAWLER
When she asked him, it was almost like a flash back, a deja vu. The last time someone had asked him this, he had been in the abandoned church back in Boston, where Storm and Jean Grey had found him. He unconsciously lifted a three fingered hand as if to make sure the lines were still there. "They are...angelic symbols" he said.

WANDA
"They are... beautiful," she said finally. "And you did them all yourself?" There were so many... it must have taken a long time to do them all.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Dankeschön" he said, lowering his gaze, feeling slightly abashed. It was a strange world really, where some would call him some unholy thing and others see things about them as being beautiful. Then he nodded. "Yes." he said. "I did them on my own."

WANDA
"I'm sorry if I embarrassed you," she apologized. It was obvious that he wasn't used to compliments; how often was he around those who understood him long enough to pay him one?
"Is that part of your mutation?" She asked curiously.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"You don´t need to feel sorry." he said. "It´s just not something people say every day." He looked at her. "You mean the symbols?" he asked. "No they are not a part of my mutation. The skin colour is but I made the symbols. They are symbols of faith."

WANDA
"No, I meant your ability to do them," she said. "You certainly have a possibility in tattoos," she said, giving him a small smile.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Oh." he said, smiling as well. "No I did them, it has nothing to do with my mutation." He wasn´t sure how she would react on this. Most people reacted with revulsion or a strange mixture of show, surprise and pity. He could then almost read in their minds what they were thinking about him: how cruel has life been with him if he did such a thing to himself?

WANDA
She nodded once in understanding. "It takes a strong person to be able to do something like this," she remarked. "I don't think I'd have the courage to."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"It has ... nothing to do with courage really" he said, not really sure how to best explain this. "it is more of a spiritual thing. It´s not the pain that matters. And there is pain worse than this." He wondered why she would say such a thing. She seemed like a strong, independent woman.

WANDA
"There is pain worse than that, it's momentary. There's pain that lasts for years," she said, nodding. "What I meant was that I don't think I'd have the courage to walk around outside with angelic symbols covering my arms and face," she explained.

NIGHTCRAWLER
It seemed he had misunderstood her. "The first thing people see about me is my blue skin.. or my ears or the tail. Few look at me long enough or let close enough to notice the symbols." he tried to sound casual and wondered if she was talking from experience of ´pain that lasts for years´

WANDA
"And that's a shame," she told him. "It's another thing that makes you unique." She smiled. Unique was probably an understatement, but he was such an interesting and nice person... people should be more curious than afraid.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He smiled back. She was so friendly, it was good to have someone like her around. He wasn´t even used to that much friendliness.
"Everybody is unique in an own way." he said. "just sometimes people are too blind and afraid to see it." He looked at her, wondering. "What is it you can do?" he asked, hoping not to sound blunt.

WANDA
"I... manipulate chaos," she said finally. "I guess you can stick with calling it magic, as well."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Magic is a good thing." he said with a smile. "The world needs more magic these days."

WANDA
She shrugged. "Basically I alter the probabilities of things, such as making an object do something it normally wouldn't do, even people." She held up her hands, and they glowed a dull red. "I can only do it with something that's in my sight, and I have to concentrate and make a simple gesture to make it work, usually."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"That sounds interesting" he said, trying to figure out how exactly her powers worked. "And very powerful, too."

WANDA
"They take a lot out of me," she admitted. "If I use them for long periods of time I get very tired."
"But what exactly can you do?" She asked. "The only other blue mutant I've ever seen is a sneaky little shapeshifter."
She hoped he wasn't a shapeshifter, as she was probably biased against them forever, thanks to the blue snake. Shuddering, she refused to think about that demon woman and what she was plotting, doing here.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"And I even met two." Kurt said. "blue shape shifters" he added. Was she talking about Mystique? She had always been nice to him, he had no reason to think bad of her and he decided not to ask whether Mystique was the person, Wanda had mentioned.
"I can teleport" he said.

WANDA
“Really?" She asked, eyes widening. "I've never met a teleporter before. How far can you go?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
"It depends on where I am." he said. "I have to see where I want to go, if I don´t it can be dangerous. But when I can see far, I can get far. And I can teleport others, too."

