Emily didn't completely expect that her guess would be correct. Guessing things about people wasn't among her talents. Therefore she was surprised at his answer, even if it was one she'd hoped to get.
The next question came while she was still trying to manage that surprise without much gaping. Why did he care? What brought it about? Was it something she did or said? She wasn't sure she had ever heard something like that from somebody, so she couldn't come up with a suitable reaction. "How come?" she asked.

::Her surprise was palpable, and Pietro attributed that to her shyness. He assumed she was unused to being the center of attention, unused to having others interested in her. From what she had told him while building that aquarium, she viewed herself as a sort of shadow. When he was younger, he viewed himself as a blur.:: "You are a good person, Emily. Why shouldn't I?"

"I'm not saying you shouldn't," Emily said. "But..." her confusion was difficult to phrase, and, well, it wouldn't be called confusion for nothing. "I mean... That someone is a good person is a reason enough for you to care about them?"

::Pietro chose not to begin a tangent about his natural suspicion of those around him. This was neither the time nor place for that. He tried another way of phrasing.:: "Can you accept that I enjoy your company?"

"I can, I suppose," Emily said, a telltale bashful smile appearing on her face. "Though it's not always easy for me to accept something without knowing all the details." A technical, scientific way of reasoning, of picking things apart and analyzing everything that she was most used to wouldn't allow it too quickly.

::Pietro was the same way, although he was more often than not reluctant to give details about himself, his emotions. With nobody but Wanda. Yet Emily had asked, and he would answer.:: "I do not let many close to me. I care about those whom I do. Can you accept that?"

That simple explanation gave her a glimpse of structure behind his reasons, and she could deal with it easier now. "Yes," she replied.

"Good," ::Pietro repeated, glad that they had come to an understanding. When the train called for the Chappaqua stop, he all but grimaced. The only other occupant of their car exited there, a woman dressed in coat that likely cost more than he and Wanda spent on food the last year. Why wasn't he surprised?::

Emily looked into her bag with pastry, taking out another one with vanilla cream. They were just too good to be put off for later. She took a bite from it and glanced out of the window.

::The train began moving again, and they were alone, which let Pietro settle. He briefly considered joining Emily in another pastry. However, he had long ago developed a rhythm with Wanda where he simply did not take twice before she had taken once. Instead he shifted, glanced out the same window. When he had been younger, more care free, he might have suggested they go to a junction between cars. He would jump off, run with the train for a bit, and enter at the next station.::

Emily absently gazed at the hills and forests behind the window. It made her think that she hadn't traveled that much by train when she lived at home; that, in turn, set her thoughts on her family. She decided she would go to Miami just before her birthday and spend a week there - that would probably result in visiting another party and another exhibition with her parents, but she could accept that as a way of payment for visiting home and having some quality time. She thought of her brother and suddenly wondered, if he decided he needed training for his powers, would he end up at Xavier's, too. "Pietro, do you know if there are other schools for mutants like ours?" she asked, turning to look at Pietro again.

::Pietro replied with a single shake of his head. He had no more knowledge of the subject than she did, as he remained out of loyalty and concern for others and family, not for divine purpose in higher education or Uncle's Dream. There were no other groups like the X-Men to his knowledge, not heroes. Perhaps somewhere there was a similar place, but considering the International presence, he was inclined to doubt it.:: "Not that I know of."

"Okay," Emily nodded. "I was just wondering... where others could go - surely not everyone who needs help ends up at the Institute."

::Pietro pondered that for a moment, thought of conversations he had shared with others.:: "Some are self-taught, and I would think some are taken in elsewhere, a home if not a school."

"Would be interesting to have a full overview," Emily pondered. "Do mutants have some sort of a newspaper or another general information source?"