WANDA
She raised an eyebrow. "That's really impressive, Kurt. How far can you go? Say, if you pictured a convenience store a half a mile from here..."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"It would be no problem if I could see the store from where I was standing." he explained. "But trying to teleport there directly... would be a risk. There could be someone standing at the exact point I was getting to. I can go as far as I can see."

WANDA
"That's... amazing," she said finally. "You said you could teleport other people, right? Do they feel disoriented or anything when they teleport with you?"
His powers were so interesting... to defy all laws and do something like that... It was kind of like her altering of probabilities, only 100% guaranteed.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He had teleported the professor, and Rogue... and the children out of their prisons in the underground base at Alkali Lake. They hadn´t seemed to desoriented.
"I don´t know." he said honestly. "But it can´t be anything too serious. Maybe people just feel a little dizzy." He looked at her and saw the curiosity in her eyes. "Do you want to try?" he asked.

WANDA
She nodded, smiling at him. "If you don't mind, yes."

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt nodded. "Sure." he said. "Only I have to hug you because you would get lost on the way if I just touched your shoulder and you accidentally drew away while teleported." He was watching her and felt a little shy about it, hoping she would not take offence.

WANDA
She shook her head; it was fine with her. "I don't mind at all, Kurt. I'd prefer not to get lost in another dimension." She stood up and stretched a little.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Right." he said. "I don´t even know that other dimension myself." He got to his feet and stepped closer to her, closing his arms around her. With his head he motioned towards a tree that was standing about 50 metres away from them. "I´ll take us to that tree." he told her, then, in a puff of black-blueish smoke, they disappeared and with a cracking noise showed up next to the tree an instant later.

WANDA
She looked around, spotting the tree that had been in the distance, right next to them. "Wow, that was incredible." She looked up at him, and realized he was still embracing her. Feeling a faint blush creep into her cheeks, she broke the connection and stepped back half a step.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He noticed her blush and did a step away at the same time she did, almost uttering an apology. Instead he smiled a little. "It´s something to get used to" he said.

WANDA
"Yes, it most definitely is," she agreed. She had only felt a little dizzy for a moment; other than that, she was completely fine.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"So you don´t feel bad then?" he asked. She didn´t look like it, still he preferred to ask.

WANDA
She shook her head. "No, I'm perfectly fine," she said. And she was. The whole experience was...different. It was unlike anything she'd ever done before.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"That´s good to hear." he said and sat down to lean against the tree. "It used to make me all dizzy when it first showed. I would feel all verrückt in my head." he added, seeking for the English expression but not finding it and thus using a word in his mother tongue.

WANDA
"Displaced?" She asked, sitting down beside him. "Or how about 'out of whack'," she suggested. "It's an interesting English expression that means basically the same thing."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Something like it." he said, trying to find the expression which just seemed to be on the tip of his tongue. Then he had it. "Crazy." he said. "That was the word."

WANDA
"How were you 'crazy'?" She asked, frowning in concern. She'd seen crazy, and he wasn't anything of the sort.

NIGHTCRAWLER
He could see her concern and shook his head. "No." he said. "Not crazy in a bad way. More like a feeling of your head... spinning and going all crazy for a moment. Like on a rollercoaster."

[Nightcrawler]

WANDA
"Disoriented," she said, nodding. "And I can imagine you would be. Suddenly being able to teleport across distances? I'd probably get a little ill," she admitted with a small smile.
"So, when did your powers manifest?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
She tried to remember and found that some parts of his past seemed remote. They had done so ever since he had come to the states and found that this country did not keep the promise of tolerance it advertised to the outside world. He had felt no less a stranger here than back at home, or even more so, as although he had been some sort of an exotic atttraction to many zirkus visitors in Germany, he had found acceptance there and people around him who cared.
"It´s difficult to remember." he said. "I think I was 12, maybe 13."

WANDA
"That must have been hard," she said quietly. "But...were you always blue?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt shook his head. "I wasn´t" he said. "I looked like every normal little boy. Only my hair was unusually dark and my eyes had this gleam noone else had." The colour of his skin had changed gradually later and Kurt had come to believe that this had been related to his powers.

WANDA
She gave him a soft smile. "Well, I was always pegged as a mutant, ever since I was little. Nothing much has changed in this world at all."

NIGHTCRAWLER
"No." Kurt agreed. "Some people start to understand, but there are so many that still don´t." He had always tried to understand their hatred, pitied them. They were scared, it was a natural behaviour of people. What was unknown was dangerous.

WANDA
She nodded. "The number of people that don't dwarf the number of people that do," she said softly. And it was a shame, but a hard fact. That had been proven true during she and Pietro's stay in Europe.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt tossed her a glance, wondering if the question that came to his mind was a too personal and insensitive thing to ask, but she seemed kind and therefore he decided he was safe. "Why?" he asked. "What made you feel so much bitterness with the world?" He knew there were many mutants who had experienced hardship from the hands of humans, but everyone of them carried their own little, sad story with them. Something made him interested in hearing hers - if she was willing to share it.


WANDA
She looked at him, then sighed softly, looking down at her hands. "Let's just say that when my brother and I were young, we were whisked away to live with my father, and saying that he mistreated us would be putting it lightly," she said quietly. This was one of the few times she'd ever said anything like that aloud, to someone she didn't know too well. But he seemed sweet and understanding...so she trusted him.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt narrowed his eyes and looked at his feet. There was bitterness in her voice, but sadness, too. He tossed her a sidewards glance. "I´m sorry to hear this." he said. There had been times when he had envied those that had a father... or a mother. He had never known his parents, but maybe Wanda would rather be happy not to know her father from the way she talked about him.

WANDA
She looked up at him, watching until his gaze met hers. "Thank you," she said softly. It meant a lot to her, coming from him. The only people who had ever apologized for the hurt Magneto had personally brought upon them...was Uncle. Because he understood better than anyone. And she thought Kurt understood as well.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt smiled a little and out of an impulse reached for her, softly touching her arm with his blue, three fingered hand. She looked as if she needed comfort and he felt truly sorry for her. "You are welcome." he said.

WANDA
She smiled, feeling his touch on her arm. She didn't jump, or shirk away, as she imagined quite a few people might. But it made her feel...warm, happy. He was so nice, it was a shame people thought too much about his outward appearance. "It's a shame, that people care about outward appearances more than kindness. Because you have such an abundance of it," she remarked.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"It is very kind of you to say this." Kurt replied feeling that his blue skin was just turning a shade darker because of the compliment. He wasn´t used to compliments any more. In a way, he had never really been.

WANDA
"I speak the truth," she said, smiling at him.

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Dankeschön." he said, still blushing, feeling slightly awkward. He wasn´t sure how to react in a situation like this, with someone, a woman and especially one as beautiful as her, being so kind with him. He simply wasn´t used to this.

WANDA
Her smile widened as she blushed slightly, and she put a hand on his arm. "Sie sind willkommen." She hoped he didn't think her too bold to say it, but she liked him. But she hoped she didn't make him uncomfortable.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt mirrored her smile although it came out slightly insecure and shy. But as unusual as a situation of this was to him, he had to admit that he liked her. She was so kind, it was so different to talk to her than it was to others and the number of people who would talk to him was of course limited due to his outer appearance although people here were tolerant. But outside... and Kurt honestly couldn´t remember a woman paying him a compliment. It had to be a long time ago.

WANDA
"Ich würde Ihnen gerne ein Abendessen machen," she said softly, watching his face closely.
"I mean, only if you'd like, you don't have to accept," she said, switching back over to English.

NIGHTCRAWLER
Kurt blinked. Was she actually asking him for a sort of... date or something? He forced his thought into another direction. She was just being nice that was all. And with that, he felt it would be rude to put down her offer without a valid reason. And apart from that, he couldn´t really find one anyways. "Only if I can help with the cooking." he replied after a moment smiling a little. He would feel bad about letting her do it all. This wouldn´t be polite.

WANDA
She smiled wide, glad that he accepted. "If you'd like, that's fine. I was thinking of cooking some sausage and peppers, as well as some potatoes to go with it. Sound good?"

NIGHTCRAWLER
"Sounds very good." Kurt agreed. It felt natural to be around her, he noticed, although her presence still made him feel a little nervous.

WANDA
Standing up, she wiped stray blades of grass off herself. "I'm going to go make it now, would you like to come with me and help?" The sky was beginning to turn the pink of sunset; they'd been outside longer than she'd thought, and a slight grumble in her stomach affirmed that.

NIGHTCRAWLER
